Discuss: Penguins best Islanders in wild OT game

May 5, 2013, 3:24 PM EDT

UNIONDALE, NY - MAY 05: Sidney Crosby #87 of the Pittsburgh Penguins moves around Michael Grabner #40 of the New York Islanders in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals during the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on May 5, 2013 in Uniondale, New York. The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders each coughed up two goals leads as the momentum shifted wildly throughout this contest. At the end of the day, the Pittsburgh Penguins gained the series lead on the strength of a pair of Chris Kunitz‘s power-play goals assisted by Sidney Crosby.

Here are some talking points for the Penguins’ 5-4 overtime win:

  • The New York Islanders were a below average penalty killing team in the regular season and they’ve shown an inability to contain the Penguins when they’re down a man in this series. Pittsburgh has converted on six of their 13 power-play opportunities in the first round, but to be fair to the Islanders, Kyle Okposo did score a shorthanded goal in the third period.
  • The Penguins acquisitions near the trade deadline played a big role in this game. Jarome Iginla cut the Islanders’ early lead in half and Douglas Murray netted what proved to be a key goal late in the second period.
  • John Tavares was limited to just one assist in his first two playoff games, but he forced this match to overtime. It wasn’t enough for the Islanders today, but it probably won’t be the last we see of him in this series.
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins showed some faith in Marc-Andre Fleury by keeping him in the game after allowing two early goals. Tomas Vokoun gives them a viable alternative, but it doesn’t look like Fleury is on a short leash.
  • The Islanders were 10-11-3 at home during the regular season. Is playing at Nassau Coliseum much of an advantage for the Islanders?

Listen listen yon can here eiggles cryin sob…sob. Man it must suck to be a Cryers fan

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:35 PM

Cryin hahahahahahahahahah your superstar roster is strugglin with an 8th seed and is getting the little nudge they need ny the refs to have a great big commanding 2-1 lead on the series !

      • bern1417 - May 5, 2013 at 3:46 PM

I guess the Phillies aren’t enough for attention, eh? Maybe you can go watch your 2nd tier NFL team practice.. The fact that you’re even watching this series just shows you have no life and IT’S VERY VERY VERY HARD TO BE A PHILLY FAN!!!

      • crosberries - May 5, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Just call eiggles the 40+ year old virgin

      • yeahboys - May 5, 2013 at 3:59 PM

Gotta few lucky board bounces there eiggles or this is 3-0.
5-3 power plays don’t magically happen. Your boys are struggling against skill.
And in the end, this is a skilled players game.
Strait’s jock is hanging in the rafters after The Kid schooled him in clutch time.
Jeremy Roenick and Mike Mulberry are perfect together. Both, of course, are President’s Cup chokers. Neither has an engraving on Lord Stanley’s silver chalise. Funny how that words rhymes with “jealous,” isn’t it?
Two post dingers in the third. Nabakov is lucky to be playing right now. Kunitz made him look arthritic on that first one, eh?

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 4:03 PM

You didn’t just go it should be 3-0 on me did you ?????? The FLYLANDERS battered the team from pittsburgh in game two ! The FLYLANDERS kicked them in their teeth then went in their pockets and left with a well earned victory in the other teams barn ehhhhhhhhh !

      • walleye9000 - May 5, 2013 at 4:02 PM

Man eiggles i hope you are eatin right and workin out to stay healthy. Because if you are waiting for an Eagles superbowl or a Flyers Cup win you might have to be around for awhile to see it. 1975 really 1975 wow that must HURT! Were you even around for that or did someone have to explain it to you. Might be easier to switch your teams or watch golf or tennis instead

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 4:05 PM

        That sucked

      • steeltuff - May 5, 2013 at 5:15 PM

Hey man, you need a 12-Step program to deal with all that HATE you’re carrying around. Let it go, man. Sports ain’t worth lugging around that big gorilla on your back.

      • drone501 - May 5, 2013 at 7:33 PM

this eighth seed is a helluva lot better than the 12th seed flyers. 12th seeds stay at home and watch the overpaid but pathetic phillies lmao

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:46 PM

If you listen really really close you can hear in the refs locker room the refs saying they don’t know how much longer they can carry the team from pittsburgh !

