Beleskey, Stempniak highlight EA’s NHL 14 Cover Vote

Matt Beleskey

Anaheim’s Matt Beleskey and Calgary’s Lee Stempniak are two of the names topping this year’s list of players for EA Sports’ NHL ’14 cover vote.

The voting process became a huge success last year — the first time Electronic Arts held a balloting process — as over 25 million votes were cast, with Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux capturing the coveted honor.

“This is another tremendous opportunity for our fans to once again show their support for their team and selected players by voting in this second installment of the EA Sports NHL Cover Vote Campaign,” said Dave McCarthy, NHL Vice President Consumer Products Marketing. “We look forward to our fans’ creativity and incomparable passion in driving another record setting vote count and ultimately determining who will grace the cover of NHL 14 worldwide.”

The voting process will consist of two preliminary rounds, followed by a 16-player bracket as a field of 60 NHL players is narrowed down to one. The winning player will be revealed as the EA SPORTS NHL 14 Cover Athlete during the 2013 Stanley Cup Final.

Here’s the full list of 60 players:

How did they come up with some of these names haha

    • JoeAvg - Apr 22, 2013 at 3:51 PM

I think the teams submit them themselves. Obviously, it’s not taken too seriously – Brandon Yip?

Yeah I was gonna say, if EA was deciding on the names they really missed the mark with some teams..

I dunno, I gotta say out of everyone on this list, Subban had the most impressive year in my opinion (as a Sabres fan).

Give it to poor Thomas Vanek. He’s been through a lot

    • coronakid76 - Apr 22, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Cause he cries all the time he is on the ice. He is the last person that deserves to be on the Cover. He has an amazing skill set but his attitude on the ice is what causes him lose any respect outside of his team (as they benefit from his persistent officiating attacks). I’d rather see Letang, Malkin or even head case Fleury then Crosby.

    Why no Crosby?

    • jl9830 - Apr 22, 2013 at 4:41 PM

Because we’ve had enough of that whiny baby being shoved in our faces and want to recognize other players.

  5. slumdog66 - Apr 22, 2013 at 3:38 PM

As a ducks fan, I am completely confused on how players were picked haha.

    • steelpenbucs87 - Apr 22, 2013 at 3:56 PM

Yeah its gotta be the player/team choice.

There are quite a few good headlines on these NBC Sports sites, but this, this is one of the best…

  7. slumdog66 - Apr 22, 2013 at 4:55 PM

It’s funny how people try to justify the best player in the world( Crosby, for the ignorant) not deserving to be on the cover just because he isn’t on your team. GO DUCKS!

    Lee Stempniak? Too funny.

Based on this year it has to be Tavares.

    • travishenryskid - Apr 22, 2013 at 9:05 PM

He’s probably been Calgary’s best forward this year. Just sayin.

      • 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 22, 2013 at 10:11 PM

That’s not saying much. Also, as a Leafs fan it’s pretty funny to see that he’s relevant.
