Discuss: Rangers hang on late to take Game 3 over Capitals

May 6, 2013, 10:34 PM EDT

Washington Capitals v New York Rangers - Game Three Getty Images

It wasn’t quite the defensive battle the first two games of the series were, but the Rangers did the right things (like scoring goals) to take Game 3 in dramatic fashion 4-3.

It wouldn’t be the superstars doing the damage for the Rangers in this one as Brian Boyle, Derick Brassard, and Arron Asham scored their first three goals. New York finally broke through on the power play on Brassard’s second period tally. It would be Derek Stepan, however, that cast the dagger with 6:25 to play beating Braden Holtby for the game-winner.

The Caps would get a chance late as Brad Richards slashed Alex Ovechkin with just under two minutes to play. Ovechkin helped sell the call by throwing his head back, but the Rangers PK did the rest of the work not allowing a shot on goal in the final 1:56 as the Caps pulled Holtby to make it 6-on-4 in the closing minutes.

Some talking points to digest:

— Even though the Rangers got off the power play schneid, they still went 1-6 on the man advantage in the game. Boyle’s goal was very nearly a PPG, but came just seconds after the advantage ended.

— You can bet your money on the talk being on Ovechkin helping sell the call on Richards. Debate it if you want, but Richards certainly committed a penalty. Do you think an referee is going to book Ovechkin for embellishment there?

— Goaltending had been such a storyline with both Holtby and Henrik Lundqvist playing strong. Not so much tonight as Holtby gave up four on 30 shots. Lundqvist giving up three in 31 shots is rather average.

— They always say it’s not a series til the road team wins and the Caps sure weren’t fazed by the hostile crowd at MSG. Perhaps we’ll have even more of a battle on our hands for Game 4.

Here are the Game 3 highlights:

You take Henrik Lundqvist off of that team, I have serious doubts that they finish anywhere near the top 8…. Dude is UNREAL

    • ravenscaps48 - May 6, 2013 at 10:40 PM

      3 PP’s including a 6 on 4 = One Shot! WOW!

      • ravenscaps48 - May 7, 2013 at 10:45 AM

How are people disliking facts? I wasn’t complaining about the referees, but more about their inability to get pucks on net. 1 shot on three power plays, including a must score situation at the end of the game with a two man advantage? That was pitiful

    • valoisjoeybfeld69 - May 7, 2013 at 7:01 AM

Where do you think the caps finish this year if you take showboat 8 off the team? Great goaltending can and has been part of SC winners in the past. 16 times a goalie has won the playoff MVP. Only about 4 were on the losing team.

  2. c1md6 - May 6, 2013 at 10:47 PM

And the Oscar award winner is…Alexander ovechkin!! Here to present the award is multiple award winner Cindy Crosby!

    • ravenscaps48 - May 6, 2013 at 10:57 PM

Because the stick clearly didn’t hit him on the cheek or anything….

      • phillyphanatic77 - May 6, 2013 at 11:11 PM

He definitely got hit with a high stick but he also did all he could to sell it. Wasn’t close to the acting job he had against the Flyers though. That was the one that had Milbury blow a gasket. Smart play by Ovi, but then they refused to shoot on the ensuing PP.

      • stakex - May 6, 2013 at 11:21 PM

It did hit him in the face, but a stick that grazes your face doesn’t knock your feet out from under you. It was a good sell job, and there is a big difference between being a diver and selling a call.

      • ziplock10 - May 7, 2013 at 2:22 AM

At one point, the the Rangers had 6 powerplays to 1.

Oh yeah! The Caps embellished!!! You’re freakin high!

The first call was a joke. Its called finishing a check. That’s what Ovi did, as did the Rangers all night.

But that was to keep them in the series and for those NY $$$$$$’s!!!!

