The Anaheim Ducks are on the verge of pushing through to the second round of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Ducks won Game 5 of their Western Conference quarter-final against the Detroit Red Wings and now lead the series three-games-to-two.

Nick Bonino scored the winner at 1:54 of overtime, and the Ducks earned a 3-2 victory over the visiting Red Wings.

  • That was Bonino’s third of these playoffs.
  • For the first time in this series, the Ducks won in overtime. Bucking the trend.
  • Ducks’ forward Daniel Winnik was given a major penalty for boarding in the second period for hitting Red Wings’ forward Daniel Cleary from behind into the end boards. Is further discipline coming? Or needed?
  • Both goalies were good right from the outset of this game. Jimmy Howard made 31 saves in the loss. Jonas Hiller made 29 saves. Here’s a look at some of Howard’s work.
  • With the Red Wings leading and only 32 seconds remaining in the second period, Ryan Getzlaf showed incredible patience and then wired a perfect wrist shot to tie the game. He’s got three in this post-season.
  • Three of the four games played throughout the league on Wednesday went to overtime. Love it.

Would like to see ducks advance…… would also like to see datsyuk and the rest get one more chance at the cup.

Detroits d is terrible… They were out played and out classed.. so many icing on greedy 2 line passes… They should be ashamed… Why not pinch em.. they get beat backpedaling in their zone anyways… weaker than the ducks speed guys.. they looked like boys playing men.. pathetic

Bonino has shown flashes of greatness all year, including a hat trick once.

If the Ducks are indeed going to make a run they need Bonino, Etem, Beleskey, and other under the radar guys to play well.

Apparently Teemu can get away with anything. He blatantly grabbed Detroit defender just before OT winner. He is a dirty, gutless player.

It’s Anaheim, without officials letting crap like this go they wouldn’t have a ring in 07 or a win last night. It’s just how it is. Sad when a great game is ruined by garbage like this.
