Sharks ‘weren’t very good’ in a Game 5 loss, but ‘maybe that’s a good thing’

They kept it close for a while.

The San Jose Sharks, after fighting back on their home ice to even this best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal, were thoroughly outplayed by the L.A. Kings in Game 5, leading to a 3-0 loss on the road.

The Sharks are now on the brink of elimination.

A victory in Game 6 back in San Jose – by the way, the home team has won every game in this series, so it’s possible – will extend the series.

But the Sharks have to be much better. They gave Kings’ goalie Jonathan Quick a relatively easy night and were eventually worn down by the Kings, who were physical all game.

“Game 5, coming into their building, they were going to have a hard push – we talked about that before the game,” said Sharks coach Todd McLellan, according to NHL.com.

“They came hard right off the bat, but we got through that without being scored on.

“The rest of the night, the other 50 minutes, we weren’t very good. Moving forward, maybe that’s a good thing because we’ve got a lot of things to improve on.”
