Video: Brian Campbell’s campy campaign to be NHL 14’s cover star

Apr 21, 2013, 8:22 PM EDT

Whether it’s the Florida Panthers’ doing or the work of EA Sports, Brian Campbell‘s campaign-style video to be NHL 14’s cover star sports a desirable mixture of cheese and genuine laughs:

There’s plenty of good/cringe-inducing stuff in that video (the “Mmm … mmm … good” bit infringes on taste, if not copyrights), but the attacks on Kris Versteeg could use some tweaking.

While the karaoke clip begs for a full treatment, golden opportunities were missed to mock Versteeg in more meaningful ways.

Specifically, he should probably be teased for his hair from last season:

Or his fantastic handlebar mustache from 2013:

Honestly, “Soupy” might need to pull out a few extra spin-o-ramas to beat that ‘stache and the Hulk Hogan hair.

I’m probably bias , but the cover should either be fleury , Bobrovsky , ovechkin , or niemi

Campbell and Versteeg are both quite the characters. Doubt either would get on the cover over the typical fan-favourites, but nothing wrong with a bit of added humour.

I wanna see a brother on the cover!

Vote Wayne Simmonds and put an end to the stereotypes.

the only way to end racism is to stop talking about it. There was no stereotypes mentioned here until you brought it up.

If you’re going to play the race card, at least choose a player that is more than a solid player on an underperforming sub par team. PK Subban, superstar on an over performing playoff bound team.

so… you mean like Iginla on NHL 03? oh ok…

Sorry Brian. As much as I loved you when you were in Chicago, you have no chance. EA and the NHL want young superstars. Not older veterans playing for a non playoff team with annually poor attendance. If I had a vote, I would bet good money on PK Subban or John Tavares….and I am in no way a fan of either player nor the team itself.

I would leave it up to those two as well. Both are having STELLAR seasons. I’d throw Getzlaf into the mix as well. Towes and Kane have been on it already. Ovie has. Crosby has not (which suprises me) so I’m for giving it to someone new.
