Video: Lundqvist robs golden Lucic opportunity

May 25, 2013, 6:37 PM EDT

It’s one of the simplest observations one can make about playoff hockey, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong: goaltending is often the biggest difference-maker.

Henrik Lundqvist often keeps the New York Rangers in games and wins a few for them, even though his squads haven’t made their way to the Stanley Cup finals yet. He’s proving a tough out for the Boston Bruins; just ask Milan Lucic, who was absolutely robbed on this fantastic chance:

Tough out? They just won the series 3-1. I’ll take Tukka.

It was a tough out in the sense that the post was put up halfway through the game…. The last game is always the hardest to win so…

Actually, if you watch that save in slow motion it wasn’t as great as it looked. Lucic shot the puck right into his glove. After he caught the puck he raised his glove with a flourish giving it the illusion of a great save. It was mostly luck. Don’t get me wrong, I like Lundqvist. But he made a lot of saves that were way more more impressive than that one. It does look good at full speed though.
