‘Lower-body’ injury for Blackhawks’ Emery against Oilers

Apr 24, 2013, 10:44 PM EDT

Chicago Blackhawks goalie Ray Emery has left Wednesday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers with a lower body injury, and will not return, as per a tweet from the team’s official Twitter account.

Emery started the game and got 13 minutes and 49 seconds into the first period before leaving with the injury. He allowed one goal on eight shots.

The 30-year-old puck stopper is enjoying an impressive year with the Blackhawks, as they hunt down a Presidents’ Trophy as the NHL’s best regular season team. He has a record of 16 wins and just one regulation loss in 20 games. He also has a goals-against average of 1.91.

Corey Crawford came into the game for Emery. The Blackhawks held a 2-1 lead after the opening period.

Update: Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune tweeted out: “Joel Quenneville said Ray Emery’s lower-body injury is not serious and goaltender is ‘day-to-day.’”
