Crosby on Game 2: ‘Terrible. There’s no other way to describe it’

Jun 3, 2013, 11:17 PM EDT

Sidney Crosby didn’t beat around the bush describing how he felt about a 6-1 shellacking in Game 2 on Monday, as the Sporting News’ Sean Gentille reports.

“Tonight was terrible,” Crosby said. “There’s no other way to describe it.”

The same could probably be said for his individual play, as this video and post shows.

The post-game discussions might be all about which goalie the team will decide to start in Game 3, but just about everyone – including the Pittsburgh Penguins’ famous captain – needs to play much better or this will be a short third-round series against the Boston Bruins.

Oh, I don’t know, Sid, “Magical,” “Epic” and “Joyous” all come to mind too.

  2. amityvillefun - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:19 PM

Arrogance is punished by the Hockey Gods.

    Be humble. Like Bergeron.

    • odj810 - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:59 PM

i think the bruins are a pretty humble hockey club. The fans however are going to be a different story altogether.

      • amityvillefun - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:25 AM

Wowza, after viewing all the blow out posts by the Pens fans over the last few weeks, the Pens fans really don’t have anything to point fingers over in that regard. A case of “being able to dish it out but not able to take it” perhaps?

Hey, we’re only kidding and enjoying a win. It’s not like we’re making jokes about bombs or anything lame like that. Right?

Yeah, we got some idiots here in Boston, too. No worries. Most of us are good fans for the most part and actually are knowledgeable of the sport.

      • hockeyflow33 - Jun 4, 2013 at 1:41 AM

As we know, fans of the Pennsylvania teams are nothing but pure class

      • odj810 - Jun 8, 2013 at 1:37 PM

I am a bruins fan so i think amityville and hockey flow were a tid bit confused

  3. hsaxjeff - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:21 PM

Pretty sure it was game 2 not 3

    • airpizz6 - Jun 4, 2013 at 2:45 PM

Personally I am still waiting for Game 1. Can’t play a game when only one team is on the ice.

  4. alwaysgame7 - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:22 PM

Crosby on game 3 eh? Was unaware that was played

    • hsaxjeff - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:24 PM

my idea exact lol. they changed the headline but not the URL at the top of the screen

    • amityvillefun - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:42 PM

      He is pre-whining about it.

    • whatdapuck - Jun 4, 2013 at 5:24 AM

This is the same author that said “back when the bruins won the 2013 Stanley Cup” just 2 days ago too.

Way to earn that paycheck, O’Brien! How are you STILL not doublechecking your posts??? Man, I proofread my damn text messages.. how bout a little professionalism?

  5. nightfireop - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:24 PM

you know what, as much as i don’t want to see the pens winning this series, however i really don’t want to see jeremy jacobs win another stanley cup. his cut-throat tactics nearly took this season away from us, from then on, as long as jacobs owns the bruins i vowed to always boo them.

    • kaylaray93 - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:26 AM

Trust me, we boo him here in Boston too.

      • nightfireop - Jun 4, 2013 at 2:46 AM

just booing him is not going to be enough. look at what he’s doing to you guys….he’s the stereotypical 1%er who doesn’t care about his employees (the player), don’t care about you guys the customers, just the $$ in our pocket.

he’ll take the boo and STILL turns us all upside down for our money.

    • whatdapuck - Jun 4, 2013 at 5:42 AM

As a Bruins fan I honestly apologize, I’m ashamed to have him associated with this franchise. This clown has cost us Cups in the past with his nonsense… he nickel and dimed those Neely/Bourque/Oates teams and then had the nerve to mock Cam for not winning a Cup during his speech at the 2011 parade. Youtube it, I’m not even kidding.

We all HATE him more than you ever could. He’s the worst owner in the league, but please don’t ask us to suffer more than we already have on his behalf.

    • pastabelly - Jun 4, 2013 at 8:44 AM

Jeremy Jacobs is not a good guy. He’s not a good owner, and he’s not even good for the league. Nobody really considers the Cup as Jacobs’. From above Claude, there are good guys like Cam Neely and Peter Chiarelli. The team does things the right way. When I buy my season ticket plan, I just try not to think about Jacobs and like to think my hard earned money is going to guys like Patrice Bergeron. He’s the heart and soul of the Bruins.

  6. esracerx46 - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:24 PM

Perhaps he should put the guard back on…yep ilhes been bad BC of the guard.

  7. nunan - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Let’s talk more about the Pens…they are a commanding 0-2 hole to the Bruins, after-all.

  8. pepper2011 - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:30 PM

so, this was the dreaded “whammy”…

    • drone501 - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:41 PM

whammy is on a sabbatical. he will be back when the series is tied at two.

      • whammy71 - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:57 PM

Nothing to see here. Mario is simply helping the NHL HRR by ensuring the Pens don’t sweep the Bs. He wants to maximize the contributions to the players’ pension fund by generating more TV revenue.

Parade is still all set…mark my words.

  9. 19to77 - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:34 PM

The writing was on the wall by the end of the first period. The rest was academic. The Pens never looked like they had a chance of coming back in this game.

