Video: The curse of the Presidents’ Trophy?

Apr 25, 2013, 8:24 PM EDT

Home ice advantage is a great thing, but being a favorite in any sport – let alone one with as many lucky bounces and breaks as hockey – can be as much of a burden as it is a blessing. The Chicago Blackhawks clinched the 2013 Presidents’ Trophy on Wednesday, prompting Keith Jones and Jeremy Roenick to ponder the possibility of a “curse” in the video below:

I remember the sharks winning it in 09 and getting bounced by the Ducks in the first round, ouch that hurt

same here bud, except for me it was the canucks loss to LA last year. that said, I’m still surprised the canucks got it last year and honestly it’s pretty hard for me to see Chicago losing against Detroit or Columbus.

Never count the Wings out. They are playing well and no one wants to see them as your first round match up.

        Agreed ;)

Surprisingly, or maybe not given they style they play, but Columbus seemed to be tougher opponents this year than the Wings. May not have reflected in the outcome, but even before they turned it around they were gritty games.

Nobody’ll be talking about curses by the time these playoffs are over.

One word for all Blackhawks fans who don’t believe in curses:

    Bartman

    • r8rbhawk - Apr 25, 2013 at 10:07 PM

Those of us that are White Sox fans don’t believe in curses, we just know the the Cubs suck.

Bartman didn’t make an error at short after that foul ball, or blow a lead.

Anyone who uses Bartman is out-of-town stupid–or in-town stupid.

If nobody had ever won the President’s Trophy and made the Finals, I’d wonder what factors might be in play, but 10 PT winners have gone to the Finals, 7 of them winning the Stanley Cup. So I’d look at the teams that fell short and see if they were worn out by their regular season or if they just weren’t well suited for a playoff run or ran into injuries or a hot goalie or a good opponent with good scouts. Easter Bunny, tooth fairy and hexes are in the same category.

I’m still curious to see how tight the refs are going to call interference and obstruction. If they swallow their whistles, all bets are off.

    • steverolley - Apr 26, 2013 at 3:25 PM

you know the whistles are going away

its trap time!!!! Ready for some high scoring 2 – 1 games?!!!

Why is this a discussion? There’s 16 teams in the playoffs and anybody can win, it’s not really surprising that the odds of the first place team winning the cup isn’t that high.
