Flyers’ Voracek crashes Ferrari in Czech Republic

May 22, 2013, 11:59 AM EST

Philadelphia forward Jakub Voracek was involved in a car accident in his native Czech Republic, the Flyers organization announced on Wednesday.

“I spoke with Jake this morning,” GM Paul Holmgren said in a statement. “He was involved in a car accident in the Czech Republic. Although his car did suffer damage, there were no injuries.

“Jake is fine.”

News of the accident was first reported by Czech media outlet Sport.cz, which included pictures of the accident site:

Details from the Czech report haven’t been confirmed, but a Google translate says Voracek collided with a lorry/truck and that alcohol wasn’t a factor.

The collision occurred at 11:30 a.m. local time.

If he’d crash the net like he does his car, the Flyers are still in the playoffs

    • packerswin96 - May 22, 2013 at 12:06 PM

Jake was the Flyer’s best player all year, there were many other things wrong with the team than him.

      • 950003cups - May 22, 2013 at 12:12 PM

I’ll bet Holmgren has him carpool to the rink with Bryzgalov

    Time for another new toy.

    • valoisjoeybfeld69 - May 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM

Lol! Wasn’t there a goalie from the Flyers who lost his life in an accident driving a fast car?

      • drewzducks - May 22, 2013 at 1:12 PM

        Pelle Lindbergh

      • valoisjoeybfeld69 - May 22, 2013 at 1:21 PM

        Thank you.

      • packerswin96 - May 22, 2013 at 1:37 PM

        How is that funny?

      • valoisjoeybfeld69 - May 22, 2013 at 2:42 PM

What’s funny is what vipers wrote. “Time to buy a new toy”

      • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 2:52 PM

highly misunderstood comment. putting those 2 separate ideas on 2 separate lines may have been advisable lol

      • valoisjoeybfeld69 - May 22, 2013 at 3:15 PM

ibieiniid, Yeah! Agreed! Something told me as soon as I hit the “Post comment” that I would be miss understood. Nothing funny about accidents and people dying.

      • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 4:42 PM

        “miss understood…” Mike Fisher’s wife?

      • valoisjoeybfeld69 - May 22, 2013 at 5:00 PM

        No. She’s misunderwood. :-)

    …..Putz……..slow down

    • dirt2013 - May 22, 2013 at 12:17 PM

I’ll bet he bought the Ferrari so he could drive below the speed limit. He probably likes the way it corners at low speed.

  4. sjsharks66 - May 22, 2013 at 12:08 PM

Glad there were no injuries. These younger kids need to be safer with these expensive and fast cars they buy.

    • evgeniidadonov - May 22, 2013 at 8:32 PM

100% agreed. They have their whole future ahead of them. The last thing they need to do is get injured or lose their lives over a dumb mistake

  5. tfaltin - May 22, 2013 at 12:12 PM

Impressive car in safety and performance if Jake wasn’t injured in that wreck, it’s nasty looking. Good work Ferrari.

    • JoeAvg - May 22, 2013 at 12:21 PM

      They’re called air bags.

      • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 12:40 PM

you act like people don’t die in cars with airbags….
and just because it has airbags doesn’t mean it’s a safe car. hence, safety ratings on cars.

      • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 1:04 PM

disregard me making the same point twice with different words. I had a heavy lunch, I’m a bit drowsy.

  6. ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 12:16 PM

glad he’s ok. be safe dude. you got another breakout season ahead of you.

    R.I.P. his Ferrari

    • steelpenbucs87 - May 22, 2013 at 12:54 PM

By definition can’t you really have only one breakout season? I think its safe to say he has broken out after last year but just a thought i hadn’t had before…

      • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 12:57 PM

lol honestly, I considered that same point you just made. but I used the words because you can break out and have your best season ever, and then have an even better one the very next season.

plus, I’m a strong believer that one great season (especially a short one) doesn’t prove you broke out as a player.

        to each his own though

      • steelpenbucs87 - May 22, 2013 at 1:01 PM

Nah I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, just a semantics question that I hadn’t ever thought about. I feel like its easier when looking back of the course of a career to say that maybe a couple of seasons were when a player “broke out”. Certainly given the strike shortened season I could see people saying, “Voracek really broke out in the lockout shortened 2013 season and the subsequent 2013-2014 campaign.”

        I’m bored.

      • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 1:08 PM

np np. I’m in a Tuesday lull myself.

      • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 1:09 PM

        wow, and it’s Wednesday.

  7. phillyphanatic77 - May 22, 2013 at 12:44 PM

Phew, when I saw the picture and “Voracek” in the headline I thought it’d be much worse. The totaled vehicle looked a lot like Pelle Lindbergh’s wreck.

  8. valoisjoeybfeld69 - May 22, 2013 at 1:04 PM

Luckily he survided and the Ferrari didn’t. I hope there wasn’t alcohol or other substance. Don’t like to see the boys throw it all away.

  9. govtminion - May 22, 2013 at 1:13 PM

“…in other news, all three hosts of BBC’s popular show Top Gear had simultaneous heart attacks upon finding out about the wreck of a Ferrari in the Czech Republic today…”

    • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 1:20 PM

psh, those dudes drive Bugattis. they prly think of Ferrari like a Chrysler LeBaron.

      • devilsarethebest - May 22, 2013 at 3:10 PM

Those guys only drive those cars on the show. In real life they own Ferraris.

  10. relicwingnut - May 22, 2013 at 1:21 PM

Hey this is the same guy who came back from being Kronwalled…. Do you think a truck could stop a guy like that? I think not! They couldn’t show the picture of the truck because he went straight through it and the truck disintegrated…..

    • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 1:24 PM

lol great point. that was a pretty exceptional Kronwalling as well.

  11. Stiller43 - May 22, 2013 at 1:22 PM

Whats that little cone on the back? Warning people theres a car in the way? Im not sure a 6 inch dull yellow cone does much to help…

    • ibieiniid - May 22, 2013 at 1:25 PM

that’s the next trend in spoilers.

  12. President Charles Logan - May 22, 2013 at 1:30 PM

What is it with these off season car accidents the Flyers get in?? Danny Briere got into a bad one up in Binghamton NY a few years back and now this

    • har21441 - May 22, 2013 at 1:53 PM

You’d steer into oncoming traffic too if you played for that organization.

  13. steelcity333 - May 22, 2013 at 1:43 PM

Glad to hear he’s okay. The car kind of looks like what their season looked like.

  14. hosewater2 - May 22, 2013 at 1:46 PM

    Glad he’s OK.

The Ferrari California just made Edmunds list for Ugliest Ferraris of All Time. http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/features/the-10-ugliest-ferraris-of-all-time.html

Maybe he did it for the insurance money?

  15. thedavesiknowiknow - May 22, 2013 at 4:07 PM

I bet if he bought a dozen Toyota Camrys none of them would be wrapped around a tree……..

  16. letsgopens8771 - May 22, 2013 at 5:02 PM

    Lubomir Visnovsky 2.0

  17. einjzmolf - May 22, 2013 at 5:51 PM

something tells me this wasn’t voracek’s fault.. people drive like mad men over there, and the truck driver was probably gawking at his car. glad he’s OK, the few fylers’ games i saw this year he was always out there making a difference.

  18. benrob99 - May 22, 2013 at 6:12 PM

    Glad he wasn’t hurt.

  19. ironman721 - May 22, 2013 at 8:59 PM

Kind of looks like the flyers season. Just kidding. Glad he is OK!