The Bruins have dragged them from Cup favourites to desperate underdogs in less than two games. Oh the times, they are a-changin’…

  10. govtminion - Jun 3, 2013 at 11:51 PM

Hard to argue too much with Sid. That was just a bad game by the Penguins, all around. Boston played great, but… man, what an ugly performance by the home team.

  11. barkar942 - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:07 AM

Where is old BeerCanArmy /Malkinator/ PittsburghSizeQueenWeenie Envy boy now?

    • theskinsman - Jun 4, 2013 at 4:28 AM

He’s trying to figure out how the ‘Pens in five’ crew can stop the tears long enough to type.

  12. broadstreetbeatdown - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:09 AM

The only parade Whammy 71 should be planning is the Yinzer gay Pride Parade.

    • Habib Marwan - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:15 AM

      the flyers played awesome tonight!

      • broadstreetbeatdown - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:27 AM

Better than the Hens played Chucky Lohan.

    • Habib Marwan - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:16 AM

imagine how hard it must be for a flyers fan to have to sit through these EC finals and have to choose one team they would normally hate all year long to win this series… lol… bitter much?

      • broadstreetbeatdown - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:28 AM

Crosby needs to go change his panties. Give him a hand Chucky.

  13. betrayedbylife - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:13 AM

i’m not going to jump to conclusions, i just hope things continue this way so that every hockey journalist is forced to eat their words. nearly everyone backed the bruins into the corner and wrote them off and they came out shooting and hitting. even if they lose they can be proud of these first two games.

  14. 950003cups - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:18 AM

I hate star stacked teams like Pens and Heat. So, it pains me to say, the Bruins will take a 3-0 lead, but the series will go to seven games. A Pens victory? It’s the only thing they’re missing on their résumé.

    • 2difshoe - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:32 AM

You may have inadvertently eaten lead based paint chips as a child.
This series is over in 4….Pens are mentally defeated after this debacle.

    • 2difshoe - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:32 AM

i applaud you for using the word debacle!

  15. tikkanen10 - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:18 AM

The Rangers loss to the Bruins doesn’t look so bad now, eh Slats? One has to question whether John Tortorella was fired too soon? The Rangers have won only 5 playoff rounds in the last fifteen years, with three of those coming in the past two years under Torts.

  16. Habib Marwan - Jun 4, 2013 at 12:20 AM

I mean after all I did say the series would go 6 or 7 games…. ***(shrugs shoulders and chuckles)***

  17. wisdomnfl - Jun 4, 2013 at 1:35 AM

Okay Bruins fans I’ve got nothing. Congrats you guys are on your way to the finals.

  18. bobhpine - Jun 4, 2013 at 1:50 AM

Class! Everybody needs to be classy! Hockey is a classy sport.

Yeah. You idiots call each other gay on the Internet and then deign to talk class? Too funny.

    Actually, too sad.

  19. thedavesiknowiknow - Jun 4, 2013 at 4:12 AM

I dislike Crosby and wish to register my opinion by insinuating he has effeminate qualities.

    • 22lakings22 - Jun 4, 2013 at 3:34 PM

      LOL! Now THAT was funny!

  20. buffalomafia - Jun 4, 2013 at 5:10 AM

Hey Cynthia Crosby! Get your Wonder Woman bracelets off & quit crying! Your makeup is starting to run! Waaaaah!

    • coopjr - Jun 4, 2013 at 4:32 PM

Wonder Woman had an invisible plane where as Crosby has just played like an invisible man.

  21. matthews4 - Jun 4, 2013 at 6:09 AM

Yeah like arguing about Crosby not being a Crybaby, openly mocking someone and then disappearing after Crosby acts like a 3 year old. I’m sure you remember last year. Then not even sacking up to admit your wrong after treating someone-like the village idiot. That kind of class bobhpine? Please enough with the moral high ground from the arrogant nation. David 2 Goliath 0 !!!

  22. whatdapuck - Jun 4, 2013 at 6:21 AM

This series is NOT over yet. A team as stacked as Pittsburgh backed into a corner and fighting to regain selfrespect could be dangerous. That’s a high powered offense and we haven’t even seen them get it going yet.

The goaltendings been terrible obviously. Fleury looked more shaken then Vokoun, IMO. But the biggest concern should be with how AWFUL that defense has been. It’s a joke that Letang’s a Norris finalist and Chara isn’t. Their forwards aren’t even feigning effort defensively. This needs to be addressed if they’re gonna try to turn this series around.

I’m a Bruins fan, I’m feeling damn good right now BUT I will NOT count this Penguins team out. Made that mistake before.

  23. illadelphiasphinest - Jun 4, 2013 at 6:32 AM

Wheres all the Pens fans at to make exusses just like Crosby?

  24. tlndma - Jun 4, 2013 at 7:08 AM

The Bruins are playing well. They are showing Pittsburgh what team defense looks like. Pittsburgh on the other hand is playing like it’s an all star game. Or a thursday night beer league. Their forwards are repeatedly getting caught in the Boston zone and there is very little back pressure.
I don’t think this series is over. I have too much respect for Pittsburgh’s talent. But, if they don’t tighten up defensively, it will be over quickly. They cannot expose their goaltending to the kind of chances Boston is getting.