    • yeahboys - May 5, 2013 at 4:06 PM

Yes, eiggles is Kid Hater, fo sho. He can join Roenick and Mulberry. NBC needs to find some winners, not whiners, as Cup analysts. Those two can’t seem to get over the demons of their collective Cup failures. Canadiens owned them then, and Canadians (like Crosby) own them now. Thought Massachusetts kids had more respect for the game than to call an Oscar for Crosby.

      • broncs93 - May 6, 2013 at 8:23 AM

You’re right, NBC needs to get on the ball. How dare real hockey guys tell the truth? Where was Pierre and his black and gold tie when you really needed him? I do agree with you, they were wrong to suggest that Sidney deserved an Oscar. An Oscar would indicate that it was good acting. That was the worst acting job since Gigli. I loved the part where “so strong on the puck” Sidney has his legs fly out and he falls on his ass.

    • imleftcoast - May 6, 2013 at 12:01 AM

Generous penalty call. Maybe the Pens could win it on their own. The refs have to help them out?

  2. friedberg7 - May 5, 2013 at 3:26 PM

Let the Crosby is a diver debate begin!!

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:29 PM

      There is no debate !

      • sportsfreak13 - May 5, 2013 at 3:31 PM

0 diving penalties in his career. Hahaha so much fun having my favorite team in the playoffs, even if they didn’t play great.

  3. haterzinc - May 5, 2013 at 3:27 PM

    Eiggles it was a PPmgoal……..wah wah wah….cryers

  4. miketoasty - May 5, 2013 at 3:28 PM

In before Pens suck off refs, or whatever other excuse eiggles is going to make.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:31 PM

I don’t have to say a word on this one you yinzers are saying it all and you don’t even realize it !

  5. cavafox - May 5, 2013 at 3:29 PM

Here’s comes the ‘the pens were handed the game by the refs’ posts.

  6. haterzinc - May 5, 2013 at 3:29 PM

I have a feeling this article won’t get as many comments as the game 2 loss article . 180 comments!!!!!! Pennsylvania hockey talk . Com…… Where my haters at

    • walleye9000 - May 5, 2013 at 3:34 PM

His mom just went into the basement and brought him some warm milk and some kleenex.

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:42 PM

did she have army boots on too

  8. bobhpine - May 5, 2013 at 3:34 PM

Come on man, we should know by now that it is ALWAYS a dive if Crosby draws the penalty. Also…Unless the Pens score every goal 5 on 5 it’s obviously a gift from the refs.

These aren’t debatable points. They are laws of the universe.

Whatever, that was an entertaining game. The Isles are fast and the Pens are still too sloppy.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:38 PM

That wasn’t a dive that was a stumblin an bumblin act !

    • bern1417 - May 5, 2013 at 3:52 PM

It’s a fact that the 2 teams the Pens struggled with this season are the Isles and the Leafs.. Why? Bc both teams are incredibly fast and the Pens struggle with their transition game against teams with speed. I realize they had a winning record against both clubs, but they still struggled in for the most part.. Should the Pens not get out of the first or second round Bylsma better be sent packing..

      • yeahboys - May 5, 2013 at 4:19 PM

Hey, sometimes you gotta struggle to win a game. This is the NHL, izzitnot? . Bottom line, as you correctly stated, ‘Guins got the job done. Keep the faith, eh? Skilled hockey will beat fortunate bounces in the end. Isles mojo is running out. How many more pipe clangers does Nabakov have owned to him? He better start payin’ that devil soon…

      • aflong2020 - May 6, 2013 at 2:36 PM

I find it bizarre that they have such a hard time with teams that have good speed. The pens have really good speed themselves.

  9. sportsfreak13 - May 5, 2013 at 3:35 PM

I feel bad for eiggles. To have to root for a team in your own division to beat your rivals is rough. Crosby with 3 assists and giroux with a double bogey. Who’s the best player in the world again?

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:41 PM

Don’t feel bad I have a maximum of four teams that I could possibly root for before this thing is said and done and none of them are out yet ! LETS GO FLYLANDERS !

