Letang, Adams missing from Penguins’ morning skate

May 17, 2013, 11:57 AM EDT

Kris Letang AP

Pittsburgh head coach Dan Bylsma wouldn’t say why defenseman Kris Letang and forward Craig Adams were missing from this morning’s game-day skate.

Per NHL.com, both Letang and Adams practiced yesterday, but it’s not clear if they’ll be in the lineup tonight at the Consol Energy Center for Game 2 of the Penguins’ second-round series with the Ottawa Senators.

To nobody’s surprise, Tomas Vokoun will start in goal for Pittsburgh. The 36-year-old has won all three of his starts since taking over for Marc-Andre Fleury in Game 5 of the Pens’ first-round series versus the Islanders.

Vokoun stopped all but one of the Sens’ 36 shots in Game 1, a 4-1 victory for Pittsburgh.

Wtf!!! WE better have them back tonight!

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - May 17, 2013 at 12:09 PM

      WE better! WE need them.

      • hockeywithdrawal - May 17, 2013 at 12:15 PM

WE are so much better with him in OUR lineup! He helps US immensely!

  2. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 12:11 PM

Who cares about Adams but Letang needs to play… Hopefully he just had a case of the runs and will be in the line up tonight…1975

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - May 17, 2013 at 12:22 PM

Adams may be one of the penguins top 2 penalty killers, a staple on their 4th line, and a locker room leader. I care

    • jpelle82 - May 17, 2013 at 2:26 PM

i care. adams is a staple

  3. sjsharks66 - May 17, 2013 at 12:21 PM

Who cares about Adams? He is one the pens best Penalty killers. You better care if he is not playing. Lol

  4. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 12:29 PM

Oh please… Adams is garbage.. he’s cheap yes but can’t shoot, can’t pass, can’t fight, and he is slow. Would much rather see Bennett in the lineup than Adams.. The Pens have enough PK capable forwards such as Cooke, Duper, Kunitz, and Sutter. I’d prefer a more skilled player that can play 5 on 5 time and score than a one dimensional hump. just my opinion..1975

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - May 17, 2013 at 12:41 PM

I just imagined you saying all that in the biggest yinzer accent possible and that just eliminated all credibility

    • phillyphanatic77 - May 17, 2013 at 1:52 PM

Adams is one of those glue guys that every team needs to make a run. You can’t quantify his production with statistics… he’s about intangibles and being defensively responsible. You guys have enough snipers, you need the grit Adams provides.

      • johnnyd76 - May 17, 2013 at 4:35 PM

Brillant observation phillyphanatic77 – can not underestimate a grinders importance in these playoffs

  5. yougotgirouxed - May 17, 2013 at 12:31 PM

    They’re on their periods

    • JoeAvg - May 17, 2013 at 12:43 PM

Oh, is that why Giroux’s hair is red?

      • JoeAvg - May 17, 2013 at 12:44 PM

Sigh. Fed another troll. Must resist temptation!

      • yougotgirouxed - May 17, 2013 at 1:34 PM

        That doesnt make any sense.

    • fbothharbaughs - May 17, 2013 at 1:12 PM

If one “getsgirouxed”, what exactly happens?

      • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - May 17, 2013 at 1:39 PM

The player views Jagr as a mentor, becomes irrelevant, and makes a bad nhl commercial with Scott Hartnell.

      • fbothharbaughs - May 17, 2013 at 4:22 PM

I thought it meant the player had one good playoff series against a rival, then was annointed the game’s best player by said team’s management & fan base…

    • johnnyd76 - May 17, 2013 at 4:36 PM

      And YOU have NO CLASS

      • johnnyd76 - May 17, 2013 at 4:39 PM

Sorry – the “YOU” was meant for “yougotgirouxed”

  6. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 12:48 PM

Pretty sure the Pens are OK in the leadsership and staple in the locker room dept. With Sid,Morrow,Orpik, and Iginla in the lineup humps like Adams are in the way of progress(Bennett). 1975

  7. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 12:54 PM

In no way shape or form a Yinzer. Huge Pens and Steeler fan but Yinzers are the reason I gave away my season tickets for the Steelers.1975

    • steelpenbucs87 - May 17, 2013 at 1:21 PM

Okay – see this confuses me. You claim to be a ‘huge’ Steelers fan yet you gave away Steelers season tickets? I don’t buy it. You either a) never had tickets in the first place and made it up to prove some sort of misguided point, b) you gave up your tickets for another reason like the hike in prices since the big ketchup bottle opened (which would be completely understandable), or c) you actually did give away your tickets because of what I presume were the yinzers sitting around you, in which case you are without question the most thin-skinned person I have ever heard of.

Anywho – you talk about Adams being a ‘one-dimensional hump’ when the fact of the matter is that the ‘dimension’ you mention is the SOLE reason we emerged from the Isles series – a great penalty kill. Now I do admit we have some guys who can kill penalties, you named a few, but don’t forget that every time you put one of those guys out their to kill penalties for 2 minutes you are robbing them of 5 on 5 ice time with their normal units. Craig Adams does a job and does it well and deserves to be in their. Bennet is going to be a great player and has shown flashes, but he is just as one dimensional at this point in time from an offensive perspective, which is an area where we already have a wealth of talent.

