Del Zotto has sports-hernia surgery

Jun 13, 2013, 3:00 PM EST

Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto has undergone successful surgery to repair a sports hernia, the club announced today.

The recovery period is expected to be four weeks, leaving more than enough time to be ready for training camp.

Del Zotto seemed to be in good spirits after the operation:

The 22-year-old had three goals and 18 assists in 41 games this season. His 21-point total was tops among Ranger d-men; however, he had just two points in 12 postseason games, in large part due to the struggles of the power play.

As a Bruins fan I usually notice him when they play the Rangers as he is out there making things happen. Think he is a pretty good d-man, but was wondering what had happened to him B’s-Rangers series. This has to be the reason.

Hagelin, Callahan, and now Del Zotto. All three played hurt. Add to it the guys who were too hurt to play: Staal, Clowe, Powe, and (later) Stralman. This was a banged up team.