      • sportsfreak13 - May 5, 2013 at 3:47 PM

Haha but none of them are your hometown favorite team. Completely different feeling when your favorite team is playing meaningful games this time of the year.

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 3:50 PM

Dosen’t matter so get use to it !

      • sportsfreak13 - May 5, 2013 at 3:52 PM

Haha I love it. Regardless if its a win or loss reading your comments make me smile, because I know it can be worse.

  10. holeecowman - May 5, 2013 at 3:36 PM

why wont the hands off Crosby rule go the fack away? that strait penalty was garbage. there should’ve been a dive called as well. and yes the ice chickens were handed this game. did anybody else see Crosby look at the ref when he was down he licked his lips indicating something. wtf

    • crosberries - May 5, 2013 at 3:54 PM

Yeah to see if the correct call was made you moron

    • bern1417 - May 5, 2013 at 3:55 PM

Why are you focusing on another man’s lips is the real question? I bet the min you noticed that you stuck your hands down your pants…SICKO!!!

  11. bcisleman - May 5, 2013 at 3:38 PM

Everyone seems concerned about the call. It was an arguable one my main point being that I have seen a lot worse not get called especially in a playoff OT. In fact there were many possible calls on the Pens–including Kunitz’ repeated slashing of Grabs that were overlooked.

As to the article, I guess MSM isn’t done fawning over the Pens. For instance, some might have expected the Isles to fold down 4-2 going into the 3rd. Instead, they turned things around and tied it up. One might have thought that would have been one of the storylines from this game.

    • handsofsweed - May 5, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Agreed. If that had been a non-call, us Pens fans couldn’t have complained too much It was the very definition of borderline. That one just went our way. There will be one that doesn’t at some point soon. We’ll just have to kill it after it happens.

      • crosberries - May 5, 2013 at 3:57 PM

How about all the calls that weren’t made in game one to keep the score from being outrageous. Happened in the second game too including when okposo should of been given the instigator penalty for the fight. Instead the islanders scored about 15-30 seconds later.

      • bern1417 - May 5, 2013 at 4:04 PM

Read the rulebook. I know I know Roenick and Millbury both said it was a soft call, so it must be a bad call. However, both are Pgh haters to the fullest. If it’s a penalty with 18min left in the 1st period it’s still a penalty in OT. Every fanbase on the wrong side of a call like that is going to cry it’s natural.. However, the Isles have got away with a ton in the last 2 games including toothless Hamonic punching Malkin, and others taking 6 strides and throwing a check. Not to mention it’s been shown that the Isles can do whatever to Matt Cooke bc he acted like an idiot for 10yrs.. This happens in every sport with officials, refs and umpires. The sad part is that things will never change.

      • handsofsweed - May 5, 2013 at 4:55 PM

True, bern. Sid gets that call (heck ANYONE gets that call) when a defender is almost completely behind him, reaches over to have both hands on the front of the same shoulder and gives even a slight tug. Sid had him beat and in a really compromised position before feeling the double-handed tug. Can’t blame him for going a little dead-legged in one leg and allowing himself to be taken down. If it happended to us by Tavares, I’d have to admit that he played us like punks and got a call bc our defender didn’t move his feet well enough to begin with.

    • jpelle82 - May 5, 2013 at 4:25 PM

pens missed another 2 goals by murray and cooke off the post in the third, isles were lucky it went to ot in the first place

    • yeahboys - May 5, 2013 at 4:34 PM

Close-but-no-cigar is rarely a compelling storyline in the end… Isles got plenty of that press after Game 2.
How Nabakov still has his dignity after leaving wide open nets left and right is more of a storyline. He’s gotta be hearing those post dings in his ears all night long (as he’s cold-sweating how many lives the hockey gods still have left for him).

      • jpelle82 - May 5, 2013 at 5:06 PM

definitely, he didnt look good. pens should be salivating going into game 4 with him playing like he did today, they should be shooting high on him from everywhere on the ice.

