Video: Dustin Brown elbows Jason Pominville

Apr 23, 2013, 9:48 PM EDT

Last night, Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown delivered a controversial hit on Dallas Stars winger Antoine Roussel. One day later on Tuesday, he left Minnesota Wild advocates fuming after this elbow on Jason Pominville:

There’s little question that the elbow will draw debate – which didn’t draw a penalty – but it’s interesting to note that the Kings already clinched a playoff spot.

Will the league be more willing to hand out a suspension (if it deems one reasonable, of course) to a player whose team isn’t playing games that are quite as important? We’ll see.

That was a nice elbow !

  2. puffdragon420 - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:06 PM

very dangerous elbow to the head and Pominville reportedly has a concussion. My guess is at least 2 game suspension.

  3. sjsharks66 - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:07 PM

Dustin brown gets away with too much. 4 games. Throw in the headshot 2 days ago.

    • pacificwes - Apr 24, 2013 at 2:06 AM

throw your “headshot 2 days ago” malfeasant fantasy in the toilet. the hit on Roussel was Brown’s shoulder to Roussel’s hand. Roussel had his stick raised and when Brown hit Roussel’s hand near the but end of his stick, his other hand became a fulcrum and Roussel’s own stick then smacked his helmet. there was no headshot in the incident you are referring to.

  4. gooterbaby - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:12 PM

Are Cooke and Brown related somehow?

    • nhloon - Apr 24, 2013 at 11:05 AM

I don’t know man, Pomminville has to be aware, elbow is an elbow, for sure Brown threw one. But seriously, Pominville needs to grow a pair and hit, not be hit.

  5. 19to77 - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:18 PM

Didn’t look up, didn’t angle towards him, didn’t really broadcast what was coming in any way before the hit. Obviously dirty from the replay, but I definitely see how the linesmen could have mistaken that for incidental in real time.

  6. thehighcountrybear - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:30 PM

Pominville came to Browm, Brown’s elbow was already up when he turned to step-in to the coming hit…classic defensive maneuver by Brown!

Concussion will bring scrutiny…any suspension would not carry into playoffs.

    Two games max if any…

Short turnaround for Kings next game, the gavel will have to fall by tomorrow afternoon?

    • slickvb82 - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:38 PM

You’re either drinking heavily tonight, or a complete moron….I’m going to go with moron.

      • ipaintrinks - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:06 PM

im drinking heavily and i can tell you that was dirty.

      • thehighcountrybear - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:07 PM

In the absence of ability to respond with rational argument, the witless inbred spawn of the Minnesota outback invariably attack the messenger rather than the original article under debate or the substance of material fairly aired in response…

Read closely you knuckle dragging caitiff: wipe your ass, wipe the steaming wad of cum from your ape-like countenance, then get back to your banjo pickin’…

Feel free to return when you prove yourself capable of both reasonable discourse and abilty not to demonstrate to the world at large the impoverished state of your meagre intellect…

      • mp1131211 - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:37 PM

Clearly highcountrybear has proved herself incapable of the reasonable discourse that she demands of others.

Sweety, take a second look at the video. There isn’t any reason to come up with a “rational argument” against what you’ve claimed because you’re simply wrong based on video that we can all see. Brown shifted his weight and threw the elbow. End of story.

    • rolstoncansnipe12 - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:23 PM

All the big words don’t make your idiotic response sound any better, this guys obviously a moron

    • purpleguy - Apr 24, 2013 at 12:14 AM

Highcountrybear must be growing and smoking illicit substances up there in rare air as they read the dictionary looking for big words, as every major hockey media outlet has found the elbow intentional and bush-league. No one is impressed, even us backcountry Minnesotans with graduate degrees, who nonetheless appreciate some good banjo now and then.

    • bman7206 - Apr 24, 2013 at 12:35 AM

      Obviously a complete moron.

  7. gmenfan1982 - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:32 PM

Wow. That was brutal and deliberate. Just like the knee on knee against Phoenix in the playoffs last season.

  8. mp1131211 - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:33 PM

And they win…. as they should have. Horrible officiating!!!

  9. ashtongronholz8 - Apr 23, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Good win. its hard not to complain about the officiating but maybe this is what we needed to toughen up for playoffs and just play through it.

  10. dumbassgreg - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:04 PM

two games in a row cheap shot. guess he getting ready for playoffs. lmao. when people talk about dirty players for some reason very few mention this guy.

