Apr 11, 2013, 11:03 PM EDT

Philadelphia Flyers’ goalie Ilya Bryzgalov spoke out Thursday night, denying reports he fell asleep during a team meeting.

Snippets of the conversation Bryzgalov had with reporters began pouring out on Twitter following the Flyers’ 3-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators. By the way, Bryzgalov made 31 saves in the loss.

Really? Do we really have to keep hearing about this when there are better stories about playoff races? I just dont understand who picks these stories sometimes.

    • ibieiniid - Apr 12, 2013 at 9:02 AM

don’t worry, CSN Philly (owned by NBC) has a show called Philly Sports Talk. won’t be long til there’s actually a Philly Hockey Talk website.

I agree with you BUT you make this comment on almost every article not related to the Isles. There’s a soap opera going on Philly around a sinking team and its temperamental netminder, and journalists will never miss a chance to capitalize on a story like that. These are the types of posts that get responses. There’s still plenty of articles on the playoff race. Don’t click if you don’t want to read.

      • ibieiniid - Apr 12, 2013 at 1:39 PM

not to mention, Bryz could be his team’s next (possibly backup) goalie. not saying that it’s likely NYI or not…. but if the Flyers buy him out, he’s going SOMEWHERE for less money.

  2. pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 11, 2013 at 11:16 PM

I think Vince McMahon should sign Bryzgalov to a contract. Would relieve the Flyers of this soap opera.

What a great picture that is…looks like a confused animal in a zoo wondering what the camera is

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 12, 2013 at 6:01 AM

Isn’t this how you get a number one pick like the Penguins by just being really bad ?

      • whammy71 - Apr 12, 2013 at 12:40 PM

it helps to have a top 5 all-time player as your owner…..then the commish fixes the ping-pong balls in your favor! WHAMMY!

      • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 12, 2013 at 5:10 PM

I would put him 7th behind

        Mark Messier
        Gordie Howe
        Ron Francis
        Marcel Dionne
        Steve Yzerman

  4. isithockeyseasonyet - Apr 11, 2013 at 11:28 PM

Anyone else thinks Steve mason starts majority of remaining games?

    • jimw81 - Apr 11, 2013 at 11:38 PM

i think Lavy already said Bryz is starting saturday.

      • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 12, 2013 at 10:01 AM

This makes no sense to me. Everyone already knows what we have in Bryz, so why not start Mason the rest of the way? I thought he did a great job against the Isles (especially considering his own dmen were putting the puck behind him). Is this management trying to give Bryz a vote of confidence? The dude is a distraction, and you NEED to know if Mason can handle the job next season. Give the kid the starts!

  5. canucks30 - Apr 11, 2013 at 11:40 PM

Why does he heff to be so mad?

  6. canucks30 - Apr 11, 2013 at 11:40 PM

    It’s only game

  7. rwbart1 - Apr 11, 2013 at 11:46 PM

Can’t blame the guy, he rarely has a night off….

  8. jaker85 - Apr 12, 2013 at 12:17 AM

My sources tell me he banged Scott Hartnell’s wife.

  9. mj1818 - Apr 12, 2013 at 12:31 AM

These guys are in absolute shambles

  10. flyers22 - Apr 12, 2013 at 2:06 AM

As he should the media in this city is horrible honestly idk why some of these clowns have jobs bryz has played fine this year for the most part he’s given the team a chance to win almost every night he’s the last person I would worry about sleeping at a meeting anyway with how the team has looked this year at this point tank the season get a high draft pick a young defenseman and get ready to go for next year. With the talent and youth on this team they can be back in the playoffs next year no doubt

    • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 12, 2013 at 10:09 AM

I agree but can you really trust this guy to come up with a stellar effort in a crucial game 7? You’re right, blame for this terrible season cannot be placed solely on Bryz, but that also doesn’t mean he’s the right goaltender for this franchise. He needs to go to a market where the spotlight doesn’t shine so brightly on him. Phoenix was perfect, Philly is not. As soon as anyone questions him he falls out of his element. He’s just not mentally tough.

      • flyers22 - Apr 12, 2013 at 12:05 PM

I agree which is why I think we should see what we have in mason because he’s still 24 and can turn his career around very quickly but no goalie is going to play well in this city without A good defense In front of him and I think the organization has finally come to realize our d needs a lot of work I have faith holmgren can fix this in a summer he’s done it before and is a good gm.

    • President Charles Logan - Apr 12, 2013 at 11:53 AM

***facepalm*…. did I just read this right?? did you say yet again Bryz has played fine this season?

wow … you really havent watched too much hockey this year …. get some help dude.

      • flyers22 - Apr 12, 2013 at 12:09 PM

Yes I did and if you actually watched the flyers and hockey in general you would know that maybe if you understood the game and actually watched the flyers and weren’t on this website talking sh*t over a computer you would see that too

    • President Charles Logan - Apr 12, 2013 at 12:24 PM

Ive watched plenty of hockey in my life I can reassure you that , but if you think for a second that this clown bryzgalov has been anything short of bad then you’re obviously the one who doesnt know the game very well.