  12. haterzinc - May 5, 2013 at 3:45 PM

Eiggles…actually is a SHE. No man would complain or find things to complain about quite as good as a women like eiggles. Don’t let her confuse you with the bickering. It’s quite evident her period came during the plyoffs

  13. bobhpine - May 5, 2013 at 3:53 PM

The Pens really need to get Orpik back. Engelland was brutal in game 2 and Despres was just as bad today.

The Malkin line needs to get going too.

  14. Stiller43 - May 5, 2013 at 3:57 PM

When be said you should paint a wall, he was implying with your own blood as you suck on a shotgun.

While i wont say you should die, you certainly should be banned. Lol four teams you root for and none of them are out? Maybe because no series has even played 4 games yet?

    • President Charles Logan - May 5, 2013 at 4:01 PM

lol iggles is so caught up trying to fight back from the beating’s she endures on here , she forgets to even look around at the other games… how sad flyers fans are , kind of the like the team and fanbase everyone around america and can-uh-duh pokes fun at

Dope,, that means one team for each round *

      * if necessary

      • crashtheboards55 - May 5, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Eiggles is just happy to be employed as the flyers fluffer. Its pretty sad that you have to root for 4 teams other than your Flyers to win. Sign of a real fan. You have to root for another team because your team is too busy wanting to be the one of the 8 teams in the playoffs. If giroux were half the player that tavares is they might have finished 9th. Keep coming up with more excuses and bulls*** while the rest if us laugh at your pathetic attempt at being a sports fan.

  15. jdrew506 - May 5, 2013 at 3:57 PM

I don’t think Crosby necessarily took a dive however Iginla should have gotten an embellishment call on the holding call which ended up leading to the 5 on 3. Also when have you ever seen a penalty called on a player sitting on the bench like we did in this game. Cooke got checked and his head went into the bench and he takes a stick to the chin and it leads to a 4 on 4. In 30 years of watching hockey that wa probably the first time that has ever been called. Yet the Islanders keep coming back and out working the penguins. I will not go as far as to say the Islanders are going to win this series but its definitely not going to be as easy as most of you penguin fans thought it would be.

    • yeahboys - May 5, 2013 at 4:52 PM

Isles are a fantastic first round opponent for the Pens. They’re the reason why Cup hockey is so special. Problem is, last year was the Cinderella Season of all-time, so I don’t think the hockey gods have it in the cards to overlook the best team two years in a row.

No, I’m afraid that even if Isles do pull off an upset of the Pens, their luck/maturity/skill level wouldn’t be enough to carry them a whole lot further. And we all know how bad it sucks when a David beats Goliath and then peters out in the next round or two.

Give me the Hawks vs. Pens!!!

Kane and the Kid. Seven games. The NHL needs this final matchup badly after a year like this…

  16. killerpgh - May 5, 2013 at 4:00 PM

Got to love the playoffs. Nothing better than a OT game. The Pens a lucky to be up 2 games to 1. But in the end the only thing that matters is which team gets the win.

  17. pitpenguinsrulez - May 5, 2013 at 4:02 PM

What would we do without Eiggles on ProHockeytalk! Eiggles just loves penguin articles.

Sloppy game by the Pens and yet another lead blown by the Pens. We must fix it soon preferably by game 4. Despres looked awful in this one. He’s the main reason for the 2nd Islander goal. The first goal was another softy by Fleury. This team needs to start playing a FULL 60 minute game.

    • 19to77 - May 5, 2013 at 8:10 PM

Flower managed to practically score on himself three times in the last game, plus another weak one tonight. I’m a little worried about him.

Still. That’s exactly why they went out and got another starter as their backup. Insurance policy.

  18. mydadyourmom - May 5, 2013 at 4:04 PM

Wow you guys get yourself really worked up about this eiggles dude. Fairly embarrassing. As for the game, an atrocious call for an OT playoff game. Way she goes.

  19. 19to77 - May 5, 2013 at 4:06 PM

Right, well, if anyone wants to talk actual hockey instead of insulting each other, the Isles are showing sweet jam in this series. The Pens are getting outshot and outhit and the Isles are definitely showing that they can’t be considered an easy win even by the powerhouse Penguins. Three power play goals tonight for the Pens – one wonders what they’d do if the Isles reined in the penalties a little. Pens are the better team, but damn, these Isles show up and give it hard nightly. Gonna be sweet watching them in the next few years.

