USA Hockey announced its list of invitees for the National Junior Evaluation Camp — to be held in Lake Placid, N.Y., this August — and the roster has a decidedly NHL feel.

New Jersey Devils forward Stefan Matteau headlines the list, and is joined by two other first-round picks from the 2012 NHL Entry Draft: Brady Skeji (Rangers, 28th overall) and Henrik Samuelsson (Coyotes, 27th overall).

All told, there are 17 NHL draftees attending camp.

The US will return two players from the gold medal-winning side at the 2013 tournament — Riley Barber and Patrick Seiloff — and be coached by University of Minnesota bench boss Don Lucia, who takes over for newly-appointed Nashville Predators assistant coach Phil Housley.

Matteau, along with Samulesson and Skeji, failed to make the final cut for the ’13 American team.

Here’s the full camp roster, minus goalies:

Devils confirm Matteau released by junior team

Matteau’s junior team dismissal ‘unfair,’ says father

I thought the Devils released Matteau because of a temper tantrum or something

    • hockey412 - Jun 6, 2013 at 1:30 PM

(I do realize that’s not the point of the article)

      • jcrispen - Jun 7, 2013 at 11:20 AM

Should also realize that’s not the case. The coach treated him like crap, because he’d played in the NHL and felt he needed to make an example out of him. After harassing Matteau all game long, he finally benched him and then told him to go home. Matteau then chose to ride with the fan bus, instead of with the team. Mostly because he wasn’t welcome. I’m sure you can find the article where his dad (the assistant coach of the team) explained what happened.

That makes sense to me, I hadn’t heard any of it except that he was released because he was upset and he wouldn’t ride with the team. It is strange that his dad is an Asst. Coach and that happened.

Thought he was released from just his Junior team.

With this roster, don’t see them having a chance at winning anything.
