Video: Devils and Senators get feisty

Apr 12, 2013, 9:53 PM EDT

This was a bit of a chaotic sequence between the Ottawa Senators and New Jersey Devils.

The Senators won the game 2-0, but it was a shift in the second period that stirred up attention. The video highlights a fight between New Jersey’s David Clarkson and Ottawa’s Zack Smith behind the net, following a massive hit from Smith on Clarkson.

The video also shows a replay of Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson butt-ending Adam Henrique just before the fight.

Not a chance. Delayed reaction and a huge sell job by Henrique. Had the refs caught it, it would have been a two minute minor at most. Player Safety will see 20 plays tonight worse than that…

Delayed reaction? You do realize it’s in slow motion?
I’m not saying he was injured or anything but it’s a dirty play. I agree with you, no chance he gets suspended but it should have been a penalty.

There were a lot in this game and in many others that the refs are blowing a ton of calls . Something needs to be done about it. How can you justify calling a hook to the hands of a puck carrier that doesn’t even slow the play down but not call a full on yank of someone’s feet right out from underneath them while reaching for the puck . All of that while the ref is in the picture shot watching the whole thing and not calling it. With regards to the Anderson incident , no targeted contact of the head with your stick should tolerated …. AT ALL !!

Apparently a butt end to the visor causes your legs to give out.

You must be blind, because he doesn’t hit his visor at all… hits him right on the upper part of the chin strap.

Even if you think there was a sell job, or if you think it hit him in the visor… its still an intentional butt end to the face/head, which is a very dangerous play. While I would be utterly shocked to see a suspension come for this, don’t be suprised if Anderson gets fined.

It hit him in the face not the visor. It was a dirty play. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a complete idiot.

It’s probably for the best that the Devils didn’t get a powerplay..they never would have scored. The greatest trick the Devils ever played..was convincing the world they were a decent hockey team.

Right, they didn’t just come of a season that sent them to their 5th SCF and 2 wins shy of a 4th cup, all in the last 17 years. Do you even watch hockey?
