Video: Wings’ Abdelkader hacking and whacking at Blackhawks’ Crawford

May 23, 2013, 11:01 PM EST

Jonathan Toews has been frustrated. Patrick Kane has been held in check.

And the Detroit Red Wings aren’t taking it easy on Blackhawks’ goalie Corey Crawford, either. Justin Abdelkader took the puck strong to the net late in the second period of Game 4 on Thursday, before whacking Crawford a few extra times after he had smothered the puck.

This caused a pile-up in front of the Blackhawks net, with Crawford taking exception.

On a much larger scale, the Red Wings have suddenly taken over this series and now have the Presidents’ Trophy winners from the regular season on the brink of elimination in the second round of the post-season, thanks to a 2-0 victory Thursday.

    Hey Hawks fans…

Remember when we beat Anaheim, and you were all excited that you got to play the Wings one last time before they change divisions?

Not to be a stickler here, but you do realize the video is entitled “Blackhawks roughing up Abdelkader” right?

That’s pretty much what happened. Abderkader took an extra jab at the puck and then Bickell went apesh*t and started punching him while he was down. Still, that’s playoff hockey. It’s not supposed to be painless. Great win by the Wings!

Why on earth is Quenville still giving Bickell ice time? The guy’s a loose cannon. Not that I object to him playing Bickell at all…
Abby’s playing play-off hockey. Bickell is playing exactly the way the Wings want him to.

Wow if this doesn’t show a fictional version of reality I don’t know what does. To give the headline hacking and whacking when the video shows it was one swipe trying to knock the puck loose, which happens all the time. That headline makes it sound like he was there just chopping away over and over. Well it is the sports arm of the NBC empire so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised.

What do you expect from NBC? Every Wings game they broadcast is like a game listening to the other teams announcers. Jeez, look at every story on here today about that game. “Blackhawks blah blah blah”, “Blackhawks mediocre goalie confident of comeback, ignores fact that team’s sinking”, etc.

It’s actually sickening to see how much time is spent covering the blackhawks as opposed to providing fair coverage of the series. The best thing the NHL could do is sell the TV rights to a different company next time around.

Nice sensationalist headline. Abdelkader takes one extra reasonable whack (we’ve seen tons of loose pucks from Crawford all series) and he got absolutely raped.

I’ve seen at least a dozen different Hawks (Toews, Keith and other usual suspects) take cheap shots out of anger all series. Yet this makes it as a headline?
