Welcome to the AHL, Iowa Wild

Iowa Wild

That there is the new logo for the AHL’s Iowa Wild, who will play at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines starting next season.

The Iowa Wild will be, as you may have already surmised, Minnesota’s minor-league affiliate.

“Des Moines is an excellent sports market. Wild fan support is excellent not just in the State of Hockey but throughout the Upper Midwest, including Iowa,” said Wild owner Craig Leipold in a release. “We know fans in Des Moines will enjoy watching tomorrow’s Minnesota Wild stars. Our team will be entrenched in this community, particularly in youth hockey.”

Des Moines had an AHL team from 2005-2009 when the Stars/Chops played at Wells Fargo Arena.

I like seeing more of Minnesota’s third-jersey look in this. Not a fan of the red-yellow-green/red-yellow-blue thing teams try to pull off.

Their 3rd jersey is perhaps my favorite in the NHL.

Anyone remember the Devils Red, Green and White jerseys? What a disaster. Wild home jerseys are comparable (almost) , but their 3rd jerseys are by far the best in the NHL. I was gonna buy one until YOU KNOW WHO joined the team, and left us with the crap we have now.

You know you’re getting a serious demotion when you’re sent to Iowa

Lots of good junior hockey in Iowa. I hope the Big Ten gets Iowa (and Nebraska) rolling with hockey.

The Wild are lucky to be coming to Iowa.
We are a great state. Obviously hockeyflow33 doesn’t know Iowa.

Ugh, I get it, Iowa is great, Nebraska is great, etc….

Iowa also had the Quad City Flames…Calgary’s AHL team.

Iowa and Wild are not really two words I associate with each other.

    Just sayin’.

The Flames were technically in Illinois, like the Quad City Mallards are today.

Kiss604…you’re right. I live in iowa and go to the games….the iwireless center is literally the first exit just off the bridge from iowa into Illinois. :)

I remember being shown the upcoming schedule of local sports from one of the local papers. It had Calgary games in the schedule–but not Blackhawk games.

Well, they built it. I guess they’ll now have to see if people will come. Maybe have the players walk through a cornfield or something.

Is it Iowa Wild, or Wild Iowa? I am confused.

It’s just unfortunate that they inflicted that league-worst nickname on their minor league team too.
