Video: Ovechkin comes out hitting tonight

May 13, 2013, 9:12 PM EST

Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin has just one goal and an assist in the first round, but he certainly hasn’t been invisible on the ice.

After 20 minutes, Ovechkin led Game 7 with seven hits. The rest of his team combined for just 11 over that span.

You can view his work below:

All the same, the Capitals are probably hoping that Ovechkin can find his scoring touch.

New York has taken a 3-0 lead in Game 7, putting the pressure on Washington to respond or begin their offseason.

So glad the Caps are the better 5 on 5 team so far tonight. Oh yeah, and the Rangers have gotten this lead without a power play, the Ovechkin hit on McDonagh not-withstanding. The only thing Holtby has on Lundqvist is diving ability.

    • tfaltin - May 13, 2013 at 9:24 PM

Ovechkin hasn’t rattled McDonagh and Girardi despite specializing as a KGB attack dog this series.

  2. modellforprez - May 13, 2013 at 9:27 PM

ovie what it is main? whats wrong with oatsies mvp. is ovenchicken choking? no points in 5 straight PLAYOFF games and he is an mvp. no afraid not keep it moving nothing to see here.

  3. eigglesnosuperbowls - May 13, 2013 at 9:27 PM

I think Nick Backstrom needs to score 15 goals in 15 seconds !

  4. 950003cups - May 13, 2013 at 9:44 PM

Ovi sure does suck in the playoffs. Send him to Minnesota with the other postseason choker.

    • tfaltin - May 13, 2013 at 9:50 PM

He’s engaged. Ryan McDonagh has just been better. To this point.

  5. Stiller43 - May 13, 2013 at 9:50 PM

That makes up for his, what, 2 points in 7 games?

  6. jkay1818 - May 13, 2013 at 9:53 PM

The only thing Ovie will be hitting after tonight are golf balls. Thank god we don’t have to hear from these Whiney capital fans anymore. What an annoying bunch they have been. Conspiracy, better five on five, holtby, no penalties blah blah..good season.

  7. biffnasty - May 13, 2013 at 9:55 PM

when Ovi is not playing dirty, boarding McDonagh, charging Brassard, he is flopping worse than Cindy. Ok not even close to cindy but still.

    • mordock57 - May 14, 2013 at 3:06 AM

You almost had a valid point… until you brought Crosby into it. There’s really no hope for you.

    • aso513 - May 14, 2013 at 8:24 AM

      You are an obsessed loser.

  8. jkay1818 - May 13, 2013 at 9:55 PM

Ps. I know anything can happen with a three goal lead, eg: the bruins game, but the rangers have just been dominant. It’s scary the score is three to zip and holtby has been saved by four crossbars.

  9. bigjoe2269 - May 13, 2013 at 9:55 PM

and he is gonna go home crying

  10. gmenfan1982 - May 13, 2013 at 9:56 PM

How ovechkin wasn’t called for charging AND a blow to mcdonagh’s head is beyond me. Principal point of contact was Ovi’s arms up on mcdonagh’s head straight into the boards. AFTER charging into him.

    • elvispocomo - May 14, 2013 at 11:21 AM

No kidding, I just got to see a quick highlight of it and that was a terrible hit. How Ovi doesn’t get any kind of call on that and Sedin get’s called for boarding on his hit on Wengels is beyond me.

  11. bvince860 - May 13, 2013 at 9:58 PM

Ovi leaves his feet on every hit. Must be why he never goes near Boyle, it would too obvious. Or he just likes hitting people smaller than himself.

  12. jkay1818 - May 13, 2013 at 9:59 PM

Sorry for the excessive posts, but Ryan are you even watching the game or is someone feeding you highlights? Far from invisible? His best play was a boarding against McDonagh. He is another minus so far going into the third and he’s been lazy on d. I don’t even know how many shots he even has registered on goal.

Time to beg for more PPs Washington.

  14. thehighcountrybear - May 13, 2013 at 10:06 PM

Call in the G20 Police and get your kids out of downtown TO now…could be trouble.

What a heartbreak for Leafs, hats off to Bruins…

  15. bronxsanman - May 13, 2013 at 10:09 PM

Too bad he hit everything but the back of the net. See you next year ovi

  16. jkay1818 - May 13, 2013 at 10:27 PM

Sam Rosen made a good pt, the capitals only had the lead in one game out of 4 in regulation this entire series. They won two in overtime. All cap fans keep saying is how wash owned the series and like i said all week, it took two ot wins at home to be in this series. Some deflections and bounces wash had all the way through. Hang on eminger took a penalty, caps going on the pp, this isn’t over yet..zzzz

    • tfaltin - May 13, 2013 at 10:34 PM

      Oh, it’s over.

  17. 2jivecrew - May 13, 2013 at 10:43 PM

And with that, slow-as-molasses stay at home Pens defenseman Doug Murray has scored twice as many goals in round one as Alex Ovechkin having played one less game. Just let that sink in, Caps fans. And tell us more about how Ovie is the Hart winner. LOL!

    Ovech-trick! Ovech-trick! Ovech-trick!

    • mordock57 - May 14, 2013 at 3:08 AM

Wow… I’m a Pens fan, and that didn’t even occur to me. Hell… Brooks Orpik has matched Ovie’s goal total in one less game in the playoffs. Hilarious. MVP indeed…

  18. jtm12180 - May 13, 2013 at 10:53 PM

Once again Washington, THANK you for leaving Malkin on the board for us at #2 in ’04!

    • mordock57 - May 14, 2013 at 3:08 AM

      Good times… good times…

  19. leeeroooyjeeenkiiins - May 14, 2013 at 12:53 AM

Tonight reminded me of when the Lightning swept the Caps a couple years ago. I was at that game and while some of his teammates were still putting in effort, he was basically spending the entire game being scummy and throwing as many cheap shots as he possibly could. Defense wasn’t even in the back of his mind.

  20. thehighcountrybear - May 14, 2013 at 1:22 AM

    jtm12180:

Have to agree with you…at the World Juniors in his final year, Malkin absolutely dominated. He literally jumped out at you, that’s how superior he seemed in that class!

  21. ewoods6 - May 14, 2013 at 8:18 AM

I guess you got to hit people if you can’t score a goal. Way to show up in big games. WAAAAH! Penalties!! WAAAAAH!! WAAAAH Refs are out to get me!!! WAAAAH!