      • broncs93 - May 7, 2013 at 8:09 AM

The stick didn’t hit him on the cheek. It hit him on the chest. Then, about 2 seconds after the light contact, Ovie throws his head back and falls. Even Cindy Crosby thought that was over the top. It was absolutely a penalty on Richards, but using Saturday’s embellishment call on Dorsett as the standard, it was also penalty on Ovie.

      • jpelle82 - May 7, 2013 at 9:40 AM

chest and far right shoulder, definitely not the face. the falling to one knee part sold it, the head snapping back a second later was just embarassing.

      • ravenscaps48 - May 7, 2013 at 10:48 AM

And Crosby falling down like Humpty Dumpty in OT was completely a hold and not the slightest bit of embellshment…..

    • captmess - May 6, 2013 at 11:01 PM

Amen, the no touch crybaby rules.if you hit Cindy Crosby, bettman&pierre McGuire will cry!

      • mhaubach - May 7, 2013 at 7:39 AM

It’s called drawing a penalty. Every major player attempts to do this. It’s as normal an act during the playoffs as overly-physical play.

  3. Stiller43 - May 6, 2013 at 10:51 PM

Heyy the rags decided to score more than the .5 a game they were averaging?! Its about time!!

  4. dwightbuttz - May 6, 2013 at 10:52 PM

Still trying to figure out how the Rags had 9 Blue skirts on the ice, yet the Caps got the whistle for too many men

    • blackfoot11 - May 7, 2013 at 9:15 AM

Its b/c the Caps played the puck first with six men on the ice, so they were assessed the penalty. Would have been the same for the Rangers.

  5. mp1113 - May 6, 2013 at 10:55 PM

Caps were better 5 on 5 just couldnt stay out of the box and lost momentum. Ovi definitely sold the call but richards stick clearly hit him in the face. Tough loss. Holtby will be better in game 4 and the Caps will win. LETS GOOO

    • blackfoot11 - May 7, 2013 at 9:22 AM

Agreed, the Caps had one of those games where they fell into bad habits and tallied frequent penalties. Definitely killed any momentum they were able to build. Great game by both teams. Each refused to back down and it was just good hockey to watch. Depth players were the heros for both teams. Looking forward to game 4. Go Caps!

  6. c1md6 - May 6, 2013 at 10:58 PM

Lola keep telling yourself that holtby will be better stocking cap fans. Fact is he’s been protected by the post and crossbar all series, now the rangers got some momentum and are shooting from everywhere he better he his act together or it’s four in a row for the blue shirts!!

    • mp1113 - May 6, 2013 at 11:02 PM

post dont count for goals last time i checked and the rangers arent shooting from everywhere. fact is if the caps dont take 6 stupid penalties they win this game. pretty sure queen henrick got some help from the bar tonight too. anyway. great series as it always is. go caps

      • mp1113 - May 6, 2013 at 11:03 PM

and i wanna smoke what you are if you think the rangers win 4 in a row

      • goodellisruiningtheleague - May 6, 2013 at 11:28 PM

Ummm last I checked it’s best out of 7. The series is 2-1 Caps. That would mean the Rangers only need to win 3 more games. If they won 4 in a row that would make the series 5-2 Rangers.

      • goodellisruiningtheleague - May 7, 2013 at 8:37 AM

Wow I’m an idiot. I don’t know what I was thinking last night. Obviously the Rangers just winning the next 3 would be 4 straight. My apologies.

  7. capsfan19 - May 6, 2013 at 10:59 PM

Rangers played a good game, monopolized on bad defense on our carlson erskine line (mainly carlson).
BUT… Rags fans are just rediculous. Did i seriously see balloons floating around before the game was over? What are you guys the canucks or something? Last i checked the series was 2-1 with just escaping by a one goal lead.
On top of that the holtby sucks chant. Lets put things in perspective here. I remember quite recently, couldve been you know, a couple days ago a certain goalie got a nice shutout. I cant remember his name but oh yea… BRADEN HOLTBY against your team. So go ahead and do all your stupid chants and stupid balloons cause this series is no where near over.
Hell yea im frustrated. Lundqvist the the ONLY thing keeping these games close. Rags played much better d but he made about 3 saves of the game tonight.
And notice how i didnt say a word about terrible calls? Ahem… Cough… Cough… 8 men on the ice for new york… But this was no game decided on bad calls. It was poor caps d. They’ll be back next game you better believe it. Hopefully it’ll balloons with RED on it just to smear it in their faces.
    Lets go caps.

