Video: Andrew Shaw goes after Valtteri Filppula

May 29, 2013, 8:42 PM EDT

It’s early in Wednesday’s Game 7 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings, but there’s already some controversy.

Andrew Shaw is likely going to have a target on his back after this incident with Valtteri Filppula:

CSNChicago.com’s Pat Boyle reports that Filppula underwent an X-ray and was seen on crutches, so it’s hard to fathom him coming back tonight, even with the popular “hockey players are tough” refrain in mind.

Update: the CBC’s Cassie Campbell confirms that he won’t return.

Douche bag move hope he gets his ass kicked one game, probably won’t be anyone from Detroit though

The video starts 2 seconds too late…Filp comes at Shaw to ‘rescue’ Zet. And ends up on his butt. Sorry he’s hurt but he got more than he bargained for when he attacked Shaw (who is able 50 lbs lighter, BTW). Watch those two seconds (conveniently left off here) & it’s obvious that it was the right non-call.

Flip weighs 195, Shaw 180. Yep, sounds like 50 lbs.to me. Imbecile.

    Filthy, suspend that clown

Rather phallic move by Shaw at the Wings’ door.

If Torres did that, he would be suspended 101 games.

He shoved him to the ground? What that’s not allowed in hockey? I remember when I was a squirt…

He slew footed him. Designed to injure, just like Bickell said the he is trying to do in his interview about boarding Kronwall. Is Bobby Hull still alive to replace the NHL with a new league? Look it up.

    • arthas1980 - May 29, 2013 at 10:22 PM

Not only did he slew foot him it was way after the damn whistle just what the Blackhawks have been doing all series and not one call on it a bunch of crap.

      • bettmanistheworstever - May 29, 2013 at 10:36 PM

Damn straight. Why is after the whistle crap ever ok or tolerated. Well, super NBC douche Milbury says it is “playoff physicality” that European players don’t know, so I guess that blesses it.

      • blackhawksdynasty - May 30, 2013 at 8:18 AM

That’s what every team does all year long, they have shoving matches after the whistle. Shaw was defending himself from 2 wings on the ice and a dumbass that was still on the bench. Welcome to hockey. My baby monitor is blowing up from you crybabies

    • niobiumh2 - May 30, 2013 at 7:08 AM

so its ok to interfere with the bench door preventing people getting off the ice? only a douche would do that. i hope the kings knock all his teeth out. hate to say this but go KINGS!

      • jeffchadwick - May 30, 2013 at 9:47 AM

I thought about this after the game last night. If the (mostly) harmless Wings could drive the Hawks into this kind of stupor, just think what professional agitators like Dustin Brown are going to do to the collective psyche of the Hawks.

      • wf62 - Jun 1, 2013 at 12:11 PM

Unlike the Wings, who were’nt supposed to make the playoffs, the Kings won’t put up with the spoiled brat “President Trophy” winners antics. Just because Mike Milbury and NBC WANT to put on a Blackhawk “love in” every time one of them manages to tie his skates right, does not automatically make them the 2013 Champs. If the Hawks are so mighty, and the Wings so weak, what took Chicago so long to put them away? Kings in 5

    Rule 52 – Slew-footing
52.1 Slew-footing – Slew-footing is the act of a player or goalkeeper using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent’s feet from under him, or pushes an opponent’s upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent’s feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice.
52.2 Match Penalty – Any player who is guilty of slew-footing shall be assessed a match penalty.

It’s such a cheap move that it can’t be assessed as a Minor — it MUST be a Match penalty! The rule needs to be enforced.