    • therealdeal18 - May 5, 2013 at 4:16 PM

I agree the Pens have obviously been out played these last two games, but if they’re getting out played and still have a 2-1 series lead then I’m going to chalk it up as the Islanders doing things extremely well these last two games than the Pens being awful. Plus with the impending return of Orpik (which I think is key) and Neal I only see things getting better for the Pens, not worse. Call me optimistic.

      • 19to77 - May 5, 2013 at 7:20 PM

Oh, I don’t doubt the Pens will win. Orpik rounds out their D and brings a lot of physical grit and blocked shots to the team, which judging by the Isles’ shot counts, they really need. I know the Pens are the better team in the end, but their performance against these guys makes me wonder how they’d handle, say, Chicago in a theoretical SCF matchup. There are some question marks around their D right now, but no need to panic at all.

  20. helladonks - May 5, 2013 at 4:07 PM

eiggles’ “4 possible teams to root for” are whoever ends up playing the Pens. Poor gal, must be downright depressing this time of year in philthy.

  21. modellforprez - May 5, 2013 at 4:08 PM

Had no clue isles fans were just as obnoxious and stupid as flyer fans. at least the isles have a known history. but they think cause those teams in 75 82 93 are anything like 13 your crazy. you bums stole one game cause pens fell asleep that wont happen again. this game was all the isles to take and they failed. we got this pens in 5

    • jdrew506 - May 5, 2013 at 4:31 PM

Actually its comments like this that are obnoxious and stupid……..Just keep looking past the Islanders and see what happens. The Islanders have out worked and out hit the Penguins in the last 2 games…..You are acting like the Penguins have dominated the Islanders in this series and that is just not the case…..The Islanders were down 2 goals in game 2 and came back to win and they were down 2 goals today and came back and tied the game….You would think it would be easy for a team that was #1 against the #8 seed especially one as stacked as the Penguins but its not that easy….Once again i am not predicting the Islanders win this series but will not be suprised if this series goes the full 7 games.

    • handsofsweed - May 5, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Actually, the only d-bag on here is a Philly fan. The Isles fans have been pretty cool so far.

  22. sjsharks66 - May 5, 2013 at 4:09 PM

SLOPPY win for the pens. Thats how you win the cup though. With dirty goals and luck.

    • yeahboys - May 5, 2013 at 5:09 PM

Yes, that’s true. A Cup hasn’t been won yet by a team that didn’t have some luck. Not sure what “dirty goal” means (Pens haven’t had an “ugly” goal yet, and we know that can’t be said for the Isles). Lucky board bounces get old in the end. Nabakov’s a very lucky man given how many shots have buzzed by him and through him so far…
I love the Isles showing up to play. This is the NHL, that’s what these guys get paid to do. Cup hockey is a whole new season. I’m not sure I’ve read ANYWHERE that Bylsma, or ANY player has underestimated this first-round opponent. I can see Pens haters creeping out of the woodwork if they’d been shooting off their mouths or displaying other arrogance, but I just don’t see the evidence that they were underestimating this opponent. Again, this the Cup hockey and the Isles are a proud franchise. It’s not like they don’t have some top-tier talent themselves…

  23. therealdeal18 - May 5, 2013 at 4:10 PM

Anyone else think letang played poorly? He had three or four occasions where he couldn’t get the puck out of his own zone and it was only him and a defender and he constantly hit the defenders stick, also he could have kept two or three pucks in the offensive zone, I think the Islanders physical game is getting to him.

We need Orpik back so he and Murray can clear the net. Despres isn’t ready for playoff hockey it looks like and I would start Orpik Murray Letang Martin Engelland and Eaton going forward to go defensive heavy so Orpik Murray and Engelland can provide the physical presence down low and block some shots, wayyyy to many islanders shots are getting through.

    • miketoasty - May 5, 2013 at 4:34 PM

Should be interesting to see what they do with Niskanen, easily one of his worst games yet, and should probably be benched next game but we all know Bylsma doesn’t work that way with his big time minute eaters.

