Flyers announce that Kent Huskins is out with a concussion

Apr 15, 2013, 8:45 PM EDT

Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren announced that defenseman Kent Huskins suffered a concussion from a controversial Ryan White hit and won’t return on Monday.

Take another look at the check, via

The NHL seems to base its disciplinary decisions at least partially on how injured the recipient of a questionable hit ends up, so this news is bad for White along with Huskins.

Injuries have hit the Flyers pretty hard in 2013, particularly on the blueline. In the likely event that Huskins remains on the shelf longer than Monday, he’ll join injured defensemen Marc-Andre Bourdon, Braydon Coburn, Andrej Meszaros, Nicklas Grossmann and Chris Pronger.

Huskins was in the middle of his eighth game for the Flyers. The 33-year-old blueliner was traded to Philly from the Detroit Red Wings on March 30.

This is a shame because Huskins has been a very steady presence since he joined the club. And the Flyers essentially played almost two periods with 4 dmen bc of this hit. And because Lauridsen can’t seem to stop taking penalties they were down to 3 on several PKs. It’s amazing they hold a 6-3 lead after 2. But that headhunting hit was disgusting. These types of hits have no place in hockey. Just senseless. There better be a suspension, but I have no faith in Shanahan.

man, Flyers continue their goal to have a full (and pretty damn good) team on IR.
