Erik Karlsson laughs off looming Matt Cooke questions

May 11, 2013, 11:04 PM EDT

No doubt about it, the Matt Cooke hit that injured Erik Karlsson is likely to be played frequently during the upcoming second-round series between the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Karlsson couldn’t help but laugh at the questions coming up via his increasingly entertaining Twitter account.

The 22-year-old already has a way with hashtags.

People are still probably going to ask him about it, though.

Nice to see he has a good attitude about the situation. Not that the same can be said for the Sens higher ups.

Forget about the past and play to win.
    Let’s Go Pens!

  2. Stiller43 - May 11, 2013 at 11:42 PM

I root for the kid even more after this. Thats a great attitude to have. Hopefully sens management and fans take the same mature approach a 22 yr old has

  3. andrewproughcfe - May 11, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Good for him. Got to respect the man for coming back so quickly and performing so well already in the playoffs.

    Let’s Go Pens!

  4. sens101 - May 11, 2013 at 11:51 PM

    Class act.

  5. modellforprez - May 12, 2013 at 12:49 AM

hopefully he will get another and if the hockey gods would not mind can you take that Rat Chris Neil. That would be nice

    • devilsarethebest - May 12, 2013 at 12:53 AM

Wow you’re a dum*** wishing players get hurt. One of the reasons people hate Pens fans.

      • gooterbaby - May 12, 2013 at 1:18 AM

        Cool stars!!!

      • steelcityfinest13 - May 12, 2013 at 5:26 AM

Your right…wishing players hurt is a NO-NO….but dont get ahead of yourself….pens fans hate back!!!

      • theageofquarrel - May 12, 2013 at 11:13 AM

He isn’t a Penguin fan. Pretty sure he is a Crapital fan.

    • 950003cups - May 12, 2013 at 1:13 PM

You can wish they get swept. You can wish he has a terrible series. You can even wish he gets benched. But wish the kid harm after he came back from a career threatening injury? Not something you should be feeling.

Save those wishes for guys like that monster who kidnapped those women in Ohio. Not a hockey player.

  6. hazlydose - May 12, 2013 at 1:53 AM

Handled like a professional. You have to admire players with a high amount of skill that carry themselves well on and off the ice.

  7. Stiller43 - May 12, 2013 at 1:54 AM

    Devilsarethebest,

Dont judge pens fans off of one moron. Real fans of any sport dont wish injury on anybody. Bottom line is these are humans first, athletes second, and wearers of your teams particular sweater (or jersey) third.

Its a lot more fun to beat a team at full strength than to beat a crippled team

  8. ohiosteelerfan1980 - May 12, 2013 at 2:30 AM

    Devilsarethebest,

Every team has morons that post and disrespect every team. Disregard what he said. From my past experiences pens fans are very respected and very loyal fans. So please don’t judge the pens fan base off one idiots post. Go pens!

  9. bobhpine - May 12, 2013 at 5:20 AM

Maybe billionaire douche Eugene Melnyk can be as mature about Karlsson’s injury as Karlsson is being.

Oh wait, I forgot, we are still awaiting that forensic investigation commissioned by Melnyk regarding Cooke’s intent. I heard he has Sylvia Brown and Mark Fuhrman on the case. Tool.

  10. bobhpine - May 12, 2013 at 5:26 AM

As for this clown wishing another injury on Karlsson, you should reevaluate things my man. Even the guys actually playing the game don’t wish injuries on each other, but you have so much hatred and anger inside that you want a guy you don’t even know (and never will) to suffer?

This nonsense makes me as sick as when people wish a head injury on Crosby that makes him a vegetable. Those people are pathetic and so are you. Go cheer for the Flyers, they’d love to have a mouth breathing Neanderthal numbskull like you on their side.

  11. benrob99 - May 12, 2013 at 6:07 AM

Question #1- Why did you, your idiot owner, and really your entire city get so butt hurt over what was VERY CLEARLY nothing more than an unfortunate accident?

  12. steelnotsober - May 12, 2013 at 6:24 AM

modellforprez is no way a Pens fan. Pittsburgh people hate Model, the Browns, and Ravens.

    So don’t jump to conclusions.