    • crashtheboards55 - May 5, 2013 at 5:40 PM

Letang was terrible today. Niskanen too. Letang’s whatever you want to call that on the pp was awful. Morrow’s blind pass was just terrible. The trouble is the Pens are being outcoached outworked and outplayed other than Crosby cooke sutter and adams. The Islanders have taken it to the Pens in everyway possible. Bylsma refuses or can’t make any adjustments other than putting crosby and malkin together. There is no need for a team like them to be outworked. Hard work beats talent anytime and the Islanders are proving it. Pens need to get their heads out of their asses.

I thought niskanen had by far the worst game. Mutilple turnovers and he gave it right to graber for, I believe, NYs 3rd goal.

  25. jdrew506 - May 5, 2013 at 4:18 PM

Why is it when anyone says anything constructive against Crosby or the penguins they are haters?

    • yeahboys - May 5, 2013 at 5:31 PM

My bad. Not referring to you as a hater. But it’s interesting how quickly fans judge a team as “underestimating” an opponent when there’s no indication anywhere that Pittsburgh downplayed this Islander team. I heard of no trash talking or keeping Crosby out of this series to protect him. After a 5-0 opener, he’s in there scrapping. Not sure how that’s evidence of an organization not respecting its opponent?

Now, some FANS might have done that, but don’t come down on the Penguins because they aren’t systematically destroying opponents night after night. This is The Cup, as hockey fans know. A whole new season. Everyone pulling on an Isles sweater is a professional with an organization that takes this tournament seriously.

Bottom line, Pens now have regained control of the series. It’s been harder than the cake-walk SOME had imagined, but I think true fans know how incredibly difficult it is, regardless of seeding, to win the Stanley Cup (and how many time’s a team has squeezed by an 8th seed and still won the title). Pens are fortunate to have an incredibly worthy opponent in round 1. They’ll be better for it. Also goes to show how strong the Atlantic Division is. The challenge for this group of players, given its embarrassment of riches, is keep playing as a team and not have individuals trying to be superstars on every shift with high-risk play. Some very risky passes being thrown around there this afternoon..

The translation of people make fun of the pens and pens fans is ‘See! You guys aren’t far and away the best!’ Ouch

  27. helladonks - May 5, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Came here expecting a “pens suck, Crosby blows dudes” thread. It’s more of “lol @ eiggles” thread. This thread is good.

  28. joewilliesshnoz - May 5, 2013 at 4:31 PM

    Hahahaha !

  29. steelers88 - May 5, 2013 at 4:38 PM

Eiggles why don’t you comment on your team? Oh wait your team is on the golf course! I just find it funny that a person who’s team is out of the playoffs is making fun of a team currently in the playoffs.

    • crashtheboards55 - May 5, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Eiggles check out progolftalk. Lots of flyers scorecards on their since 1975.

  30. cspsrbums - May 5, 2013 at 4:41 PM

I am neither a fan of Pens or isles but the Call in OT was horrible you don’t call that play in a normal came much less a OT playoff game. The Refs have had impact on almost all Ot playoffs this year they are piss poor and the NHL needs to fix it.

  31. cspsrbums - May 5, 2013 at 4:45 PM

ThePens won’t go far their D is horrible and Fluery really what a bum

  32. cspsrbums - May 5, 2013 at 4:56 PM

They can play next year outside they both will be watching by the end of this thing

  33. cspsrbums - May 5, 2013 at 4:58 PM

Also the hawks would kill Pitt. Pitt has no D and no goalie

    • handsofsweed - May 5, 2013 at 6:46 PM

They should probably just worry about Minnesota.