All of this is moot, because all of the Trib guys (who are usually all over this stuff) have said that there was nothing to indicate any sort of injury and could just be a maintenance day.

And for goodness’ sake stop ending everything you right with 1975. You look ridiculous.

  8. blackandyellow71 - May 17, 2013 at 1:18 PM

If you don’t think Craig Adams is a big part of this team, I dont know how you can call yourself a penguins fan. This team is extremely talented and they need his and others grit to keep it all together.
    Craig Muthaf&$kin Adams.

  9. Stiller43 - May 17, 2013 at 1:26 PM

    Steelpensbucs,

    *slow clap*

  10. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 1:50 PM

I gave up my tickets at “the big ketchup bottle” because I’m not a fan of taking my sons to a game in which a bunch of drunken bums that act like clowns because those steeler games are their reason for staying alive. You know the ones that still drink Iron City beer and wear the zebos. I understand how you might judge my fandom because that might be your misguided idea of fandom. I happen to agree with most of the free world that say steeler fans are the most annoying. That has nothing to do with my love of the steelers that just means that I hate the fans. One reason why I like going to Pens games because most of the fans that go to those games are there for the hockey and not the “event”…1975

  11. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 1:52 PM

Do you want me stop ending everything I write in 1975 or do you want me stop ending everything I right in 1975?

  12. 19to77 - May 17, 2013 at 2:00 PM

Wow. These fairweather types have no appreciation for anyone who doesn’t score. There’s more to hockey than a point-per-game scoring clip, buddy, or didn’t you realize teams need good penalty killing too? One would have thought the Flyers humiliating the Pens in the first round last year would have taught you something on the value of a good PK.

Letang seems to be out a lot these days. It’s growing somewhat concerning. Guy’s really young to be as injury-prone as he seems to be. Hope they’re both back tonight! Never like to see a guy miss playoff action.

  13. sjsharks66 - May 17, 2013 at 2:29 PM

You want Bennet to take Adams spot? So you want him on the 4th line? Hate to break it to you, Bennet is not a 4th line grinder.

  14. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 2:57 PM

Bennett is not a 4th line grinder but Morrow is playing like one

  15. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 3:07 PM

Ideal lines in my perfect world.
    Crosby-Duper Iginla
    Malkin-Neal-Kunitz
    Sutter-Cooke-Bennett
    Jokinen-Kennedy-Morrow

    • 19to77 - May 17, 2013 at 4:20 PM

… Kennedy. You’re actually serious, aren’t you? Good God. He’s terrible.

      • steelpenbucs87 - May 17, 2013 at 6:09 PM

In all fairness TK has had some jump in his game which was helpful in the Isles series. Now I think he needs to be back in the press box in favor over Jussi.

  16. benrob99 - May 17, 2013 at 3:17 PM

By your own admitted ( half witted) logic… you are standing in the way of “progress” by having 4 guys who undoubtedly won’t be on the team next season play over Bennett who undoubtedly will be.

If you can’t see the value of what Craig Adams brings to the team… then you simply just don’t know hockey.

  17. myroncopesflask - May 17, 2013 at 3:33 PM

Ok I don’t know hockey. I’m saying that I don’t see a value in craig adams.. his cost is his value in my eyes. Don’t place your misunderstanding of my logic as my point. So do you think there is a better chance of Chris Kunitz and Duper being on the Pens next year or Jerome Iginla? 1975

    • steelpenbucs87 - May 17, 2013 at 6:05 PM

Well Kunitz is signed through next year so he’ll be there. Dupuis is do for a raise (and he’ll get it) certainly, but I don’t necessarily think they are mutually exclusive options given the amount of salary coming of the books (TK, Cooke, Adams, Jeffrey, Murray, Eaton, and Bortuzzo could be gone).

If you don’t see a value in Craig Adams then you don’t know hockey – which is fine – just be prepared for people to vehemently disagree with you when you say something silly like “Who cares” about a cup winning, penalty killing, grinder who can play wing or center…..

I also won’t point out spelling/grammar mistakes like you did (despite the fact that you made a couple in the above post), because generally speaking people who resort to that have run out of things to say….

As for your thoughts on Yinzers, that’s your prerogative to not bring your sons to games if you don’t want to expose them to that – completely understand. However if you think that is an experience that is unique to Steeler fans or Heinz Field you are mistaken. Not judging, I commend you for having the best interests of your kids in mind.

Still, you should stop ending everything you WRITE with 1975… it still looks ridiculous.

    • handsofsweed - May 17, 2013 at 6:13 PM

Great. You don’t see any value in Craig Adams. We get it already. Bylsma, Shero and Mario do. Your opinion is rendered worthless by that fact alone.

So, in review: Bylsma/Shero/66 > you.

      The End.

      • whammy71 - May 17, 2013 at 7:54 PM

It’s nice out….shouldn’t you be out driving around in your purple Miata and throwing confetti in the air?