  13. jaybaileys - May 12, 2013 at 8:33 AM

We can only hope this is the last article about this, sick of hearing about it.

  14. csilojohnson - May 12, 2013 at 8:45 AM

modell is not a Pens fan…..
    Get some perspective..
There are trash fans for every team.
If you think the Devils are the exception you are just blind.
I lived in North Jersery for 11 years.
    NOT the exception. Sorry
How about a comment a about hockey.. Not always just hating on another fanbase.
Hows the Devils series coming anyways?

    • theageofquarrel - May 12, 2013 at 11:16 AM

Wait. Are you telling me that the Devils actually have fans? Who knew

      • 950003cups - May 12, 2013 at 1:20 PM

20 sold out games of 24. I’d say we have fans.

      • basedrum777 - May 13, 2013 at 1:43 PM

950003cups, i was at some of those games. Sellouts include about a 60/40 split at any games with a decent match-up. Just saying.

    • 950003cups - May 12, 2013 at 1:27 PM

So not Pittsburgh fans taking a swipe at Devils fans. Don’t be so bitter just because you can’t beat us. Or that you got embarrassed last year by your hated rival, that we annihilated the very next round.

You ask how the Devils series is coming? We should be asking you that question. Gloating about beating the Islanders in 6 games? Yeah! You guys are just humming along. Sens fans must be shaking in their boots.

      • mordock57 - May 12, 2013 at 4:44 PM

Wow….. 20 out of 24. Talk to us when you have four straight seasons of sellouts and the best TV ratings in the NHL (not to mention higher than both MLB and NBA).

I’m happy we beat the Isles in 6… because I didn’t want to go to 7 with them. The Isles and Caps were the two hottest teams coming into the playoffs. Gloating about LAST season is what fans of teams NOT in the playoffs do. And seeing as we dominated the Sens all regular seasons… yeah, pretty sure Sens fans did NOT want to see the Penguins with home ice against them.

  15. mclovinhockey - May 12, 2013 at 9:59 AM

    Class act,
Was hoping for this as a 2nd round match up… Get to see the pens and sens once again, recently the pens have been winning this match up, but the heart of the sens makes me wonder if they will find a way to knock off the cup favourites.

Since my team is out already, LETS GO HOCKEY!!! Should be the best 2nd round match up unless a rivalry like wings and hawks takes place.

  16. Stiller43 - May 12, 2013 at 12:08 PM

And i forgot to mention, how about that idiotic:

“Nah nah nah Naaaaah nah, HEY, YOU SUCK”

After every goal the devils score your teams fans chant, regardless if youre down 3.

    • 950003cups - May 12, 2013 at 1:32 PM

Only reason you made it out of round one was because the 2 teams that own you didn’t make it this year.

Teams that brought on the Lottery Draft to avoid tanking for the number one pick shouldn’t be expected to poke at other fans who actually have class.

      • Stiller43 - May 12, 2013 at 1:58 PM

Once again, your fanbase has a YOU SUCK chant when you score whether youre up 1, up 5, or down 5. Brag about class all ya want.

      • 950003cups - May 13, 2013 at 1:43 AM

How would you know? Pens are never up any goals vs Devils.

  17. duckmcnuggets - May 12, 2013 at 1:15 PM

Quarrel & Stiller– go put on your baby blue Crosby jerseys and CALM DOWN. A large chunk of your team’s success has to do with Craig Patrick driving your team into the ground and getting two can’t-miss prospects in a row. He drafted MAF too and look how that’s working out long-term. I like Geno. I hate Crosby. Does anybody else feel that way? (Devils fan)

    • Stiller43 - May 12, 2013 at 2:05 PM

Thanks but i hate the powder blues and i dont own an 87 (best player in hockey) jersey.

MAF long term? You mean 9 years of starting goaltending including a SC run? His numbers arent always top of the league stellar, and youll find no bigger critic of his recent playoff history than me, but i would say its worked out alright.

    • mordock57 - May 12, 2013 at 4:48 PM

That Fleury… always winning in the regular season… always getting us to the playoffs… Finals two years in a row with a Stanley Cup win… yeah, totally can’t stand that guy.
