Apr 12, 2013, 3:05 AM EDT

The L.A. Kings needed Anze Kopitar to score in the shootout to defeat the Colorado Avalanche, and, with a nifty display of touch, he managed to beat Jean-Sebastien Giguere with a backhand five-hole.

The Kings, who took a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals less than two minutes apart in the first period, beat the reeling Avalanche 3-2 in the skills competition. The Kings jump ahead of the Sharks into fourth in the Western Conference standings with a 23-14-4 record and 50 points.