  34. ironcitydonnieiris - May 5, 2013 at 6:12 PM

Another game over and better watching than a 5-0 win. I never take any playoff game lightly, whether my team has a 1 seed or an 8. Teams are seeded and both have a 0-0 record to start the second part of the season, the playoffs.
Pens have been struggling to find their groove. Letang struggled clearing from the zone with turn overs and many players struggled with connecting passes all over the ice. I wonder how much line shifts have been a play in this, bringing Sid back in. A month without being out there might have player location on the ice a little off causing the passing troubles.
Happy to see Sid out there working hard and not being too cautious or worried about injury.
I have to say, the OT call was a tough call in OT. But when a player skates some circles near the boards and put another few moves on going to the net with a defender just drifting behind with hands draped over the shoulder, the call is gonna be made.
I, as any pens fan, have some rose tint to my glasses on any call. Just any other fan of any other team will have some rose on their glasses. Calls are a part of the game and its playoff hockey.
Hope the Pens pick up their play a bit. It’s playoffs, and a win is a win in regulation or OT. The Isles are definitely playing like they want the cup, and it is making for some entertaining hockey.
As for those real hockey fans, enjoy some great playoff hockey and don’t stoop to jumping on a bandwagon (or 4), just because your team isn’t in it. Enjoy the game for what it is, and support it because you are a true fan. (I personally would be embarrassed to cheer for another team and pretend to be their biggest fan, knowing that I have broken my alligence and dishonor my own team. I wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror)

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 7:04 PM

If your taking a shot a me you long winded d bag Iam a PHILADELPHIA FLYERS fan not a fan of any other team or 4 ! I’ll put it in simple terms Iam rooting against the team from pittsburgh so if that means Iam a fan of another team or 4 in your simple mind thats your problem ! Sack up nobody likes your organization they have been rewarded by the NHL for their failures on more than one occasion which helped propel them to their success and were a point topic during the 2005 (NO season ) season collective agreement and a big reason why there was no season ! Owners of other teams looked at them as the trash bag of the league ! If the truth is know behind close doors the NHL most likely is the majority owners ! So don’t ever question my support of the game you stupid yinzer !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 7:10 PM

In other words they were bailed out by the other fine owners in the leagues for their failures ! Great owners like Ed Snyder ! Now,, other owners have to watch your bailed out team win ot games in the playoffs on bogus calls you no nothing bankrupt dbag yinzer !

      • crashtheboards55 - May 5, 2013 at 7:32 PM

I will question your knowledge and support of everything. So how did the other owners of the league go about bailing the pens out? How was all this managed behind closed doors? Every other team in the league looks at them as a garbage bag? What are your facts to back it up? Actually dumbass Ed Snider was a big part of getting the Pens out of debt created by owners and politcians that had no clue about running a professional sports franchise. Another pointless and groundless bit of wasted typing done by you. Keep doing it though becuase Your mom and I keep laughing our asses off at you. She should have flushed you down the toilet before you grew into a bigger pile of sh*t.

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 7:55 PM

You can question my knowledge and support all you want dbag ! The truth is the league should have put your trash bag of an organization on the curb years ago you stupid yinzer !

  35. navyeoddavee9 - May 5, 2013 at 6:52 PM

eiggles: u r right, Pens are struggling against the Isles, but it’s the playoffs, plus if I remember last years playoffs, every team
that played the Kings, lost. The Kings being the 8th seed. flyers are what seed.

  36. whammy71 - May 5, 2013 at 7:51 PM

Pens won – that’s all that matters. This ain’t NCAA football – no need for style points.

But they better play with more urgency or there could be trouble down the road.

Flyers still suck…and so do their fans, cheesesteaks (Geno’s) and the city in general. Went to a great wedding this weekend…too bad it was in a NYC wanna-be city where 95% of the people were pricks. WHAMMY!!!!

  37. crashtheboards55 - May 5, 2013 at 8:22 PM

Eiggles. Is that the best you can do? Again why should the league put this “trash organization to the curb a long time ago?” I am still waiting for all of these facts that you have. I don’t have to question anything. Your pointless rants about absolutely nothing are all the evidence anyone on here needs to see what a complete embarrassment you are to the human race. Stupid yinzer? Wow. Groundbreaking. Keep trying though.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 9:02 PM

The Pens coach Lou Angoti actually admitted to tanking the season the year mario came out,, now thats a dirty trash bag organization you stupid yinzer !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 9:12 PM

Here’s since your into facts Ed Snider never had to give up any ownership percentage to a player because he could not afford to pay him you stupid yinzer

      • crashtheboards55 - May 5, 2013 at 9:14 PM

Here we go. Bobby clarke is still crying about it. Angotti said that to piss Clarke off you moron. Wow are you dumb. Is that seriously all you have? A crybaby’s sob story about a team supposedly tanking a season in order to take Lemieux? You are such an epic fail.

