Report: Patrick Roy a candidate for Avalanche head coaching job

May 20, 2013, 1:56 AM EST

Hall-of-Fame goalie Patrick Roy is a candidate for the vacant head coaching position with the Colorado Avalanche, according to a report Sunday in The Denver Post.

Here is an excerpt from what Adrian Dater of the Denver Post wrote:

The former Avalanche goaltender and NHL Hall of Famer is considered a rising star in the coaching ranks and was offered Colorado’s head coaching job in 2009 before turning it down. With the job open again, and with fewer personal ties to his job with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Roy could have renewed interest in coming back to Denver.

The Avalanche fired their previous head coach Joe Sacco towards the end of April after finishing the lockout-shortened season with a 16-25-7 record and 39 points, which was only three above the Florida Panthers, the last of 30 teams in the NHL standings.
Roy played seven full seasons with the Avalanche, winning two Stanley Cups in that span.
He won four championships, including two with the Montreal Canadiens.