    • blockedshotnyr - May 7, 2013 at 1:55 AM

The chants are not Holtby sucks, they are Ovie sucks…

As for the balloons – I was not there tonight but I can tell you that usually before playoff games some fans distribute red white and blue balloons as to toss around during the finish of the national anthem – that is the likely explanation. Also could just be MSG – unlikely it was the fans as a celebratory gesture.

As for your comments about Hank – I could say the same thing about the Rangers lousy puck luck at this point in the series but hey, whatever. It’s 2-1 Caps, I don’t know what you’re crying about.

Hope the Rangers get Clowe back for game 4 would be great to add some experience and toughness.

    • maddalone - May 7, 2013 at 2:24 AM

capsfan19: one your hiding behind a pseudonym enough said, two please do some research before you post some idiotic comments. Full Discoser: I have been to many NHL games, I am a New York Rangers Season Subscriber, I took part in field operations during 9/1i. Although I didn’t personally know anyone killed in the 9/11 attacks, I regularly do my running in a park where two individuals gravestones are there because their bodies were never recovered. One of the great things about NHL games is the renditions of National Anthems. To witness Jim Cornelison, of the Blackhawks, sing the National Anthem while the crowd is cheering sent shivers down my spine. To witness Rene Rancourt, of the Bruins, sing the National Anthem is absolutely fabulous, to see the You Tube video of Mister Rancourt letting the fans sing the Anthem, after the Marathon Bombings, I don’t even have a word to describe that. To read you mocking the way The Blue Seat Faithful Honor the United States and the people lost on September 11th sickens me to no end, you don’t read me on hear mocking the “OOOO” during your rendition of the National Anthem in DC, which I have witnessed three times. Within the Blue Seats there were many Subscribers both from the civilian and government ranks killed on that day, some of the victims were close friends of Rangers whose numbers are retired in the rafters. During the Playoffs we pay homage to the family, friends and acquaintances lost that day, by releasing the Red, White and Blue Balloons, We also have the FDNY band and a meMber of either NYCPD or FDNY, replace our regular Anthem singer John Amarante sing the National Anthem, for at least the Opening Game of the round.

Now in regards to the game, your mention of stupid chants, I think Holtby had three shots get past him, two hit the post and one definitely got over the line but within the rules of the game he recorded a shutout, I also think, I heard some mock HENRIK chants from the NBC feed, which is perfectly acceptable because the way I was taught to watch a game live, was to chant against the opposing goalie when he was at your end of the ice.

The 8 men on the ice well when you change lines you could have up to 10 skaters on the ice as long as they are taking no action in playing a puck or body, your guy happened to stick out a leg and make contact with Dorsett, while going to the bench as his replacement was already on the ice.

I know that this is a forum where fans can discuss and have fun while discussing hockey amongst other sports and believe me this is a great site but I ask you before you mock traditions do some research any cares, concerns or other discussions you want to do hit me up.

      • rtfinch - May 7, 2013 at 9:24 AM

kind of hypocritical for you to lecture someones lack of knowledge on “traditions” of the national anthem, then comment on “caps fans yelling ‘ooo.'” if you did your homework you’d know that “Oo” you hear during the national anthem is from the baltimore orioles fans, caps fans yell “Red” at “Rockets Red Glare.” if youre going to comment on lack of knowledge and tradition, you may want to do your homework as well.

