Video: Rob Scuderi hip checks Patrick Sharp

Jun 2, 2013, 10:33 PM EDT

One well-worn meme is to refer to just about anything Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp does as “handsome.”

All due respect to Los Angeles Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi, but he probably doesn’t get that treatment quite as often. Still, the hip check he delivered on Sharp in the third period of Sunday’s Game 2 could only be described as gorgeous.

… Well, unless you’re Sharp:

Helluva check. Props to Scuderi for it.

If it’s Matt Cooke that makes that check, there would be 29 fan bases calling it dirty. I like the hit, it’s just an observation.

I’ve always thought Patrick Sharp resembles Tom Cruise

Uh… That was a clip? A gorgeous dirty play I guess?
He bends down and clips him in the knee and shins.

How typical, a sharks fan calling a kings player dirty. Take those teal glasses off

@Brian Burke shouldnt you be helping the gays or something like that?

That is a textbook clip. I commented on the hawks articles and said the attempted knee on doughty was very dirty and so was Shaws slash.

A lot of dirty plays that game.

Sjsharks66 beat me to it…..that was textbook. Great hip check. Plenty of chippy/dirty-ish playoff hockey plays in this game, but this wasn’t one of them. Too bad we don’t see more of these classic hip checks these days.

Did any of you play hockey? That’s a clean hard hip check. NOT a dirty hit at all smh. All these rule changes have all u Sally fans not knowing what real hockey is

The piece!! What a great hit

Scuderi is as a sound a defenseman as there is in the NHL. Loved him when he was with the Pens and wish he never left. Great on PK, good shot blocker, I think he’s the bomb!

Thought the hit was a little low but not a penalty, just a hard playoff hit. The only thing that worries me about hit like this (if it were lower) and Bickells tripping penalty are the collisions on their knees. You never want to see someones career cut short like that. With this one though, looked to me like most of the contact came to Sharps thigh.
