May 29, 2013, 8:06 PM EDT

The Chicago Blackhawks are set to host the Detroit Red Wings in Game 7 on Wednesday. Could it get any better?

Well, it doesn’t hurt to have Mike “Doc” Emrick to call the high-stakes game. The venerable announcer made a lengthy appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” to discuss the contest, how he prepares for such a big game and much more. Enjoy:

My dad has a better ability to avoid stating the obvious. ESPN, the worldwide leader in not showing any highlights. ESPN is to sports, as MTV is to music. So happy to see NBC make this big move to covering hockey. I thought the Versus deal was suicide, but I love the expanded coverage and actual interest shown in the sport.

Please, please get rid of Emerick and McGuire and get new announcers. Every other announcer that you have used for “secondary” games is better. What ever happened to Gary Thorne or Steve Levy. They are awesome. But anyone is better than Emerick and McGuire

Doc Emrick is the best there is. You can make the argument he is the best announcer to ever call an NHL game.

I watched it this morning. Real fun segment. Emrick and Patrick are the best at what they do.

I like Emrick, but it’s painful to listen to Patrick pretend to have any knowledge or interest. I don’t know who is worse JT the Brick and Tomm Looney or Dan Patrick. Does NBC have a sports radio division?