    • broncs93 - May 7, 2013 at 8:17 AM

I’m sorry…are bandwagon Caps fans, who need cheerleaders and horns to tell them when to cheer and need to be told what to wear to the games, really taking shots at Rangers fans? That’s funny.

      • maddalone - May 7, 2013 at 2:19 PM

rtfinch during my research before posting my comment to capsfan19, my friends and I discussed when we saw games at the Verizon Center we heard OOOO and didn’t see many Orioles Jerseys and we are getting mocked for releasing red, white and blue balloons? I’m also well aware of the emphasis on Red tradition, maybe the Caps fans should enlighten the Orioles fans on the proper Anthem tradition at the Verizon Center, just like my fellow Blue Seaters enlightened me on a long standing tradition, that has evolved in meaning through the years.

  8. capsfan19 - May 6, 2013 at 11:00 PM

And if we’re going to talk about embellishment the olesky call on nash… Nash sold like a salesmen sells cars.

  9. gmenfan1982 - May 6, 2013 at 11:00 PM

Rangers were owed a pp on that too many men after the botched delay of game no call in game 2. Ovi certainly should’ve gotten 2 for embellishment. Just like Dorsett got in game 3 which wasn’t even close to what Ovi did. Hard fought win. Love to see my boys not give in after caps kept countering. But seriously, where is Sid to hand Ovi the Oscar for best actor?

    • subliminalnoize - May 6, 2013 at 11:47 PM

How are you going to compare a questionable delay of game call to an too many men on the ice call where the team being called for said too many men has THREE LESS(COUNT IT 3!!!!! LESS MEN) I ask you how does that even qualify as comparable?????????

      • curtismayfield - May 7, 2013 at 1:14 PM

Both teams had too many men on the ice on that play, caps played the puck and were therefore called, if rangers had played the puck it would’ve gone against them.

  10. gmenfan1982 - May 6, 2013 at 11:01 PM

Not saying Richards didn’t commit a penalty but Ovi certainly embellished. The only way to stop embellishment is to nullify the original penalty.

    • devilsarethebest - May 6, 2013 at 11:04 PM

If he actually committed a penalty then who cares that Ovechkin embellished? He was just making sure he got the PP he deserved.

      • jpelle82 - May 7, 2013 at 11:02 AM

when you embellish it creates a boy who cried wolf situation and you dont want that for your team/player. the ovechkin thing last night was so obvious its almost impossible to argue and you’re a fool if you think the refs and the league doesnt see that and remember. will bite you in the ass eventually though i cant remember another time i’ve seen something like that from ovechkin.

  11. Stiller43 - May 6, 2013 at 11:12 PM

Fyi boys, the best player in hockey has 0 career diving/embellishment penalties. Chat all ya want about him, you know you would kill to have him on your team.

    • goodellisruiningtheleague - May 6, 2013 at 11:30 PM

I’m confused. Where did this article mention anything about the Penguins? Last I checked the Penguins are in the same boat as the Capitals only leading the series 2-1.

      • Stiller43 - May 7, 2013 at 12:36 AM

Ummm not sure if you noticed, but my only two comments were: 1) about the rangers, 2) replying to a comment that SOMEBODY ELSE made about crosby embellishing, event though he has no such penalities since 2005. Even though my favorite team resides in western PA, i live in northern VA, watch most caps games, a lot of reg season games not featuring my team, and every playoff game thats on….sorry?

    • blockedshotnyr - May 7, 2013 at 1:59 AM

Just because it does not get called does not mean it shouldn’t be. Crosby (and Malkin) get more leash than most.

    • broncs93 - May 7, 2013 at 8:26 AM

Once again, Sean Avery had zero suspensions for any on-ice issues, but you probably think he was a dirty player.

