Crosby resumes skating, still no timetable for return

Apr 15, 2013, 10:42 AM EDT

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby skated with injured teammates James Neal and Paul Martin prior to practice on Monday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

According to the PG, it’s believed to be the first time Crosby’s skated since suffering a broken jaw on Mar. 30. The 25-year-old has missed Pittsburgh’s last six games with the injury.

Here’s video of Crosby skating, courtesy the Post-Gazette:

It appeared as though No. 87 was wearing a full plastic shield to protect his jaw, something (we assume) he could be wearing upon his return to action.

As for Neal and Martin, they too participated in the skate, with Martin staying out extra with conditioning coach Mike Kadar.

Neal has missed the last three games with a concussion, while Martin has been out since Mar. 28 with a broken bone in his hand/wrist.

mtl and boston this week with a 7pt lead in the east. will be fun to watch. my guess crosby will play the last game of the year against carolina and that would be 4 weeks roughly for recovery time and probably enough practice for him to be ready for the playoffs.

Uh Oh sounds like trouble!!! Can’t wait to see what this team looks like if/when everyone is healthy. I’m not saying the Pens have already won the cup or a lock to win the caup because the playoffs are very unpredictable. The only thing I can say is that it is really hard to think of a team that can win 4 out 7 games vs a healthy Pens team.
Hell I have trouble coming with a team that could 4 out of 20 vs a healthy Pens team.

Any word on Neal, possible return soon?

The fact that Neal is skating is actually a bigger deal than Sid, seeing as he said he was looking to skate this week. A broken bone is a broken bone, but who knows with a concussion.

I can’t imagine that they would let Neal skate if he was still having symptoms. And if he’s not having symptoms, I would guess he’ll be back at some point this week – not like he’s missed a ton of time.

But I thought Howard Eskin said it wasn’t looking good for Crosby. What do I believe anymore.

PS. Please read with extreme sarcasm.
