Report: Kings have talked to 10 teams about Bernier

It’s been almost a year since Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier has asked to be traded but it looks like he may finally get his wish this summer.

ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun reported on TSN’s Insider Trading that the Kings and GM Dean Lombardi have reached out to 10 teams about their 24 year-old backup goaltender to get an idea what the market is. Bernier is still a highly regarded young goalie and with Jonathan Quick locked in as the Kings starter for a long time with his huge contract, it’s only logical that the Kings move him to help themselves in other areas.

What teams are interested? Take a look around the league at those who might be in the market for a young starting goalie to build around. Teams like Calgary or the Islanders jump to mind right away as possibilities as they have immediate needs.

Probably end up with the Flyers

Bernier to Buffalo would be nice. Allowing them to trade Ryan Miller and not trust Matt Hackett or Enroth

    No no, please no.
    Don’t come to Philly

Bernier and Mason could be an excellent, young duo. And although Read is underrated, if he could get us a potential franchise goalie I’d be happy with it. They probably won’t be able to resign Read anyway as Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier will need new deals. It’ll cost more than just Read to get Bernier but if the price is right I hope Homer pulls the trigger. I’ve seen Bernier play a bit and he has elite physical ability. With a little refinement and coaching he could be the answer.

In my opinion as a season ticket holder for the Rochester Americans, David Leggio is better than Hackett and Enroth. Two full seasons of work back that up. Whether it would translate to the NHL is another subject entirely.

Hence the search for a goalie in Buffalo is Miller does go.

Read for Bernier is the most popular one out there. It actually makes sense.

Doesn’t Shero have a commitment to Fleury? Or was that just a smokescreen?

Calgary is NOT trading for Bernier, we’re rebuilding, it’s time to see what’s there in Ramo, Ortio, etc.

  12. live4hockey - Jun 15, 2013 at 3:13 PM

Letang and Fleury for Bernier and Kopitar please.

  13. live4hockey - Jun 15, 2013 at 5:54 PM

…can’t trade a guy if you say you don’t value him. Just sayin…

Minnesota Wild!! We do have some good young goalies in the system. However, a proven player familiar with the players in the Western Con. would be a much safer route to go. Time for Backstrom to take a step back from the starting position. As an experienced, reliable, and consistent goalie you couldn’t ask for a better back-up or “role model” for Bernier than Backy. It could be a great opportunity for both him and the team.