      • jpelle82 - May 7, 2013 at 11:06 AM

strange huh? just like crosby hasnt ever been called for diving but people still think he is a diver? haters gonna hate, unless he’s on your team

      • broncs93 - May 7, 2013 at 12:15 PM

Don’t get me wrong. Avery did plenty of dirty things on the ice (not Matt Cooke dirty) and Crosby is a diver. But using the fact that no ref has called a Crosby for a dive as proof that he isn’t a diver is idiotic. The eyes don’t lie, and I’ve seen him dive enough to know that he’s a diver.

  12. anthonykornheiser - May 6, 2013 at 11:14 PM

is this whole thread going to be capital fans whining and making excuses all night and talk about how bad the rangers are? it was game 3, the home team won, wednesday is a new day.

  13. gmenfan1982 - May 6, 2013 at 11:14 PM

Because Ovi would’ve received two minutes also and there would’ve been no PP. Not hard to understand.

  14. gmenfan1982 - May 6, 2013 at 11:21 PM

Stiller43: Don’t even go there. He might be a great player with 0 embellishment penalties but if he actually got called on them he would have quite a few. And I’d take Sid over Ovi any day. But still don’t appreciate the whining and diving.

  15. captmess - May 6, 2013 at 11:26 PM

NYR always get jobbed by bettman s refs

    • dumbassgreg - May 7, 2013 at 12:51 AM

dolen fault you do what gary tells . dolan tried to make his own endorsements deals . gary is getting upset. not like when van hellemond screwed quebec to help rangers win

  16. cspsrbums - May 6, 2013 at 11:37 PM

@c1md6 Really saved by the post. We have hit the post as many times as the Rangers 1-0 in the first and Chimera rang the post would have been2-0 You NYers really have to stop using that as an excuse. The Rangers Got out played in all 3 games but they Outscored the caps in 1 game. The caps out shot the rangers 30-18 when it was 5on5 Caps were short handed for 12 min of the first 30min. You have to be honest with yourself do you really think the rangers looked good. My opinion they looked horrible even after 6 pp

    • curtismayfield - May 7, 2013 at 1:18 PM

penalties count, and the caps were getting a lot of them, they looked less disciplined than in the first two games. rangers converted more opportunities, thtas alll there is too it. if you think they looked horrible, then oh well, the caps looked worse cause they lost. Still, a real tight series, game 4 should be a doozy.

  17. pitpenguinsrulez - May 6, 2013 at 11:39 PM

Oh this site never ceases to amaze me with the comments. Prohockeytalk should throw all of us a party lol but seriously tho the Caps still look pretty good after losing. Hopefully the Rangers can make this a series if they win on Wednesday night. If the Rangers lose this series is all but over i think. …And to of no surprise that asshat Mike Milbury buries another star player in that being of Rick Nash. I honestly can’t stand that toolbag Mike Milbury one bit.

    • phillyphanatic77 - May 7, 2013 at 11:39 AM

Well Milbury despises the Pens so it’s no surprise you, in turn, hate him. But Pierre LOVES the Pens (Crosby in particular) so I’d say NBC evens it out.

  18. cspsrbums - May 6, 2013 at 11:41 PM

@ goodel if you were to win the next 3 games that would be 4 in a row are you dumb or from NY

    • goodellisruiningtheleague - May 7, 2013 at 11:07 AM

I went back and corrected it today. I clearly wasnt thinking straight last night

  19. rpiotr01 - May 6, 2013 at 11:43 PM

I lucked into some seats close to the ice for this game. I’m glad the Rangers won a hard fought game, don’t get me wrong, but mother of god – Ovechkin is just frightening. He had an early rush to the net that literally threw me back in my seat. He’s the most explosive player I’ve ever seen.

My impression is that the Rangers don’t have the horses to win a 7 game series against these guys. I hope they give them a good run but I doubt it’s there.

  20. ludacrish05 - May 6, 2013 at 11:44 PM

Just want to give the refs all the credit for tonight’s rangers win, couldn’t have done it without them. Lets clap to that ladies and gentleman

    • pitpenguinsrulez - May 7, 2013 at 12:06 AM

Boy the refs SURE did help the Rangers. I guess going 1 for 6 on the power play qualifies as getting help from the refs. I mean the refs bought the “SO CALLED” high stick on Ovie! I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be crying about refs if the Crapitals had decided to shoot the puck and score instead of being pass happy at the end of the game.

