Discuss: Paille’s OT goal ties Stanley Cup Final

The Chicago Blackhawks stormed out of the gate in the first period of Game 2, but only managed a 1-0 lead. The Boston Bruins’ supporting cast managed to carve out two goals, with Daniel Paille scoring in the first OT to give the B’s a 2-1 win.

The series is now tied 1-1, so let’s discuss this fourth-round feud.

  • The team that manages to win Game 2 of a Stanley Cup Final has won the Cup in eight of the last 10 seasons and 75.3 percent of the time since it shifted to a best-of-seven series in 1939. So … yeah, this was a big win.
  • Boy, did the two teams look tired in the third period and beyond, or what? How large of a factor might fatigue be? Which team could have the advantage in that category?
  • So, with two straight OT games, how many periods do you think this series will accrue in the end?
  • Speaking of OT, 26 postseason contests have entered “extra innings” in 2013.
  • Which goalie is having a better series so far: Tuukka Rask or Corey Crawford?
  • The Blackhawks were a strong road team in the regular season and have managed to carry that over pretty well into the postseason. Can they steal a game or two in Boston?
  • How do you feel about the officiating in this contest and the series so far?
  • Do you expect this to be a long series? Who’s the favorite in your mind now?

Oy vey! What a series! And it is a series. The Bruins have life!

    Go Bs!

    • phillyphanatic77 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:50 PM

They would’ve had life even if they had lost, IMO. Besides the 1st period, where the Hawks put on a clinic, it’s been an even series. Bruins have the workmanlike style and attitude to pull out of an 0-2 hole, but that’s no longer a concern.

      • itsallniceonice - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:29 AM

I completely agree. Look at the Bruins playoff record since Julien took over and tell me that the Bruins wouldn’t have life.

  2. hockeyflow33 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:37 PM

    Wooooooooooooooooo

  3. jcmeyer10 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:39 PM

Bruins were bringing the heat in the OT.

  4. phillyphanatic77 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:43 PM

      Tablet froze… please disregard.

  5. stoopidfool - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:43 PM

The Blackhawks benefitted from the refs tonight

    • devilsarethebest - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:44 PM

You live up to your name quite well.

  6. phillyphanatic77 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:45 PM

These have been the most evenly matched first two games of a Cup final I can remember. Sure the teams take turns having the upper hand but it seems to balance out. Great series… could it go the distance? And how many OT games will there be?

  7. einjzmolf - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:45 PM

that turnover was eerily similar.. i think i saw that same thing to end game 1????

what a goal though! back in it boys!

  8. LampyB - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:48 PM

Good win for the Bruins. Aside from some good chances for Chicago, they were largely outplayed second half. Jagr was yet again a ferocious beast in 3rd and OT.

    Jagr is Wolverine on ice!

    • 19to77 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Truth. They had 19 shots in the first period, but only nine over the next two combined. Then Boston outchanced them something like 10-3 in OT. Chicago came on hard early, but Boston held them to a goal and took back control for the win. Great game by all.

  9. ryanw822 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:52 PM

If Jagr doesnt score the GWG in the series clincher then he should retire because he obviously did something to severely piss off the hockey gods.

Boasting bruins fans and whining hawks fans neither of u won anything yet just saying

    • hockeyflow33 - Jun 15, 2013 at 11:59 PM

Well one of us will win

    • kissmytaintpatriotsrule - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:09 AM

Really?? I think I won the right to make fun of you.. Retard

    • delrmi05 - Jun 16, 2013 at 9:58 AM

Yeah I don’t think being excited for a Bruins win is considered boasting, and I have yet to see a Blackhawks fan whining. Both teams have won a conference championship so that’s strike three for you I guess. Just saying.

    • lordstanley65 - Jun 16, 2013 at 11:20 AM

No punctuation and ending your statement with a phrase used by fifteen year old girls. I don’t think I’m taking you seriously.

  11. gallyhatch - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:02 AM

Huge freakin’ win by the B’s, we should have a series on our hands. . . . .see you on Monday!!!

