Agent: No concussion worries for Crosby

Apr 4, 2013, 4:52 PM EDT

Despite one report to the contrary, Sidney Crosby‘s agent, Pat Brisson, wants everyone to know that his client has no concussion worries.

Crosby is currently out of the Pittsburgh lineup with a broken jaw, but the Penguins expect their captain to be back for the playoffs.

Shelly Anderson is a Pens beat writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Josh Yohe covers the team for the Tribune-Review:

The Penguins will try to halt a two-game losing streak Friday at home to the Rangers.

    Good news

    • hockeywithdrawal - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:00 PM

      For Pittsburgh, anyway!

      • JoeAvg - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:38 PM

For any emotionally stable person who cares about the sport.

  2. steelpenbucs87 - Apr 4, 2013 at 4:59 PM

In a situation like this, do you think this is a result of miscommunication/misinterpretation or an active attempt to mislead? Now I’m not accusing Eskin here, I have to imagine that he has a source for what he’s hearing. I just wonder what the motives of the source are.

Either way glad to hear Sid’s noggin is alright (jaw not withstanding). Eastern Conference playoffs are going to be AWESOME.

    • hockeywithdrawal - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Eskin is a Philly writer, right?

      • hockeywithdrawal - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:03 PM

And actually, in reading the response tweets, not a very respected one.

      • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:11 PM

He’s a radio personality that most people hate. He’s more of an insider for the Eagles, atleast when Reid was there, than he is for any other team. Who knows where he got that news but believe me he’s not highly respected in Philly.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Apr 5, 2013 at 8:12 AM

Yeah I got that from the replies to his tweet…ouch!

      • JoeAvg - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:42 PM

@ phillyphanatic77 That expains it. Radio talkshow hosts are about ratings. I can’t stand those things.

      • sizzle299 - Apr 4, 2013 at 8:07 PM

I will agree he’s not an authority for the Flyers, but he’s got reputable connections and is not known for making statements like this without backup. He is respected…. just not very well liked because of his personality. I doubt he made this up, but he also has a responsibility not to spread information recklessly.

      • hockeywithdrawal - Apr 5, 2013 at 8:14 AM

Yeah…he was actually at the Pens practice visiting the team (not participating, of course) while this was tweeted. It’s one thing to do the research and write something, but to hear a rumor from your “reputable connections” and post it, especially when in your own words he’s not well liked (so people might just be playing with him) is silly journalism. Pittsburgh has some of those too.

  3. pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:01 PM

I love how some assclown out of Philly named Howard Erskin decides to report a bogus report. Oh I love!! What more could you expect coming from Eastern Pennsylvania trash. I guess twitter is now a *LEGIT* source apparently since some people actually believe that toolbag. I guess Philly needs something to talk about since the Flyers have been crappy this year.

…Oh and this just in on twitter: Reports I’m getting on Scott Hartnell are not good. I’m told he’s a pre-op transsexual.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:16 PM

Well I’d agree that he’s an assclown, but everything else you’re spewing is total garbage. Do you really get that offended bc a has-been philly radio personality posted something on twitter about the Golden Boy?

      • pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:22 PM

That post on Hartnell was to be a joke considering how people believe all of the crap they see on twitter and facebook nowadays. I read some of the tweets of that clown and I can see that hes not liked like you say but when you ask him where he got his info at…he wont say atleast not yet that is. Its just irritating at how people believe anything they see on twitter and that like I said.

  4. 5hole26 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:09 PM

more trash coming out of that jealous crap hole they call philthy

  5. jimw81 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:16 PM

It sucks to be in crosby position but this was the good old deny today, confirmed tomorrow pr move. Eskin broke the Pronger story and turned out to be true. He won’t throw that on twitter if he had several sources didn’t tell him that.

Eskin does have a good track record breaking stories. It’s sad that Pens Writers dropped the ball on this story and a philly reporter broke the story.

    • jimw81 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:21 PM

FWIW, Eskin nailed Rinaldo’s ankle injury last night

    • sportsfreak13 - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:04 PM

He also said the league was canceling this season 24 hours before the lockout ended. If you don’t believe Crosby, his agent, ray Shero, and ALL the Pittsburgh reporters, then go the pens website and watch the Iginla interview today. He said he saw Crosby today and he looked great. This is one non respected Philly reporter word vs the entire Pittsburgh organization.

    • sportsfreak13 - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:27 PM

Forgot the time he said Bynum wasn’t have knee surgery and that it was just an excuse. Week later he had knee surgery. He also said Reid was going to fired and speculated everyone from chip Kelly to Bruce Arians and even Gus Bradley as his replacement. Yea he has GREAT track record.

  6. sjm1717 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:39 PM

Eskin is a joke…he once got a woman murdered by her husband…true story

  7. sjm1717 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:41 PM

Jimw…so Eskin, despite knowing nothing about hockey, has sources that none of the Pittsburgh or Canadian media have access to?

  8. alexb64 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:45 PM

For the league’s sake I hope this is accurate, however you’ll have to forgive me if I’m skeptical of reports from the Penguins or the Pittsburgh media when it comes to Crosby & concussions.

  9. jdrew506 - Apr 4, 2013 at 5:55 PM

I am not saying that the story is true, but you have to admit that no team tells the truth about injuries this close or during the playoffs. Have seen it for years, teams downplay where and the severity of injuries so they won’t get targeted. Again I am not saying that Crosby has a concussion however it would not surprise if its worse then they are saying.

    • killerpgh - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:12 PM

How can it be worse than they are reporting. So far the Penguins haven’t said much – broken jaw/teeth, jaw not wired shut, no time table for return. The only thing they could be lying about would be the jaw not being wired shut and that would be pretty obvious when he is seen if his mouth opens or not.