  11. rolstoncansnipe12 - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:11 PM

Damn even if they suspend him (which they should) it hurts the wild. We need the kings to win tomorrow against the wings

  12. blomfeld - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:22 PM

I seriously don’t get it? On his own cognizance, some guy called Pominville skates “head first” right into the captain’s elbow of the reigning Stanley Cup champions. I mean really, what was Brown supposed to do there from his stationary position? Hug the guy or something? Regardless, you people would be best served to take this as “official” notice that we Kings have now sounded “general quarters”. Our glorious enterprise has but one goal, and that is to lay waste to the lot of you again! … and God willing, we will …

    • mp1131211 - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:40 PM

I thought you were banned. Did you seriously go about changing your IP address just so you could come back here and post things that no one wants to hear again?

    • woodstakes - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:16 AM

Yup Blom… and if it were Pominville with the puck and his elbow hit “your precious captain” in the mouth I’m betting the words “Pansy Central” wouldn’t be coming out of your mouth!! Take off your silver and black glasses and then take a peek at the video. I’d bet you paychecks that if the roles were reversed you’d be clamoring from the other side of you mouth!

  13. thehighcountrybear - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:23 PM

Next thing on the sparse agendas of Wild supporters, a seemingly extinct species in recent weeks as their over-rated team and off-season signings spiral into well-accustomed oblivion, is the snivelling histrionics concerning officiating…

Someone find these wretches a rag to cry into! Talk about pathetic…what, you thought signing chronic losers like Parise and Suter would alter Wild’s duly appointed fate?

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you…

    • mp1131211 - Apr 23, 2013 at 11:41 PM

Your panties are really bunched up tonight.

    • bman7206 - Apr 24, 2013 at 12:37 AM

      Obviously still a moron…

    • hawkeedawg - Apr 24, 2013 at 12:55 AM

High Country, a Fairy Tale is exactly what happened to the Kings last year, ain’t going to happen again.

You continue to show your complete ignorance about the game of hockey…constantly stating things that only a blind man could see. You have no credibility on this site.

You should watch Darts on TV, nothing controversial happens in the sport and you would fit right in with all of the alcohol that is consumed during matches.

      • woodstakes - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:18 AM

I’m almost positive he/she/it/idiot is a Red Wings fan.

    • woodstakes - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:17 AM

~Waves bye bye to Detroit’s 21 year streak~ & ~gives thehighcountrybear another bag of weed so that he can stay high watching the playoffs without Detroit in it~

  14. slumdog66 - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:28 AM

    Brown is a dirtbag.

  15. butski29 - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:46 AM

I can only say that the video shows that Mr. Brown leaned in with the elbow up. Got to be responsible with the elbow just like the stick. Bottom line. As a soldier, I have been all over the world and the US and I must truly LMFAO when people like the Bear troll on Minnesota. Bet the Bear has never stepped foot here. Typical BS. Don’t let the Bear’s seemingly unique wit get to you. Half of us here have forgotten more about hockey than the Bear would ever hope to know. That is obvious as the Bear can only troll and not discuss the issue at hand. PS. Blomfeld blows and the Kings were a flash in the pan. Nobody repeats anyway. Get ready for the draft dirtbag.

  16. pacificwes - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:53 AM

Pominville’s lining up Brown who has the puck on his stick, and is facing the boards. It’s big boy time, Brown isn’t going to make this easy for Pominville, and in no way should he. The man with the puck is not initiating the situation. Brown is raising his hit-side arm to defend himself and Pominville is leading with his face. I hope Pominville isn’t significantly hurt– but don’t lead with your face when coming after Brown defending the puck. This may be the 1st time the league takes a look at a Brown contact incident, but, in real time, it’s difficult to find anything heinous here, and I expect that’ll be where the dust settles.
    This is hockey.

    • rolstoncansnipe12 - Apr 24, 2013 at 11:32 AM

Are you serious right now? He wasn’t protecting he puck, he skates away from the puck and loses it to throw an elbow in Pominville’s face. You, bear, and blom must be the only one’s that can’t see it.

  17. butski29 - Apr 24, 2013 at 2:03 AM

pacificwes–Even as a Wild fan I agree that there are many times that the league and fans over-react to solid hits and physical play. Weather you agree or not, the rules state that you are responsible for your elbow and your stick at all times. YOU ARE STILL NOT ALLOWED TO THROW, POSITION OR OTHERWISE CONTACT SOMEONE WITH YOUR OWN ELBOW EVEN IF YOU ARE “DEFENDING YOURSELF”. As I have admitted, I am a Wild fan, but I would be the first to point that out if a member of the Wild did that to someone else. I know Brown gets a lot of flack, but he is a rugged player. Frankly, I wish he was on our team, but what he did was wrong, period.

