Video: Penguins’ Neal scores a beauty to complete his first NHL playoff hat trick

May 25, 2013, 12:20 AM EDT

The Pittsburgh Penguins are red hot. So, too, is James Neal.

The Penguins’ forward recorded the hat trick Friday in a 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinal. For the Penguins, it’s off to the conference final, where they will play either the Boston Bruins or New York Rangers.

Neal now has five goals in his last two games. Prior to Game 4 of this series, Neal had gone five games without a goal. The Penguins have scored 13 times in the last two games.

Neal capped off his night with a beautiful toe-drag on Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson, before snapping a wrist shot past Craig Anderson.

    Beautiful work with the stick.

Nice to see Fleury smiling and laughing with Neal at the end of the video. I’ve got a feeling they’re going to need Fleury again if they are going to get as far as they are aiming.

Absolutely right, is really was beautiful!

Not bad for a guy who many consider just a sniper who can’t create offense on his own.

Just another day for THE FRANCHISE & one of our key players

Don’t refer to my Pens as that. You’ve been banned from the sight for all your different names before. Just shut up.

      Let’s Go Pens!

  4. jobotjones - May 25, 2013 at 8:37 AM

The Pens have been referred to as the franchise by more people than just the one guy (I always found his names funny anyway) Also calling them your Pens is a bit low class, they are all of our Pens and they are marching right now.

    Let’s. Go. Pens!

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - May 25, 2013 at 9:17 AM

They’re mine as much as they are yours or anyone else who is a fan of them. I simply don’t think he’s a fan, his names are meant to mock them as well as they’re fans.

And “the franchise” bull was started by jealous haters. That’s about the only thing that’s low class.

    That was a great goal!

  6. drone501 - May 25, 2013 at 9:21 AM

where are all the haters today.

  7. jpelle82 - May 25, 2013 at 9:43 AM

7 pts in 2 games including 5 goals….not bad for a guy who was “struggling” less than a week ago. not expecting these kinda numbers against the b’s though. still impressive

  8. colossal87 - May 25, 2013 at 10:42 AM

Who wulda thought that this article would lead to an argument to who’s the bigger fan. Only broads act like that. Man up and accept the fact that The Franchise is the greatest team in sports history and conclude acting like a teenage brat.

Look im a Pens fans like the rest . But they have 3 cups . Compare that to the original 6 and we are the redheaded step child . Pens are playing well but need to get better to have a change to get 8 more wins . Also compared to the Steelers , Yankees , Celtics etc they are low on the food chain of championships . But lets hope they add to it this year . Time will tell .
