Blackhawks reflect on disallowed goal

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson admitted the obvious to CSNChicago.com’s Tracey Myers: the disallowed would-be 2-1 goal made him angry.

“I went blank,” Hjalmarsson said. “I was so mad.”

Dave Bolland noted how excited the 25-year-old defenseman was by the real 2-1 winner.

“It was kind of funny watching (Hjalmarsson) hopping around like that,” Bolland said.

No doubt, it was a mix of elation and relief. Jonathan Toews said to the Chicago Sun-Times’ Mark Lazerus that they didn’t want to allow the disallowed tally to be an excuse.

“We were obviously pretty [expletive] off that the whistle blew right before that one went in,” Toews said. “But we weren’t going to go away that way.”

The natural reaction might be “it’s easy to say that now,” but the Blackhawks probably don’t care.

Interesting side note: head coach Joel Quenneville said he didn’t seek or receive an explanation for the call, according to the Sporting News’ Jesse Spector.

Here’s another look at that moment:
