Video: Chicago avoids injury scare as Backes roughs up Toews

Apr 14, 2013, 2:29 PM EDT

Chicago Blackhawks fans got a bit of a scare during the first period of today’s game in St. Louis.

Blues captain David Backes and Hawks captain Jonathan Toews were busy getting physical with each other but Toews took the brunt of the action as he left the ice to get treated after this rough hit along the boards.

Toews hobbled off to the locker room for treatment mid-period but did return to action to start the second. Chicago might be the “Windy City” now thanks to a huge sigh of relief.

Blues strategy back fired today. Idiots like Backes have no chance hanging in there against skill players. Today was a clear example. Love it

Backes is a clown. He and Bickell were exchanging verbal jabs early in the game and Backes chirped something along the lines of “Do you even play?” to the third liner Bickell.

Bickell responds by scoring the GWG (He has nearly twice as many as Captain 4.5 Million) and generated consistent pressure all night. Backes disappeared after his attempts to take out Toews didn’t go as planned.

    Funny how that works.

Yep…St. Louis thugs went goony for a period….couldn’t keep it up any longer….they just melted away after that ….

Yep Backes should have did a spinless Duncan Keith on Toews. Now that would have been priceless.

Hey he rooted for Raffi Torres. He knows all about class.

Goodbye Blues, they are fading fast. Elliot was exposed again today for the below average backstopper he is.

As a fellow Hawks fan, I respectfully disagree. Of course I’m glad Chicago came out on top, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say Elliot is a “below average backstopper.” While he’s probably not as strong as Halak, I’d be happy to have Elliot as a back-up on my team. He proved himelf last year and has had another solid season despite a short rough stretch this year. I also wouldn’t say “goodbye” to STL just yet. They’ll make the playoffs this year and would be a tough physical match-up I’d rather avoid if if possible.

Bickell to Backes: I have almost double the amount of goals then you, also I have a ring sitting at home. Boom
