Injured Penguins defenseman Kris Letang (broken toe) skated by himself today in Pittsburgh and appears close to returning to the lineup.

Letang will miss his fifth straight game tonight against the Rangers, but Tribune-Review reporter Josh Yohe expects him to play Tuesday in Carolina.

The Penguins have missed the 25-year-old Norris Trophy candidate. In its last two games, both losses, Pittsburgh has been outscored 10-2.

The Pens are also without injured defenseman Paul Martin (wrist), forcing the likes of Deryk Engelland, Simon Despres and Robert Bortuzzo into bigger roles.

Definitely miss the guy, but still first in East so I hope they don’t rush him –

    Orpik – Despres
Murray – Eaton (or Niskanen – but he hasn’t been all that offensively minded)
    Niskanen – Bortuzzo

Anyone got a better idea? Engo’s not played well at all…

      I like
      Orpik – Eaton
      Murray – Niskanen
      Engelland – Despres

Please no Bortuzzo…he sucks. He is slow, consistently gets beat and seems to have issues with the puck on his stick…I was really hoping he would get traded for something at the deadline.

Couldn’t disagree more wit your assessment of Bortuzzo. His positioning has been solid and while I agree he’s a liability with the puck on his stick, he doesn’t need to have a puck on his stick if you pair him with someone effectively.

Orpik – Despres (mini Letang – time for him to start playing like it)
        Murray – Eaton
        Despres – Bortuzzo

Engalland has been GOD AWFUL. Sit him

bortuzzo hasnt done anything to merit that kind of criticism. he has been very good all things considered. i would definitely not want to see murray with eaton…that would probably be the slowest pairing in the nhl. gotta mix the slow guys like murray or eaton with skaters like niskanen or despres.

The announcers on ROOT sports are horrible

Mike Lange should still be doing the tv. Steigie is super annoying but the flyers guy, says “winds and fires” like 30 times per game. Not that it matters I almost am never at home to watch live, I’m listening to Lange and the old 29er on the Internet right now.

Your wrong the flyers guy says ” winds and fires he missed the net” 60 times per game hahahahah!

Here we go with one of our top notch gamechangers returning

  3. steeljaw87 - Apr 5, 2013 at 1:42 PM

Well it’s probably time to rename the Norris trophy and start calling it the LeTang

    • eigglesnosuperbowls - Apr 5, 2013 at 7:29 PM

      LeNot !

This would be a huge boost. Without him, the transition game sputters – has every time he’s been out the last couple of years; with out him and Martin, it’s ground to a screeching halt. Nobody is really mentioning the the Pens just can’t score anymore without the those two and Sid. Getting even one of them back would help worlds.

Not to mention his impact to the PP.

When he retires they should name a new position after players like Letang. So in that category we have Letang and that’s about it. Not that crybaby wanna be on the senators. Not that big Adrian Brody nose on the teddy bears.

I like Samuelsson (Ulf) – Murphy
    Samuelsson (Kjell) – Taglianetti
    Roberts – Paek

I always watch the non ROOT Sports feed with Pens games. How can anyone listen to those guys?

  8. jaybaileys - Apr 5, 2013 at 8:54 PM

Guys, Letang is a very gifted offensive defenseman. But I don’t see him as a Norris candidate. He may lead the league in pts. For defenseman but that has nothing to do with his playing is own zone which could be better. His skating gets him out of a ton of dumb plays. He pinches too much and gives the puck away too much for me. That said he is a stud for us, but I really don’t think he should be mentioned in the top 3 in the NHL defenseman.

Since there’s nowhere else to post this I’ll post it here… watching the Pens-Rangers game and I just have to say that glove save Fleury had on Stepan is one of the best saves I’ve ever seen. Fleury can be inconsistent sometimes but his post to post speed is unmatched. Hate the Pens but wow.
