Video: Derek Dorsett, Shawn Thornton finally fight

May 25, 2013, 6:21 PM EST

It didn’t take Boston Bruins tough guy Shawn Thornton very long to live up to his claim that he wouldn’t hesitate to drop his gloves in Game 5.

Things have been brewing between New York Rangers PIM machine Derek Dorsett and various Bruins, so Thornton decided to send a message by fighting him 6:49 into Saturday’s contest:

Both players received two-minute misconducts along with their fighting majors, possibly because of the shenanigans after the officials tried to break things up.

I hope Pierre is watching this so he can finally shut up about Dorsett “not looking to go at actual fighters” I swear that’s all he was talking about the first two games.

He might want to avoid fighters. That was embarrassing.

Embarrassing? Not much of a fight more of a grabbing match. Not exactly a great fight by Thornton either, especially the one or two punches as Dorsett was already on the ice.

He was looking to fight Paille before Thorton jumped in.

Gmenfan, yeah it was not much but Thornton had most of the control during the “fight”.

  6. j0ey15 - May 25, 2013 at 8:20 PM

Thornton should’ve had control of the fight he out weighs Dorsett by 25 pounds so I wouldn’t say Dorsett put up an “embarrassing” showing

Not blaming Dorsett for doing his job, but it’s about time somebody shut him up.

  7. titansbro - May 25, 2013 at 8:46 PM

Not a great fight but Thornton did land a nasty uppercut early on.

  8. dropthepuckeh - May 25, 2013 at 9:59 PM

NIce job by Dorsett setting up camp in the penalty box. How many penalties did he take tonight? Bruins fourth line won the series, this clown should’ve been with Richards in the press box.

Why do all the NY Ranger’s players fight like girls? They should all just carry purses to help them duke it out.

Didnt Thorton get KO’d by the Sabres tough guy? Out 10 games with a broken face? He isn’t tough, this fight was weak
