Video: Pavelec makes incredible stick save

Apr 19, 2013, 9:55 AM EDT

The Winnipeg Jets have now won five straight games and goaltender Ondrej Pavelec deserves his fair share of the credit for Thursday’s 4-3 overtime victory against Carolina.

Although he wasn’t statistically impressive — he stopped 24 of 27 shots — he came up with some big saves, including one that might be a save of the season candidate:

“That was a game-saver when you look back on it,” Jets captain Andrew Ladd said, according to the Winnipeg Sun. “He seems to make one or two of those every year.

“We don’t want to put him in that position, but to have him there to bail us out with an unbelievable save is something you need when you’re trying to win games. He was amazing.”

With Thursday’s win, the Jets are now tied with the eighth place New York Rangers in terms of points. However, the Rangers have a game in hand over the Jets.

Bruins fan here. Glad to see the Jets making waves. Winnipeg seems to be a proud fan base and deserve to be in the hunt.

It’s all the more fun when their talent on the ice speaks to their standing as well.

His stats may not be great but he’s often the best player on the ice for the Jets. He has to be, the way the D hangs him out to dry. That may be more of a product of Noel’s coaching though. There’s no reason why your own d-men should be on the forecheck and leaving the back end wide open. That’s what you have forwards for.
