Tuesday, April 30 @ 8 p.m. / Los Angeles at St. Louis CNBC, CBC

ON THE EVE OF BATTLE …

    * a conversation recently overheard between Blue’s players David Backes and Alexander Steen *

“Alex, you know whats going to happen here in the morning? The whole damn Kings army is going to be here. They’ll move through this town, occupy these hills on the other side and when our people get here they’ll will have the high ground. There will be the devil to pay! The high ground! Hitchcock will come in slowly, cautiously. They’ll be on his back in Saint Louis, wire hot with messages ‘Attack! Attack!’. So he’ll set up a ring around these hills. And then when the Kings are nicely entrenched behind fat rocks on the high ground, Hitchcock will finally attack, if he can coordinate the team. Straight up the hillside, out in the open, in that gorgeous field of fire. We will charge valiantly and be butchered valiantly! And afterwards men in tall hats and gold watch fobs will thump their chest and say what a brave charge it was. Alex, I’ve led a hockey player’s life and I’ve never seen anything as brutally clear as this … David Backes.

Executive Summary: the Kings in 5, max :)

    • windmiller4 - Apr 29, 2013 at 2:44 AM

Dude what kinda drugs are you on?

      • jpelle82 - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:01 PM

i think he’s got a little touch of aspergers syndrome

    • stevedurbano - Apr 29, 2013 at 6:39 AM

And Quick will turn to Sutter and say that he feels like the Blues are rolling rocks at him. Then Sutter will turn to him and say “I have no team”.

      150th anniversary this year.

      • blomfeld - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:41 PM

I don’t think so … unlike General ‘Sam’ Hood’s foolhardy assault straight up Little Roundtop, I can instead see our Kings ‘moving to the right’ and destroying the Blues with a ‘thunderous’ blow from behind.

ps: thanks for the heads up … maybe I’ll finally make it there this year for the 150th anniversary ? :)

      • jpelle82 - Apr 29, 2013 at 4:20 PM

blomfeld…i live 1.5 miles from chancellorsville and am excited for this weekend’s 150th festivities but man i find it hard to compare the maiming and death of thousands americans to men playing a game and getting paid millions of dollars to do it.

by the way if ewell had just followed orders and attacked cemetary hill the first day then hood wouldnt have been in the position to have his men charge from devil’s den up little round top – lee wouldve taken both round tops and we would be talking about another decisive battle for the confederates instead of the union’s tide changing victory at gettysburg.

      • jpelle82 - Apr 29, 2013 at 4:32 PM

i drive east up state rt 3 at dawn everyday toward fredericksburg on my way to work. i see the fog lifting over the cannons and i tip my hat to the monument at the site of stonewall jackson’s wounding at chancellorsville. i have never been reminded of playoff hockey though….until tomorrow morning i’m sure.

      • blomfeld - Apr 29, 2013 at 8:22 PM

Blomfeld: who is this lone rider before us ?

Ten Bears: maybe one of the soldiers from the fort ?

Crazy Dog: well he’s all alone … let’s kill him right now !

Blomfeld: no brothers … his words echo with good … we will talk to him …

Jpelle82 – Very nice posts friend and very interesting to read. Of course my rants here at PHT are usually based on the premise of “good times” and nothing more. However your observations on the suffering and sacrifices from that time are well noted. In my opinion, the most tragic thing today is when people simply fail to remember or conscientiously choose to forget …

ps: yes indeed, Ewell’s failure to act on day one, probably set the dye for what ultimately transpired there at Gettysburg 150 years ago … but truth be known, the South could have never prevailed militarily over the North … at least not in the long term

    • stoneegratz - Apr 29, 2013 at 2:15 PM

The executive summary comes before the body….duh.

  4. thewaytonever - Apr 29, 2013 at 3:28 AM

  6. kaptaanamerica - Apr 29, 2013 at 4:46 AM

I hope backes beats the shiite out of brown.

    • gooterbaby - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:25 AM

Oh I LIKE THAT! Too bad the only thing Brown throws is elbows and not fist cause he would get wrecked.

  7. eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 29, 2013 at 6:18 AM

Will the pens coach get fired for getting knocked out of the first round for the second year in a row

    • 19to77 - Apr 29, 2013 at 4:01 PM

      Ha. Ha ha. Hahahahaha.

      Enjoy your golf season, Philadelphia.

  8. jaybaileys - Apr 29, 2013 at 8:43 AM

Will every pharmaceutical company be required to send large shipments of anti-depression drugs to Philadelphia if the Pens win another Cup?

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 29, 2013 at 10:16 AM

      No cup for you

      • jaybaileys - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:29 PM

        Nor for the Flyers bro!

  9. babykaby - Apr 29, 2013 at 9:02 AM

This can’t be right. They have Ottowa/Montreal playing back-to-backs to open the series. Doesn’t anyone check their work anymore?

    • johnthebiscuit - Apr 29, 2013 at 9:12 AM

Check your facts, moron. Back-to-back games is correct.

  10. squawkbert - Apr 29, 2013 at 2:19 PM

A *real* professional league would have all of its playoff games on the same channel throughout a series. Alas in St.Louis, we get to play “What channel is it on tonight/do we even get that channel?”.

Sucks to be the NHL (or Formula 1) when a network with poor saturation in the minor markets (that make up a major portion of potential viewers) is eroding your fanbase. Hope they paid lots, because they are not making sure everyone can see your product.

  11. proudliberal85392 - Apr 29, 2013 at 3:07 PM

You won this round, Blomfeld, but my Yotes will be back to engage you yet again in the Battle of I-10!

    • blomfeld - Apr 29, 2013 at 8:28 PM

friend … your people should “fall in” with us Kings right now … we’re heading back to the high ground and I swear to you that we’s a gonna whop ‘em real good ! :)

  12. theclaim - Apr 29, 2013 at 3:29 PM

Rock the Red! Let’s go CAPS!

  13. imleftcoast - Apr 29, 2013 at 4:06 PM

I love this TV schedule, especially with the CBC not showing the Canucks/Sharks series.

  14. thehighcountrybear - Apr 29, 2013 at 6:25 PM

    jpelle82:

    Nice post…

As I can recall from the Ken Burns series, Jackson was inadvertently shot by confederate pickets, only to die from complications in following days? War is never without irony…

Great general, ranked only behind Lee…

Were I coaching in these playoffs, I’d remember the lessons from ‘Antietam’…win the first game, then crush ‘em at every turn before they can regroup!

    • blomfeld - Apr 29, 2013 at 8:36 PM

“Never mind the maneuvers, just go straight at ‘em!” …

Highcountrybear – And if I were to be coaching the King’s, then that famous quote by Lord Nelson would be my battle cry ! :)

      Nelson Touch:
Traditionally a sea battle would be fought with the two opposing fleets drawing themselves up to form two lines of battle. This tactic did not favor what was perceived to be the faster, more accurate gunnery of the Royal Navy and would often bring about indecisive results, usually with the enemy escaping. Nelson’s idea was to quickly bring about a melee in which due to superior gunnery, the British would have a distinct advantage.
