Blackhawks rave about Corey Crawford

Jun 13, 2013, 1:41 AM EDT

The Boston Bruins put together some highlight reel-quality opportunities in two-plus overtime periods against the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 1 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final, but Corey Crawford was up to the task.

The 28-year-old netminder stopped 51 out of 54 shots in what was close to two games worth of play, with the Bruins getting chances like these:

Such strong play (and dangerous moments) prompted some serious praise from head coach Joel Quenneville.

“Crowe was great. He kept us in there,” Quenneville said. “He made several all-alone plays and saves. Had some odd-man breaks, some dangerous looks. He was great.”

Jonathan Toews also gushed about his goalie to Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times.

“You can’t even put that into words,” Toews said. “He made some unbelievable saves.”

Even so, Crawford received the occasional lucky break, as Bruins forward Kaspars Daugavins explained to Sportsnet’s Ian Mendes.

“I had him beat, but while I was shooting I got tripped and my hands got tied up,” Daugavins said.
