Oilers thumping Wild, crowd getting frustrated

Apr 26, 2013, 9:51 PM EDT

The Minnesota Wild need only two points to capture a playoff spot.

It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen Friday. The Wild, playing in front of their home fans, are losing 6-0 to the Edmonton Oilers after two periods.

Niklas Backstrom allowed three goals on five shots and back-up Josh Harding hasn’t done any better, allowing three goals on nine shots. The Wild’s disappointing performance against the Oilers has also drawn the ire of the Minnesota fans.

The Wild are currently eighth in the Western Conference with 53 points, tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets for that final playoff spot. The Red Wings are one point ahead of both teams.

The Wild close out the season on the road against the Colorado Avalanche – currently last in the West standings – on Saturday.

As much as this sucks, I LOVE seeing MN sports fans get angry like this, just shows you how hungry this place is for high level hockey.

that would be funny if wild miss the playoffs.

    • rsmaggiemae - Apr 26, 2013 at 11:59 PM

Just why would it be so funny if the Wild dont make the playoffs????
Do you mock the other teams who dont make it either?????
If teams dont make it to the playoffs its not funny at all, as many of the players give 110 percent each game, but in most instances dont get much help from other players, I feel empathy for the teams who dont make it..

Ya the players and their crazy math … giving 110 % every game! Probably won’t rest until they get 110 % of league revenue. No wonder Bettman has to shut ‘er down every few years or so …

Saturday is going to be very fun to watch, all 3 important games on at the same time ( Detroit, Columbus, and Minnesota )

yea, nbc is torturing hockey fans across the country with rangers vs devils.

I chuckled at this, but I think NJ/NYR is at 3 then they’re showing DET/DAL at 7 actually.

Now those jerseys aren’t half bad…

Enough with getting unhinged Minny, you don’t wanna leave it all on the ice tonight?

    Avalanche smell blood…

backstrom is complete GARBAGE! Yeo you should of started Kemp’s earlier in season! damn it!

  6. earpaniac - Apr 26, 2013 at 11:00 PM

Geez, if they miss the playoffs….
It seems like just yesterday they were on that hot streak and were nipping at the ‘Nucks heels! What the heck happened to them?!

    • barkar942 - Apr 27, 2013 at 12:19 PM

Maybe they ran out of the $200 million they spent.

Sabre’s own their first round pick, hoping they miss the playoffs so we have a couple of shots in the draft lottery!

Yeo must go….. and the team, the Wild needs to be revamped…. two huge dollar players dont make a team, and you cant expect one line to play 60 minutes every game..
we need a coach like Herb Brooks, who would get the most out of every player at every positon for every game possible… we need some fire behind that bench.. and I dont see it at all.
They say Yeo is very detailed, maybe too much just play KISS hockey and that should do the trick…,
As a paying fan, I am saddened to see 6-8 players give 110 percent every game while the others just skate for fun …. just so they get thier salary every day.
Thier incentive should be to think of how much they get paid per day compared to the average working person, as the lower paid players make more in 4-5 days than most people in a year, thats what so sad…..its just so sad … I knew that getting the two big players in July was not enough help for the Wild. they need 2 more PMD’S that can score goals and get the puck out of thier end… they always play catch up hockey …
I am really getting tired of all excuses that the coach and team makes all the time and the local papers and reporters as all the other teams go through the same thing as the Wild and they play thier hearts out.. but the Wild just cant do that game after game…
That is why I dd not renew my season tickets or get tickets for playoffs if they ever make it there.

    • ialtoguy - Apr 27, 2013 at 12:58 AM

Yeo must go? last time I checked the coach has nothing to do with a goaltender that has a save percentage of 40%. The Wild out shot the Oilers 39 to 17, which might make your argument about needing more true goal scoring players valid but to say players are skating for fun, not to sure about that. What would firing Yeo solve anyway?

      you are a massive tool.

“we need a coach like Herb Brooks”

Herb Brooks had a losing record in all three pro leagues which he coached: NHL (.497 win %), AHL (.463) and Swiss A (.411). As a Wild fan and a lifelong Minnesotan, I feel compelled to mention the fact that his disasterous stint with the North Stars in ’87-’88 is the only reason his NHL record is below .500.

        ZING!

  9. profsudz - Apr 27, 2013 at 12:22 AM

As a Wild fan, I hope they don’t make it to the playoffs

    • cusoman - Apr 27, 2013 at 10:04 AM

You’re not a Wild fan then.

      • profsudz - Apr 27, 2013 at 11:54 AM

Yeah, you’re right. Getting smoked in 4 by Chicago will be a hoot, you’ve convinced me

    rsmaggiemae:

Nice post…from the heart! They’re not out yet, and play on the season has shown promise of good things to come!

Tonight may be what Wild needed. Should they get in, they’ll be a terror…I wouldn’t want to see these guys if they get rolling again.

Seems like things went pear-shaped when Heatley went down…

    • lostpuppysyndrome - Apr 27, 2013 at 11:31 AM

Nope, the fire went out when Cullen got injured. Their 2nd line took pressure off the 1st line but Cullen tied it all together. Heatley is a $7.5mil 3rd liner with a big slapshot. He’s good but he isn’t what made the team click when they were on their hot streaks.
