Forget suspending Alex Edler — Swedish national team general manager Tommy Boustedt doesn’t believe there was anything wrong with the play that injured Canadian forward Eric Staal yesterday at the IIHF World Championship.

“I do not even think it’s a penalty,” said Boustedt, per News 1130 in Vancouver.

Edler was given a five-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct.

Today, the Canucks’ defenseman said he had “no intention to hurt” Staal.

While that may be true, it’s hard to argue it wasn’t a reckless play.

Staal will reportedly have an MRI Saturday morning in Raleigh.

Edler will find out soon if he’s suspended.
