Report: No discipline for Okposo after hit on Bogosian (video)

Apr 21, 2013, 3:19 PM EST

Yesterday’s thrilling game between Winnipeg and the New York Islanders that saw the Isles win 5-4 in a shootout. It also saw a questionable hit delivered by Isles forward Kyle Okposo to Jets defenseman Zach Bogosian.

Okposo hit Bogosian up high, putting Bogosian down on the ice for a few moments with no penalty called on the play. Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press reports Brendan Shanahan reviewed the hit and won’t discipline Okposo.

With the video we’ve found of the play, good luck determining what exactly happened. Lawless compared the hit to the one delivered by Montreal’s Ryan White on Philly’s Kent Huskins that earned White a five-game suspension. What do you make of it?

Lawless sounds like a total homer. Note that Butch Goring saw it and said it looked fine to him. Butch is the Islander’s color guy, but I have found he is generally right on with these things. I would also note that Kyle Okposo is NOT a dirty player. In fact, he has been chided by many fans for not having enough of an edge to his game. I also thought that Tangradi put a hit on Hickey right after the questionable penalty on Lubo that led to the game tying goal that should have been called and maybe Shanabanable. At worst, it evened out.

no idea how lawless compares those 2 hits. looks like shoulder to shoulder impact to me with bogosian just being knocked off balance and falling down.

i dont even see any contact to the head unless i’m completely missing something. the view around :30 shows he’s not even near his head.

What a flop. Down one trying to get a power play.

That’s why Bogosian is out with a concussion? Shanny has a double-standard, whatever it is.

what a bunch of women. winnipeg had the stripes in their pockets all night – countless missed offsides, too many men, hits from behind. get over yourselves. the Isles fought through the BS and won – like the better team would.

If you’re a very large defenseman and you can’t stop yourself from getting wrecked by Kyle Okposo, something has gone horribly awry.

Ohh ok but its ok to slam Nielsen from behind face first into the boards and theres no call. Wheres the article about that hit that cause all this? Typical NHL … we put together a winner and goons Eff it up for us by injuring our guys and theres never a damn call not even a minor! Turgeon, Peca … list goes on and on