  25. jcmeyer10 - Jun 4, 2013 at 7:24 AM

Pretty sure when you are trying to figure out what goalie to start in game 3 of the preseas…wait this the Eastern Conference Finals? Yah, that’s not good.

  26. poonerman - Jun 4, 2013 at 7:35 AM

    Penguins eating crow. Cannibalism?

  27. valoisjoeybfeld69 - Jun 4, 2013 at 7:49 AM

What an abysmal performance by Crosby and the rest of the Pens, including Bylsma who is completely out coached by coach J from the opening office to the final whistle. Crosby spent the game flopping on the ice like a fish out of water. Pathetic play by the leader. The Bs are playing excellent D in the neutral and D zones. Bruins will continue to have it their as long as coach J can keep the same line march ups. These guys are just on their game big time whereas the Pens are looking for theirs.

  28. davidsmj22 - Jun 4, 2013 at 9:00 AM

Today’s “Crosby opinion of the day” brought to you by Kleenex. Because if you need to cry, remember the pros choose Kleenex!

  29. hounds2013 - Jun 4, 2013 at 9:02 AM

The Pens have tee times set up for Saturday at Nevillewood. Sweep ’em, Bruins!

  30. jaybaileys - Jun 4, 2013 at 9:23 AM

Im not gonna make excuses for the Pens they friggin sucked last night. They are being outcoached and outplayed at every level. I don’t think Sid is making any either seemed pretty somber after the woodshed beating last night. He was horrible too, so we’ll see if he has any heart like Chicago’s Captain after they got shellacked. This could be a great moment for Sid by showing some leadership and getting his team back into it. Boston is riding high and making them look bad no two ways about it. You do have to win 4 though and they did blow a 3-0 lead a few years ago.

  31. myroncopesflask - Jun 4, 2013 at 9:25 AM

Time for me to eat crow once again. Guess it was foolish of me to use the beat down of the Sens as a measuring stick for the Pens. Normally I would jump all over Bylsma but these 1st games fall on Malkin, Crosby, and Letangs shoulders. These three can’t get out of there own way and it seems as if they are trying to see who could be more careless with the puck. I could not believe my eyes on the power play. The last time I have seen 5 players look that confused on the ice since the 8 and under team I coach had their 1st practice. This series is not over until these these two teams line up to shake hands but the 3 big dogs need to wake up or that hand shake line will happen by week’s end…1975

  32. habssuck - Jun 4, 2013 at 9:27 AM

I also do not remember when the B’s offense looked THAT crisp!

  33. whatdapuck - Jun 4, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Just wanted to give kudos to the Pens fans that had the guts to even click this thread and actually critique their team. That fanbase has a LOT of bad eggs no doubt but Pittsburgh’s a top notch sports town and an underrated city as a whole.

I initially thought it was gonna be like New Jersey.. dirty, smokestacks, dreary and the SMELL. Not even close. First rate town.. wicked clean, no foul odors and very friendly people. I’d recommend it.

    • jpelle82 - Jun 4, 2013 at 10:36 AM

if you’re a baseball fan, you should definitely come see your team play in PNC. great stadium and you cant beat the price of admission. the pirates are even competitive at home these days so it makes for a good game to go see as well. summer nights and the south side bars are good, worth the weekend trip.

      • whatdapuck - Jun 4, 2013 at 11:05 AM

Actually went to PNC while I was there, didn’t see a game but was able to walk around the park. Absolutely GORGEOUS park.. you can look right across the river at the skyline while your waiting in line for a hotdog which is an awesome touch. You got Heinz field next door, great vibe, great location and not a bad seat in the place.

I’d still list Camden Yards as the best ballpark in the league but PNC is right on it’s heels as my #2. A crime that they don’t have better ownership. One of the cooler franchises in the league and Pitt’s definitely a baseball town but, man, they’ve really been put to the test by that ownership over the years. That city deserves better.

  35. joshuaseprodi - Jun 4, 2013 at 4:30 PM

I’ve been a Pens fan since I was a kid, and remember Super Mario’s days with joy. So many times when the Pens lose the comment I hear most from other fans is “the pens beat themselves.” Sometimes this is true. To Boston fans today I’ll say this: great job, for the past two games you’ve beaten us fair and square. People don’t understand, I think, that in the playoffs skill doesn’t win it always. Usually the team that is the hungriest wins. That’s not to say that the Bruins aren’t skilled: they’ve proved they are, but the pens are playing like they think they deserve the cup, while the bruins are playing to win the cup, if you catch my point. I don’t mean to turn this rivalry into a mutual appreciation society, as there is a lot of hockey still to play. What I do want to say is that I’m a Hockey Fan first, a Pens Fan second, and an Eastern Conference Fan (well…except for the Flyers) third. If the Bruins win this series, while I’m hoping they don’t, I will say that they won because they were a better team this year, not because of bad calls, dirty play, or any other crap excuse I see on these comment sections. If they win, I will gladly cheer for them against the west in the cup finals. I hope you will do the same for us.

    -A Proud Pens Fan