  12. joeyg88 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:06 AM

Bolig turned the puck over. Please bring back stalberg coach Q!!

    • 2difshoe - Jun 16, 2013 at 11:17 AM

Agree…Bollig gave his best, not good enough. Turnover ended the game.
I would bet Stalberg is back game 3.
He is rested and quite possibly the fastest man on ice, and that may be a difference maker in game 3.

      Respect to the Bruins!
They easily outplayed the Hawks in periods 2,3 and OT.

      Hawk fan

  13. valarmorghuliss - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:07 AM

Good call on Bollig over Stalberg coach Q

  14. hockeytowninhabitant - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:09 AM

Hawks, New Jersey, and St Louis have the worst fans IMO

  15. pastabelly - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:15 AM

I still haven’t gotten over game 1 loss. Winning tonight was more of a relief. There’s not much separating theses two teams. No boasting from this Bs fan. I have too much respect for Chicago.

    • knowfishbluefish - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:19 PM

I (B’s fan) and a lone Hawks fan in the bar last night buying each other drinks. Perfect strangers. I bought the last drink when the B’s finished. We were explaining to non hockey fans here in the south why Hockey is the best sport. I love seeing sportsmanship in the comments too. When it gets ugly all I can think of Keith Magnuson Vs Bobby Orr…

  16. joestemme - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:15 AM

Ugly win. Two exhausted teams – and it showed.

I guess, the hockey gods decreed it should be a tie at this point in the series.

I really think we are looking at 7 games – but, many more than 21 periods!!

  17. bigbadbruins77 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:16 AM

finally D A M N! eff yeah! Back to Boston for the next two games, WOOO!!!

  18. sprtsfan1 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:23 AM

Hawks didn’t deserve that one. They won the first 20 minutes. After that it was all Bruins. Wow, I’m tired already.

  19. jovocop2112 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:29 AM

refs stole a goal from CHI – just like last Boston cup run refs play a large role in them getting a “win” – what a crock of ^%$#

    • kissmytaintpatriotsrule - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Must be a Vancouver fan. Try not to loot anything on your way to bed.

      • lordstanley65 - Jun 16, 2013 at 11:23 AM

Excellent! That’s the laugh I needed this morning!

    • hockeyflow33 - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:04 AM

I guess you can consider it a tradeoff for the goalie interference they failed to call on the first one.

      • razzlejag - Jun 16, 2013 at 4:28 AM

Haha, or try to burn down the kitchen.

  20. sprtsfan1 - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:38 AM

I agree Jovocop, Hawks should have been up 2-0 in the first. That was a goal, but they got their heads bashed in the rest of the game.

    • bruinsyea - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:02 AM

Could have been 1-0 Bruins because the first goal could have been waived off because of interference. Some calls go your way and some don’t…. get over it.

  21. sprtsfan1 - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:19 AM

When you get checked into the goalie it’s not interference. Not hanging on anything. I don’t think the Hawks should have won. Bruins played better, but that should have been a goal and the Hawks should have been up 2-0. Get over yourself.

    • bruinsyea - Jun 16, 2013 at 1:32 AM

      COULD HAVE

    • hockeyflow33 - Jun 16, 2013 at 3:05 AM

Not true, the player who was checked has the onus to avoid contact with the goalie.
The goal could also be waived off with no penalty for goalie interference; it also could have been waived with a penalty going against the Bruins for interference.

You should really learn the rules before sounding so ignorant.

  22. thebigtim2012 - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:02 AM

If these games keep going to ot I’m gonna burn a ton of sick days. Good thing I own the company

  23. ilikejay - Jun 16, 2013 at 7:30 AM

I am getting really tired of arrogant wings fans thumbing the noses at Chicago fans. I like the wings team, hate the wings fans! Hawks are in, wings out, get over it and get lost. Let us enjoy ourselves finally.

  24. knowfishbluefish - Jun 16, 2013 at 12:28 PM

My Hawks jersey has “3″, “MAGNUSON”.
Thanks for the you tube post!
So awesome to see these two teams in the cup!