      • flyers22 - Apr 12, 2013 at 4:34 PM

Your a retard lol I’m not wasting my time commenting to someone who clearly knows nothing and doesn’t watch the flyers games. Please prove to me how he has been horrible this year show me and the rest of these commenters proof because you have none he can’t be at fault for any games this season has he let in a few soft goals ? Yes but what goalie hasn’t the problem is we don’t have a defense and haven’t been consistent the entire season

    • President Charles Logan - Apr 12, 2013 at 6:12 PM

lol you’re in a small minority of posters on this website that actually think this clown is a good goalie. go back top playing video games kid .

      • chicagobtech - Apr 12, 2013 at 7:06 PM

Bryzgalov’s save percentage in the NHL was never lower than it is right now, and his GAA is the second worst. He’s in the bottom third in the League in both of those stats. He’s not what I would consider good (top third), not by a long shot.

      • flyers22 - Apr 12, 2013 at 7:49 PM

Haha right dude maybe because I actually have a life and don’t post on here 24/7 like u do I’m not saying bryz is the best goalie in the league not even top 5 I’m just saying he isn’t the problem and has been fine this year and has done plenty to give this team a chance to win every night he isn’t the problem with the flyers.

      • President Charles Logan - Apr 12, 2013 at 8:36 PM

lol , i thought you were done “wasting your time on this “retard” … dude? … lol you seem to be posting just as much as I do, you’re life is probably video games, doritos, and the pc, who the heck are you kidding ..loser

  11. gibbskins9 - Apr 12, 2013 at 5:11 AM

Does it really matter, everyone else fell a sleep on the ice. For years Philly fans, myself included screamed for a top notch goaltender, now sign a few quality defenseman.

  12. whammy71 - Apr 12, 2013 at 6:00 AM

    Sleeping Bear…..whammy!

    Band of misfit gingers….whammy!

    Another loss….whammy!

WHAMMY, WHAMMY, WHAMMY……boy, you DBs make it easy. Better call for your tee times soon. The course opens April 28th! oh, and that’s another whammy!

  13. 2qswing - Apr 12, 2013 at 8:36 AM

Every Flyer highlight is an odd man rush against or breakaway. They must lead the league in both categories. Worst job in hockey …. Flyer goaltender.

  14. 2qswing - Apr 12, 2013 at 8:40 AM

The only Flyers falling asleep are their entire D corp. Usually between the hours of 7 and 10pm every game night

  15. mclovinhockey - Apr 12, 2013 at 9:22 AM

Flyers fans all year have been saying “Bryz is fatigue”, he yawned and people flip out that he is tiered from playing all but 3 games.

The flyers need new D, end of story. It’s not like any of the other 3 goalies did better than Bryz. In fact in the 3 games he didn’t play in we have up 5,4 and 4. That’s pretty bad. Bryz GAA is around 3.

  16. bobhpine - Apr 12, 2013 at 9:24 AM

Please lord, don’t ever let Bryzgalov leave Philadelphia. We humans, enjoy the laughter it brings us.

    Thank you lord.

  17. thehighcountrybear - Apr 12, 2013 at 9:30 AM

    More like Rips van Winkle!

More to the point, team insiders are asking why Bryz was listening to replay of a Canucks broadcast during the team meeting…a sure antidote for insomnia by any physician’s standard!

  18. sportsfaninyyc - Apr 12, 2013 at 10:40 AM

Gonna be nice not having the Flyers in the playoffs!

  19. sidgenotanger2944 - Apr 12, 2013 at 10:41 AM

I think the whole philty cryers team has been sleeping during the meetings!!! 38yrs and counting!!! GO PENS!!!!

  20. kantnockdahustle89 - Apr 12, 2013 at 11:48 AM

Maybe he doesnt sleep during meetings guys. He only sleeps during games:

  21. President Charles Logan - Apr 12, 2013 at 11:51 AM

This just goes to show how mis-managed this organization has been for years now, just the fact that that this guy is still getting starts in goal is baffling beyond comprehension .

  22. whammy71 - Apr 12, 2013 at 12:39 PM

    where’s PhillyPhalicSymbol????? where’s EaglesSuckBalls????? where’s BroadStreetMeatBeater?????

the season’s not over boys…..where yinz at?

You guys pound your chest about following your team through thick and thin. Yinz are still on life support n’at…..and yinz ain’t no where to be found.

Oh – and the MVP may be waking from his slumber… to be the rest of the NHL!

    • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 13, 2013 at 11:51 AM

If you were literate you’d be able to read that I commented 3 times above. I would never follow the example set by half the city of Pittsburgh and desert my team when they need the most support. And I wouldn’t call rooting for my team “pounding my chest”, I’d classify what you’re doing more in that category. So keep patting yourself on the back for another season where the Pens are crowned champions in April. The Presidents trophy isn’t the ultimate prize, eventhough Pens fans seem to think it is. We’ll see how much talking you do when the Penguins fall well short of the crushing expectations, AGAIN. The Flyers will bounce back, no doubt about it.

Reblogged this on Evening the Score.

  24. girouxvy - Apr 12, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Ryan Miller along with several other Philly journalists totally suck. No, this is not news worthy. But yet, these hockey beat writers are treating it that way, as if the fans want to read this nonsense. I’m with Bryzzy on this one. Do your jobs better, sports reporter guys! Get off his back.

    • hosewater2 - Apr 12, 2013 at 4:17 PM

Exactly. The writers/bloggers take every chance they can to inject themselves into the conversation. You folks are just fingers on keyboards, good on Ilya to take this opportunity to remind you of that.