      • maalea - Apr 4, 2013 at 10:18 PM

Oh it could be worse if Sid has been concussed.

  10. letsgopens8771 - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:19 PM

It’s okay, no big deal. Jokinen can center Duper and Kunitz until the Playoffs. Thank god though that he does not have a concussion AGAIN.

  11. nicknyhc - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:34 PM

Does anyone else from civilized parts of the country or Canada laugh when inbred trash from Western PA trash talk people from Eastern PA?

  12. tdp1991 - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:39 PM

Even if Sid had a concussion, why would he admit it? A diagnosis would likely end his career. You can’t trust his agent. If he wants to play then lying about his health is the way to go. I want Sid on the ice. As a Flyers fan I admit that Sid is the best and I want my boys to beat him, not beat the pens without him irregardless of his loins…

  13. ml3939 - Apr 4, 2013 at 6:57 PM

As a resident of the Philly area, I would give the Pens another cup if Pittsburgh took Eskin and Missanelli. I don’t care that Andy Ried’s pool boy has gotten a couple of things right in the past, he blows. He is spiteful nothing that is upset that he has no athletic ability.

  14. jaybaileys - Apr 4, 2013 at 7:07 PM

When I lived in Philly Eskin berated his callers to WIP. They were all “dopes” if I remember his favorite word. That and he loved bragging about the Lexus he drove etc. The guy loves to hear himself talk, remember when he was the insider on The Sports Machine? He is trying to break a story. The Flyers have been a trainwreck, and what else can fire their fans up? Negative Pens/Crosby news. The fact that everyone who covers the Pens says he doesn’t have a concussion I guess leads me to believe he doesn’t. Otherwise they or someone at TSN would be saying it. I could be wrong though.

  15. pens5829 - Apr 4, 2013 at 7:10 PM

Howard Eskins? Never heard of him before. My best guess I never will again either.

  16. jpdoc26 - Apr 4, 2013 at 7:10 PM

Eskin is a huge creep. Does anything for attention. WIP, Eskin’s own radio station, thinks he’s a moron and relegated him to part-time work. The guy is a joke – he wears fur coats.

From Wikipedia (which yes, is a 10x more reliable source than the flamboyant Eskin):

“In 1997 Eskin was exposed as the “prominent Philadelphia sportscaster” who had sent a dozen roses to a woman five days before she was murdered by her husband. The woman had posted a fake profile on a dating site, identifying herself as 25-year-old “Brandice”. A note sent with the roses was read during the guilty plea of Raymond Stumpf by his attorney: “Dear Brandice It was absolutely wonderful getting to know you. Hope to get to know you better. You were very thought-provoking and I do love your name. Love, Howard.” Eskin subsequently denied ever meeting with her and said the roses were nothing more than an innocent attempt to brighten a lonely woman’s day.”

Come on Eskin, you just guess at things and hope your right so you can say you broke the news.

    • crashtheboards55 - Apr 4, 2013 at 10:47 PM

Kind of like Mark Madden here in Pittsburgh. Pathetic excuse for a human being. What I wouldn’t give for an asteroid to catch him right in the teeth. It’s funny I have seen more well wishes from Flyers fans for Crosby than from anyone else besides Pens fans. I will admit too, that there are too many “pens fans” that became fans when Crosby got drafted.

  17. csilojohnson - Apr 4, 2013 at 7:13 PM

nicknyc, sounds like you are saying Canada is not civilized. Very ironic coming from the dump you call home.

    • nicknyhc - Apr 4, 2013 at 10:11 PM

Sounds like you need to re-read my comment.

I said civilized parts of the country (as in the other parts of the U.S. that are not PA) AND Canada. Meaning that Canada is more civilized than PA.

  18. csilojohnson - Apr 4, 2013 at 7:16 PM

    Crosby doesnt have a concussion.
Look at his eyes as he is skating off ice. Its not proof, but its enough to make an intelligent guess. A lot more validating then that hack Erskin.

    • dmfc1112 - Apr 4, 2013 at 9:01 PM

really? the eye test?? if that’s your medical opinion tell us how Bergeron looked the other night?

  19. sizzle299 - Apr 4, 2013 at 8:15 PM

This sport is notorious for concealing injuries, it leaves a lot of room for anyone to say anything. Fuel to the fire that the only person saying something is from Philly…Eskin must be confident to stick his neck out like this. Then again, when’s the last time he was relevant?

  20. 5hole26 - Apr 4, 2013 at 8:38 PM

nicknyc, keep the jealousy up guy its ashame your best player in the nhl is clowe. crosby owns you and your irrelevant team

    • nicknyhc - Apr 4, 2013 at 10:13 PM

My irrelevant team that beat your dream team 6-1 last night, ha.

Keep up the arrogance guy. This is why everyone else hates the Pens. We’ll all (as in fans of every other team in the league) will be laughing when Sid is on the golf course in May. He looked like he was having fun on the golf course and at the Kentucky Derby last year when my “irrelevant team” was playing playoff hockey.

  21. gamechanger87 - Apr 4, 2013 at 9:09 PM

Who listens to anything but Satellite radio anyhow? Goes to show u how ancient filly is with their media

  22. fredzky - Apr 4, 2013 at 9:29 PM

If he is suffering from concussion symptoms the last thing he would be doing is going to meet with his teammates. I just got over one that took me out for over a year from any sports and the only place you want to be is in a dark room sleeping. Your eyes can’t focus your head is pounding and everything is moving back and forth not to mention how horrible it is just turning your head to the side. I highly doubt he would be out and about in any sense of the word other than a doctors visit.

    • maalea - Apr 4, 2013 at 10:28 PM

With all due respect to your injury, there are different levels of severity.
