Hitchcock on injured Halak: 2-3 weeks before ‘we know what’s going on’

It’s a good thing for the Blues that Brian Elliott is starting to play like 2011-12 Brian Elliott, because it doesn’t sound like Jaroslav Halak (groin) is guaranteed to be ready for the playoffs.

“Not skating, not practicing, so probably two or three weeks before we know what’s going on,” St. Louis head coach Ken Hitchcock said of Halak today, per NHL.com’s Dan Rosen.

The playoffs are scheduled to start April 30.

Halak, 27, was also injured (ankle) for much of last year’s postseason, leaving the goaltending duties to Elliott.

For now, the Blues will once again have to rely on Elliott, with rookie Jake Allen in the backup role.

I bet the Blues wish they made a play for Miller now

Not sure Miller would’ve been the solution. That being said I think as long as the team plays as well as they have recently I think we’re a lock for the playoffs. Our schedule is pretty good and we’re in decent position now.

That being said, I believe Halak will be missed in the playoffs if he can’t come back by then. Last year Elliot fell to pieces in the post season against LA. Either he or Allen will have to step up huge if the Blues want to make any kind of run.

I’m willing to put my money on the tandem of Elliot and Jake Allen being an asset rather than a liability.
