Video: Evander Kane shows off speed

Apr 12, 2013, 9:04 AM EST

Evander Kane and the Winnipeg Jets overwhelmed Florida Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom on Thursday.

Midway through the second period, Kane chased a puck halfway across the ice, scooped it up as it bounced off the boards and then shot it around a diving Markstrom for his second goal of the night.

You can see the entire sequence below:

That finished Jacob Markstrom’s night.

The 23-year-old goaltender has now allowed 10 goals in his last two starts as the Panthers limp towards the finish line. Meanwhile the Winnipeg Jets have won three straight games as they battle simultaneously for a playoff spot and, more ideal, the Southeast Division title.

Even for the Southleast, Florida is BAAAAAD. Go Jets GO!

So I’m not really seeing the speed here. Don’t get me wrong, Evander is great, but the real focal point on this play is Gudbranson’s horrific defense. The guy misreads the speed of the puck and the angle of the bounce, takes an aggressive route, gets burned, and falls down while trying to recover.

It’s almost as bad as Markstrom doing his impression of a manatee and allowing Kane the easy tap-in.

Agree…that is a terrible read by Gudbranson.

Maybe it would have turned out different if the FLA combo there was Ballard/Luongo instead of Gudbranson/Markstrom?

If this guy can get his attitude in check, he will be crazy good for the next 10 years at least. Hopefully he has a good head on his shoulders and matures in the near future.

Then he got into a fight with his shadow and obviously missed every punch!