  18. thehighcountrybear - Apr 24, 2013 at 3:14 AM

Unfortunately, the hub for Northwest brings its passengers through Minneapolis. I can say without reservation, having traveled through Minnesota more times than I wish, it is singularly the driest and least interesting state in the US. Its biggest city is a cultural vacuum, boasting more water bed emporiums than art galleries!

I offer this opinion based on a lifetime of travel throughout the US and the world…Minnesota is the living definition of boring, as are its professional teams; themselves product of their very milieu in its human and geographical landscape. Nice people, but…

As for hockey, I have played the game for some fifty four years, played Junior A when it mattered, presently coach and manage two teams including the team I play for in one of our many beer leagues.

I am Canadian. By the age of eight, every Canadian child is better versed in hockey history, principles, technique and is better coached and possessed of pure hockey skill than 99.99 percent of the corresponding population of the United States…get used to it!

When I offer opinion on hockey in this forum, I expect nothing more than hockey related responses rather than the insipid name calling from half-wit pimple ranchers incapable of formulating coherent thought…

These are the same chuckleheads who, having grown-up in an age when the English language has surrendered to a bastardized electronic shorthand passing for communication, are typically possessed of the attention span of gnats! Hence, shorthand responses limited to personal attacks on character and habit underpinned by name calling…

You want to talk hockey, talk hockey…you want to sling mud, prepare to get muddy, real muddy!

    • bethgoesglobal - Apr 24, 2013 at 4:39 AM

OK, so I stopped reading after “played hockey for 55yrs” yada, yada, yada. I’ve read your other stuff. Anyway, I just had to respond to someone who thinks they’ve traveled throughout the US and the world and thinks that MN is the dirtest place they’ve ever been! That may well be one of the most absurd things I’ve ever read on here, EVER! Clearly you haven’t spent anytime on the east coast (NYC, Newark, Philly) or Detroit, Gary, IN, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Memphis- I could go on and on!! And where have you been spending your time abroad? Clearly nowhere in Central America or India and there are plenty of dirty cities in Europe and Africa. I haven’t been to S. America, China, or Russia/ E. Europe so I can’t attest to their cleanliness, but…

I agree, MN is definitely lacking in culture and diversity, but Dirty! You’re either completely full of it or you’ve been traveling with your eyes closed (and nose too; smelly=dirty- Newark/ Gary).

How can anyone take your opinions seriously when you clearly don’t even know what ‘dirty’ means.

    • hawkeedawg - Apr 24, 2013 at 5:09 AM

High Country, please tell me you are not Canadian, because if you are….you are a complete embarrassment to the country and game or hockey.

      I just looked this up
High Country Bear = diarrhea of the mouth, nothing but SH!T comes out!!!

      • blomfeld - Apr 25, 2013 at 1:37 AM

and “you” along with your fellow Liberace’s here are pathetic and miserable insects, who will be crushed under the “righteous” heels of glory … God willing

  19. thehighcountrybear - Apr 24, 2013 at 3:26 AM

Next time you’re out driving, run down a freeway, aim for a bridge abutment with your eyes wide open…

If there’s anything left, tell the state trooper it was the bridge’s responsibility to protect you from your own stupidity…

Ditto Pominville…he’s skates at Brown with his eyes wide open, see the arm and elbow are up, starts bailing before he gets fed his lunch, but gets filled-in as reward for offering-up that unique breed of stupidity guys like Brown feed on!

At what point in your training as a soldier did you forget the lessons about hanging your ass out in a cold wind?

  20. csilojohnson - Apr 24, 2013 at 7:14 AM

There is a whole lot of crazy in here.
Id rather live in Minn then LA any day. LA is the sess pool that represents everything wrong with this world. All wrapped up in a huge overly polluted dumpster.

  21. billsin20xx - Apr 24, 2013 at 7:21 AM

The big question is when is the league going to wise up and outlaw the weapon itself, the hard shelled elbow pad? That is the real culprit on most of these concussion hits.

  22. kingsforever - Apr 24, 2013 at 7:29 AM

Welcome ti the Big Boy leagues. Leave your tissues and tampons outside please.

  23. ihatethejets23 - Apr 24, 2013 at 9:11 AM

If Patrick Kaleta can get 5 games when Brad Richards dives into the boards, Dustin Brown should be banned for the rest of the season for what he did.

  24. thehighcountrybear - Apr 24, 2013 at 5:18 PM

bethgoesglobal: the term was ‘driest’ rather than ‘dirtiest’…

The comments were made in effort to prove anyone can sling abuse, nothing more.
