Vancouver’s Sedin plays one 22-second shift to extend ironman streak

The last time Henrik Sedin missed an NHL game was during the 2003-04 season.

So, no surprise he didn’t want to miss one just to get a rest.

That’s why Sedin played all of one shift on Saturday against Edmonton — 22 seconds in all — before retiring to the dressing room for the evening.

The move kept his ironman streak alive, at 629 games, trailing only Jay Bouwmeester for the NHL’s active consecutive games streak.

(Bouwmeester’s sits at 634, with an asterisk: Because he was traded from Calgary to St. Louis after the Blues’ Apr. 1 game had started — and before the puck dropped Edmonton for Flames-Oilers — his streak remained intact, even though he “missed” a game.)

The Canucks came into the contest with nothing to play for, having already wrapped up the Northwest Division title and third overall seed in the Western Conference.

As such, there was some talk heading into the game that Sedin would be held out of the lineup entirely.