  21. scottydooks - May 6, 2013 at 11:46 PM

I’m a Caps fan and was at The Garden tonight and it was a tough loss to a great game. I love Ovi, love what he has done this year, and have always been a fan but it was very tough watching him play defense tonight. I understand that that isn’t his game and he has always played D his own way, but there were times where he literally did not try (swing your stick, put pressure on, anything) and it cost us a goal in the third. Wouldn’t be here without his scoring, but now that we ARE here, would love for him to D up and help move us towards a championship…please.

  22. cspsrbums - May 6, 2013 at 11:49 PM

I believe we are seeing the last few games Torts will be coaching in NY

  23. cspsrbums - May 7, 2013 at 12:11 AM

@pitpen I guess even though they were 1-6 it doesn’t wear a team down being short handed for 12 min in the 1st 30 min. More hockey knowledge coming out is Pittsburg

  24. Stiller43 - May 7, 2013 at 2:42 AM

    Maddalone,

Cheers to your point on the “OOOO” by caps fans during the anthem. Its from annoying nearby OOOrioles fans (that presumably double as caps fans, if you didnt know). I always thought it was completely classless to interject rooting interests in the national anthem.

  25. capsfan19 - May 7, 2013 at 3:48 AM

Yea i got a care, why dont you relax. Holy cow i thought i was wound up!
What do you want me to do? Do my research? I know as a caps fan im supposed to “hate” the penguins but i cannot stand the rangers and their canucks balloons. Fuggetaboutit.

    • pone27 - May 7, 2013 at 7:21 AM

This has been as entertaining as a typical Pens vs. Flyers post here on PHT, but I will chime in and say it only once.

Being a Hawks fan born and raised in NY, hearing you AGAIN speak about the balloons at the Garden breeds a level of disrespect for you I wish on no one.

Do your research, understand why the Garden symbolizes with the balloons, and keep that garbage trash talk out of your mouth. You aren’t hating/disrespecting Rangers fans, you are jabbing at all NYers affected by 9/11. F off

  26. spavs412 - May 7, 2013 at 7:39 AM

I miss asham in black & gold!! Might’ve missed a ton of reg season games but he shows up when you need him!

  27. anthonykornheiser - May 7, 2013 at 8:32 AM

capsfan, you sound clueless, the red, white and blue balloons are during the national anthem, the balloons are in the flags colors and it’s for those lost during 9/11.
Why would they be celebrating before the game starts?

  28. magicrat13 - May 7, 2013 at 9:12 AM

gee….an awful lot of complaining and whining by caps fans after just one loss…uh, you do realize you still lead the series 2-1, and still hold home ice advantage, right?

another good game by both clubs…tough series where each game can go either way…

rangers finally started getting some offense and held on at the end…

wednesday is still a must win for the rangers….win that, then we’ll see where the series goes…

  29. boisehockeyref - May 7, 2013 at 10:05 AM

I said it before on another string…the league MUST crack down on embellishments. You would have thought Ovie was shot with a howitzer the way he collapsed.

  30. 950003cups - May 7, 2013 at 10:25 AM

The balloons in MSG have been there for years. Way before 9/11. But I would t expect some dick weed who tried interject the events of 9/11 to a bunch of fans in a game bouncing balloons around during a game. Watch the 1994 Devils/Rangers series. You’ll see balloons there too. Next you’ll say “we’ll, that was for WWII”.

Keep 9/11 out of your argument. You douche bag!

    • broncs93 - May 7, 2013 at 12:22 PM

I had season tickets in the blue seats at MSG during the 90’s and I remember the balloons for the first time during the 94 playoffs. They were used during the national anthem, not for celebrating and not during the game.

