Columbus’ Umberger: ‘We feel like it’s our destiny to make the playoffs’

The Columbus Blue Jackets’ startling run to the playoffs has shocked many, but they still have a way to go. Forward R.J. Umberger seems pretty convinced that they’ll make the postseason – and maybe even steal the seventh spot while they’re at it.

He provided some bold words to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.

“Yeah, this is definitely for real. We’re not just trying to get the eight spot, we want to get as high as we can get,” Umberger said. We’re a very confident team. Everyone in here believes. We feel like it’s our destiny to make the playoffs.”

Like his team, Umberger has had a flair for the dramatic. He only has a goal and an assist in his last 11 games, but both of those points came at key times for a team that’s often winning by a slim margin of error.

One might say that’s exactly the type of training that a team needs to win when things really tighten up in the playoffs …

Good for him, and his team, but “destiny” has nothing to do with it. Hard work and a little luck, maybe, but that destiny crap is way over-rated.

How about the Howson curse was lifted? He was with CBJ, and they’re out. He leaves, they’re in. Edmonton – Howson is out, they’re in a playoff spot. Howson in, and they go on a losing streak to knock themselves out of a playoff spot.

Best thing to happen to the Jackets… was trading Nash.

Proves again… you can’t build a winner around 1 player. Superstars guarantee nothing.

    Feelings, nothing more than feelings
Trying to forget years of feeling like a dope

Teardrops rolling down on my face
Trying to forget feelings of unrequited hope

Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it
I wish I’ve never heard of the playoffs

    They’ll never come, never come
    Feeling, woo-o-o feeling

Woo-o-o, feel the Cup in my arms
Feelings, feelings like I’ve never held you

And feelings like I’ll never have you in my hands

Ray2013…Considering Howson put this team together you may want to rethink your opinion.
