Sabres general manager Darcy Regier says a decision on Ron Rolston’s future as head coach in Buffalo will be made “fairly soon.”

“No decisions yet,” Regier said today, per the Buffalo News. “Fairly soon in the case of the head coach in Buffalo, and then Rochester will follow. Those are conversations we’re going to have.”

Rolston — who started the season as head coach of the Sabres’ AHL team in Rochester — was named interim head coach in Buffalo after longtime bench boss Lindy Ruff was fired in February. In 36 games, Rolston led the Sabres to a 15-11-5 record (including an 8-4-0 finish).

“When you look at the body of work that he and the staff did…they did a very good job for us,” Regier said recently on Buffalo radio. “Ron is a good teacher who is very prepared. He has very strong feelings about what you have to do as an organization in order to win.  So yes absolutely he is going to be considered.”

    I hear Ruff is available.

Does anybody really think Regier/Black would do anything earth shattering like actually hire a strong coach? No doubt Rolston has this locked up.
Probably for the best though. That way when Pegula gets sick of hearing everyone booing the team constantly next fall maybe he will come to his senses and fire Regier. It will then be easier for a new GM to get rid of Rolston right away as he is Regiers guy.
