Dupuis says Pens offense will come around

Just how flat is the Pittsburgh offense right now?

Well, the Penguins scored 13 goals in their first three games of the Islanders series, and nine in the first three games of the Ottawa series.

Through three games against Boston, they have 110 shots on net.

And just two goals to show for it.

It’s an alarming lack of production, but one that will soon change, according to winger Pascal Dupuis.

“Eventually they’ll go in,” Dupuis said on Thursday. “We know that with the firepower that we have on our team.

“Eventually, they will go in.”

Dupuis came into the Boston series tied for the team and NHL goalscoring lead, with seven, but has failed to make much of an impact offensively through the first three games.

He registered his first and only point on Wednesday — the secondary assist on Chris Kunitz‘s marker — and is still lumped in with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal and Jarome Iginla as Pittsburgh forwards that have yet to find the back of the net against Boston.

That said, one of the two Penguins to actually score a goal this series — Brandon Sutter — says he sees signs that the Pens are ready to break out on offense.

“I think we need to stay positive with what we did [in Game 3] offensively and build on that,” he explained. “I don’t think we’re concerned about not being able to score, at least with the way we played last night and the offensive opportunities we created.

“We’ve got to find a way to get a few in obviously, but by no means are we going to panic about not scoring goals.”

I agree. The Pens offense will come around…in October. (Come on, someone was going to say it.)

Yep…I was going to say it myself. Well played.

The interesting thing now is that this team, that has never shown a lack of heart but definitely has shown a lack of discipline (and lack of ability to coach on the fly), is now in a corner where they can go either way. As a Pens fan I hate the whole their in, but I want to see how they react. If I was Shero I would be watching for any guy that hangs his head even ONCE throughout this game.

I’d just like to see a few goals.

As a huge-hearted pens fan I only hope that its not too late. Boston is a solid gifted team that is one step away from playing in the confetti game. I have never watched a team like boston out coach, out hustle and humiliate an explosive offensive team like the pens. The penguins have one option and its very clear , Win 4 in a row or go home. GO PENS!!!!

“We’ve got to find a way to get a few in obviously, but by no means are we going to panic about not scoring goals.”

Mr Sutter, you have possibly 60 minutes left of on-ice playing time this season, when would a good time be to start to be concerned?

    • jcmeyer10 - Jun 6, 2013 at 10:13 PM

10 minutes left in your season is when the Bruins started caring… haha

Game 30? I didn’t know they played their 30th game last night…I thought it was game 3. Go Pens…they can either go home as a winner or go home as a loser after tomorrow night.

flyers came back to beat the bruins from 3 down. bruin fans getting cocky.

      • jpelle82 - Jun 7, 2013 at 10:08 AM

yeah the pens arent winning 4 in a row against THIS bruins team. i think its 176 – 3 when leading 3-0 in the series. its just not gonna happen, the fans being cocky has nothing to do with the play on the ice.

This Pen team is done and will be totally dismantled next year Contracts not goals will see to that poor job by top to bottom They will buy Cindy some new toys He and Mario will Lament the refs over the summer……Dopee and Malcontent will help wonder how the team will pay Fluffy the goalie? They are fortunate they have the 41 year old back up. Goals are the least of this teams troubles
