Lightning’s St. Louis takes over NHL scoring lead

Apr 24, 2013, 9:47 PM EDT

Martin St. Louis recorded the hat trick Wednesday, as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the playoff-bound Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 5-2.

And with that, St. Louis, who turns 38 years of age on June 18 and is listed at 5’8″ tall, now leads the National Hockey League in scoring.

St. Louis is now up to 16 goals and a league-leading 58 points on the season. In that statistical category, he surpasses Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby, who hasn’t played since suffering a broken jaw on March 30 against the New York Islanders.

Steven Stamkos, who recorded a goal and assist Wednesday against the Leafs, moves into a tie with Crosby at 56 points.