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 9:16 PM

Dbag it did not piss Bobby Clarke off it had nothing to do with Bobby Clarke the team from jersey actually filed charges with the league because of it ! I got a ton of facts to prove your organization is a philthy trash bag you stupid yinzer !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 9:18 PM

They tanked a season to get a player they could not afford hahahhahahaah kind of like your mortgage your stupid yinzer !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 9:20 PM

Did they go bankrupt like 2 or 3 times to piss bobby clarke off too you stupid yinzer !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 9:33 PM

Fact: The greatest player in franchise history had to file suit against the team he dedicated all his hard work too did he do that to piss bobby clarke off too ! Now thats a dirty trash bag organization you stupid yinzer ! You want more let me know and these are the easy ones !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 10:47 PM

Heres another known slamdunk fact dbag ! At the end of the 2005 lockout a new plan was derived by the NHL for the order of the draft it was called the NHL draft lottery ! Low and behold it was held behind closed doors and bingo,,, you guessed it. thats how your trash bag organization secured the number one pick SID CROSBY their second first overall pick in three years ! So please yinzer when I refer to your organization as philthy trash bags you should just shutttttttttttttttie you stupid yinzer !

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 9:09 PM

In other words they tanked a season for a star they could not afford you stupid yinzer !

  40. helladonks - May 5, 2013 at 9:41 PM

Pls go focus on that diva back up qb your joke of a football team has.
And I’m talking about Geno Smith, not Mark Sanchez

  41. crashtheboards55 - May 5, 2013 at 10:21 PM

Wow. 1 little artticle about a team that claimed the Pens tanked? Where are the facts to support that? Where is the proof sherlock? So Mario waives his contract to take over the team. Beautiful move financially and professionally. Files suit against the City and the state to get the funding for a new arena. Again you have the wrong facts. He never sued the team. He would have been suing himself. That makes a ton of sense. You still don’t have any facts. They went bankrupt once bc Howard Baldwin knew more about movies and bad investments than he did about hockey. A lot of owners hated him because the NHL had a bad reputation of letting teams get bought my idiots with money and no sense. So again, come up with something, or anything that is close to the truth. Stupid yinzer. Hahaha. Great line about my mortgage too. Really got me there. Bobby Clarke is still mad about it. Accused the Pens of everything under the sun including JFK assassination, global warming and the great stock market crash. You know shi@ about absolutely nothing.

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 10:54 PM

D BAG Maybe you heard of it The Pittsburgh Post Gazette you stupid yinzer ! See now I know your a fgiggin fraud because these are all facts which you ask for mind you and you can’t handle the truth you stupid yinzer ! And no mario would have not sued himself he is not a stupid yinzer like yourself ,,that was a good one you dumb f##k !

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 10:56 PM

Another fact dbag you said they had one bankruptcy well well well heres another fact since since your looking for them they filed for chapter 11 protection 2 times just like you you stupid yinzer !

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - May 5, 2013 at 10:59 PM

Please stop posting your making a fool of yourself if this was a fight it would have been stopped !

  42. billmiller3 - May 6, 2013 at 12:14 AM

I can take Jeremy Roenick saying a penalty call is “soft”. After all he played hard and has been consistent through his whole career. But Mike Milbury calling a penalty “soft” show what a hypocrite he really is. Isn’t Milbury the guy who, as coach of the Bruins in the 1991 Prince of Wales Championship series, constantly whined about the physical play of the Penguins? And in the process, he called one of the classiest coaches in NHL history – Badger Bob Johnson – “the professor of goonism”. Which way is it Mikey Baby?

  43. boisehockeyref - May 6, 2013 at 8:24 PM

It’s aboit time the league follows throuhh on embellishment…Sorry to say but The Kid is the worst about it..but superstar status supercedes reailism. Nut up league and stop this foolishness.
