Video: Patrick Kane is the face of USA Hockey

Jun 12, 2013, 10:05 PM EDT

While there are some other great players wearing the red-white-and-blue, many believe that Patrick Kane is the “face” of this generation of American hockey.

(Inevitable joke: as long as he’s not the hair and sideburns …)

Kane came up huge by scoring a hat trick to eliminate the Los Angeles Kings in the third round, which seems like business as usual for the big-game player. Still, the 24-year-old believes that he’s matured since making big plays (and generating big controversy) in earlier in his career.

The video below captures his growing excitement regarding playing for the U.S. Olympic team and his growth in general:

There is a lot of others that could be the face, and all of them have shown better judgement. I don’t care if he says he’s changed, what does it say about hockey in America if the face of USA hockey is a walking drunk, has beat up a cab driver, and has been accused of fighting girls, and even attempting to rape them. He is a great player, but at this point he doesn’t deserve to be the face quite yet. I would rather see a guy like Parise be the face of USA Hockey

I agree that Praise is a much better choice & if you want to go with a goalie J. Quick is also a better choice. Neither have ever had cab fare issues like Kane.

“This is the face of USA Hockey… passed out on top of the bar.”

I guess if America wants to front him as “their guy,” it’s their call. Then again, Captain Whines About Everything is apparently the face of Canadian hockey, and Alex Ovechkin is the face of hockey in Russia. Flash and fame appear to matter more than class and maturity for all of us. I’m not sure anyone should feel proud of that.