  31. 950003cups - May 7, 2013 at 10:30 AM

    Let me be more clear:
    @Maddalone

The balloons in MSG have been there for years. Way before 9/11. But I wouldn’t expect some dick weed (YOU) who tries interject the events of 9/11 to a bunch of fans in a game bouncing balloons around during a game to care. Watch the 1994 Devils/Rangers series. You’ll see balloons there too. Next you’ll say “we’ll, that was for WWII”.

Keep 9/11 out of your argument. Dont try to post that you were there to argue a bunch of balloons. Don’t dare cheapen what others gave their lives for. You douche bag!

    • magicrat13 - May 7, 2013 at 10:56 AM

      classy….as always……

    • jkay1818 - May 7, 2013 at 11:36 AM

95003cups, there are a lot of clowns on this site eg: the penguins kid, yes kid who creates 400 names to rile people up and talk about crosby. Then there are some out of control flyer fans, but dude, you need to relax, EVERY post is this ridiculous animosity and rage. You are a jerkoff sitting on a computer arguing with people, not even getting under the skin of people like that pens fan, but full out arguing, cursing and freaking out. Not just on this but EVERY post. You are absolutely ridiculous. Do you realize how big of a loser your are? pushing your glasses to your face, hovering over the cpu, typing 1000 words a minute, face red in anger. You are a fool. You repeat yourself 3 times a thread. Take a chill man, it’s PHT, relax. You’re arguing over a cpu.

Look who’s talking. I’d have no problem saying my comment right to the face of the one who cheapened 9/11. Can you say the same for yourself?

95003cups I was raised with the tradition of removing my cap, standing and listening to the National Anthem but traditions evolve, especially after significant national events. Blackhawk fans start cheering during the Anthem after the 1980 USA Soviet Olympics match, I personally started signing along with the Anthem after 9/11, and I still can’t eloquently describe the Bruins fans recent rendition. The Rangers, as all New York sports teams were tremendously supportive to the community post 9/11. The Rangers still to today, feature a color guard from an Uniformed Government service, FDNY’s Pipe band and for at least the first game of each series a member of NYC’s Public Safety Agency as the National Anthem singer. I know the balloons have been there for a long time but I was only able to attend my first Rangers home Playoff game in 2006, which was the first Post 9/11 home Playoff game.

I was lucky that fateful day. I didn’t lose anyone close to me, people I knew of in my community weren’t. I can only hope that the service and support I provided that day, assisted my community in its recovery. When I attend a Rangers game it’s to provide a few hours of downtime to unwind, to prevent burnout. The balloons have taken a very different meaning to me. In my own way, by me releasing my blue balloon to coincide with our flag was still there is a remembrance of sacrifice by people who weren’t as lucky as me, it also symbolizes a resolve against people who kill innocent people for political gain. It’s not to cheapen what others have sacrificed, it’s for me to remember where I have been and where I need to continue to dig down deep and progress, so I continue to make my community safe.

To read a pseudo named poster, mocking a tradition that has taken a whole new meaning to me and my community is extremely offensive. Hopefully, I have educated you and capsfan19, the reasoning behind some traditions and maybe we can progress these conversations towards the action on the ice of particular games instead of tangents of the hockey universe.

OK, I’m more clear about what you mean now. I take it all back. My apologies

I thought the Caps had the early edge in play. Rangers got thru it only giving up one goal. As far as penalties go, I haven’t been overwhelmed by the officiating in this series. Hank & Holtby are matching each other quite well. Rangers need more traffic to the front of the net. Hopefully Clowe can play & provide that.

How about Olesky getting a 2 min Penalty for elbowing and Bourque for Montreal gets nothing for his blatent elbow against Ottawa. Officials have been inconsistent and Horrible this year

Really? Complaining about balloons, I’m pretty sure the 10 minute obnoxious goal horn for the caps is completely fine and not boisterous at all.
